I understand that a diploma from Europe or Australia has a better reputation, but still, many Filipinos in Thailand are working as teachers. That means Thai schools dont have a problem with their diplomas. The Thai government requires teachers to have a TOEFL and a recognized diploma in any field. A Filipino diploma is recognized, so I would meet all the requirements.
Why should I pay for an expensive Australian diploma when I can get a much cheaper one from the Philippines? I believe, in the end, it’s all about English proficiency, not the diploma itself that’s just a formality.
Another thing – why would someone with an excellent background, for example in engineering, want to teach English for a few thousand baht when they can earn a great salary in their home country? I don’t believe there are many white people with Oxford degrees teaching in rural Roi Et.
