  1. I have a Thai motor bike drivers license which through an international agreement was told also acceptable in Indonesia.  Very important to drive in Asia(or anywhere) with valid license for that country.   Besides avoiding occasionally getting into hassle with police, if you get in accident,  health insurance companies can decline to cover you as you are operating vehicle illegally. Example; drunk, stoned or no license.

Also,  with motorcycle ALWAYS wear helmet!  Stories of people getting into horrific accidents, running up huge medical bills and not being able to get evacuated to best medical care because lost med coverage even though fully insured.  They were not wearing helmet.  Driving motorbike is illegal in many countries (eg: Thailand, Indonesia) without protective head gear and therefore health care insurance companies not obligated to cover.

  2. Dear forum, I may be getting soft headed in old age, but I have difficulty on figuring the 1&5 day booking for quarantine and PCR for Thailand TEST AND GO.  Day 1 from official websites clearly indicates day 1 for TEST and GO is day on arrival.

    See paste below:

    • "On Day 1, reservation includes accommodation, RT-PCR test, and airport transfer."
    •

Therefore it seems that if I arrive at phuket international airport on evening, March 2 for TEST and GO, I would book March 6 for 5th day hotel stay for second PCR test and quarantine.   However, when I contacted a SHA plus hotel on Phuket for questions on reservation I received below info I'm pasting:

"New registration for Test and Go and Sandbox Programme must submit a receipt or hotel confirm letter and receipt confirming payment for two RT-PCR tests (Day 0 and Day 5)."

so it seems date of arrival by hotel is not counted as day ONE as official sites indicate, but day "0".

Day "1" is next day.  Than by this hotel  my day 5 for #2 quarantine stay and PCR would be for me, March 7, not March 6.

not sure what to do for #2 booking on this conflicting info.   Any suggestions?

Also, if I arrive at Phuket in evening, take PCR test and check in at a hotel, if my results not available by next day noon(or check out time), do I have to book another another day in quarantine to wait for results?

    thanks for any input.

All your questions are about current entry requirements.

Currently these are not completely clear. You would be able to enter and do quarantine at Bangkok or look into Phuket sandbox option.

All this is covered in many current threads.

However again your return if solely to keep your extentions ongoing, I suggest that is plain crazy.

The pathway to enter visa exempt obtain a new non O and then extension is very simple. Especially for you as the bank account and financials are in place.

Put your travel off for time being

Dr. Jack, I was going to return to Thailand soon just to renew my O-non immigrant extension. I meet all requirements.   But what you said makes so much sense to let it expire and enter after covid requirements finished.  As a US citizen I can return to Thailand on a visa exempt.  However, all official Thai embassy sites say visa exempt good for only 30 days max and than must exit. So I'm a bit confused.

    Thank you

  4. @airalee,

Thanks for message.  I inherited a stack of gold coins and brought them into country about 25 years ago.  As I didn't get a receipt as I should have, I can't take them out of the country without paying huge tax. Otherwise I would take them back to the US where probably a premium for coins. Or Singapore where I heard there is a market. If cannot sell I may melt and convert to 99% bar.

Will tell you if I find any info.

    Thanks again

  5. Would very much appreciate info; I have Mexican 50 peso gold coins here in Thailand,  I think purity is marked 900/1000.  I don't think there is a premium for coins so I would sell for best price close to spot of gold content.  Any suggestions and especially specific names of places in Bangkok or phuket where I can sell is appreciated.

  6. Article says 280,447 foreign tourist brought in 16.8 billion baht.  If there was 100,000 middle class retired foreigners spending an average of 45,000 baht a month that would be 54 billion baht each year.

Thai government always talks about getting the ultra weathy retirement people.

But I think government would do well to encourage us middle class income retirees to come and stay.  The Philippines, Mexico and many other places know our value to their economy. Why not Thailand?

  7. At first I thought I could use the Vaccination certificate where I got my injections for international travel.  After all, it has my passport number.

But from comments on this forum I am going to get a certificate from the MOPH because as Kuhn Jen65 pointed out, it it's an official document from the Thai government recognized by WHO.   So I think that it's the best and most logical way to go.  That's because as far as I know, there is no international standard document SPECIFICALLY  for covid injections certification .  So every government MUST rely on the official documents of other countries.  And a stamped certificate from the MOPH is about the most "official"  health document you can get in Thailand.

I understand there is the WHO yellow book for international certificate of vaccination.  But l have traveled in Asia for 25 years and like so many others, have not been asked to show it once.  I am wondering if most Asian immigration officials have ever seen one.

I haven't looked for location of MOPH as yet.  Any info where it is on Phuket and their experience in getting covid certificate from them is appreciated.  Thanks
