  1. Some may remember 'Khong' when he worked at 'Banana': he has now opened his own shop, called 'King Kong' at a rear corner on floor 4 of Dtuk Com. He does home visits as well, charging 500 per visit, but only 300 if it's a simple fix. Apart from his knowledge and skill, he is an extremely pleasant man whom I've known for years. Tel:085-3893859.

  2. For your Information:

I presented myself at the ER last night at around 7 p.m. after a cat bit me deeply on the hand (my own cat!).

The bill was 2300 baht, and the cashier explained that 'medical service' was 50 baht for Thais, and 500 for non-Thais. All medications, he said, were twice the price for 'farangs' Moreover, they don't accept credit cards - even my Thai Farmers one - and since I was short of the 2300, I had to leave my passport at the desk while I went to the nearest ATM. However, the medical attention was faultless. .

  3. I have a similar problem with a woman living across the road who irrationally hurls abuse at me most times when I leave my house or walk the dog in the soi. I am absolutely certain she is not in her full mind, and to respond to her insults logically and rationally only fuels her fire: my only response is a NO response. I have not spoken to her for two years now, and for her to have absolutely no reaction from me must very frustrating. I completely ignore her. I never speak, nor look at her, and if she chooses to insult me, I often bend down and chat to the dog, or play with an occasional cat.

I can’t honestly say things have improved, but I’m blowed if I’m to move house or enter into a slanging match with this harridan.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Three years ago I had two horrendous bouts of kidney stones, and went to see the specialist urologist at the Memorial hospital, Dr.Jessada. He is there only on Thursdays after 1600, and I had to make an appointment. He is vastly experienced, and must be close to retirement. His wife is Head of Medicine at Sattahip's esteemed Sirikit Hospital. He speaks excellent English.

He operated on me two days later, and crushed a stone which was apparently a centimetre in diameter. I can recommend Dr.Jessada unconditionally.

  5. Go to the Government clinic on Soi Buakhaow at the front of the fire-station. I had a tetanus shot and the first of the rabies shots at the Memorial and that cost me 1700 baht which included 700 baht for a doctor I didn't see! In Soi Buakhaow the subsequent shots were 400 baht a time.

  6. I have a large number of audio tapes, mostly classical music, and a similar number of video tapes. I don't even have a machine to play the tapes on now, ahd they are just clutteringn up my house.

Can anyone suggest a good home for this, or is it realistically the dustbin?

  7. Forgive me for repeating an earlier posting on vets in Pattaya (see thread).

I’ve been here 21 years and have seven cats and a dog –all charity cases needing attention at some time or another. I have ‘tried’ all the vets you have mentioned, and all have fallen short in some way – little experience, hit and miss diagnoses, over-medication and so on.

Finally I have settled happily on Khun Net and his assistant Khun Porn at the Siam Country Pet Hospital (tel; 038-413689). Go along Siam Country Club Road from the Sukumvit Road, cross the railway line, and 100 metres on the left after the first 7-11, you’ll find the clinic.

I have no financial interest in the clinic: my only, and overriding concern is the health of my pets, and Khun Net is, frankly, an exceptional vet.

  8. in process of getting crown done with Songram at Pattaya Inter, first time i felt i was not being pushed into the more expensive gold crown, after quick chat he agreed 8k one would be fine. thats cheap, dont need gold at my age, basic one will outlast me.

Same thing cost 5,000 or 6,000 with post at Dr. Warin and... no pain. Please tell me, how can you beat that??

    :wai:

You simply can't: have a look at the link 'The Finest Dentist'

  9. You can find these at the Numchai cycle shop on the Sukumwit Road: the shop is on the right hand side just before you reach the footbridge at the traffic lights in Naklua. The pulse-rate monitor has a sensor which fits over the heart on an elastic belt, and relays its measurement to a sophisticated watch which can be attached to a cycle handlebar, training machine or even the wrist. However, these monitors are not cheap, depending on the model you choose of course. Hope this helps.

  10. No thanks...sounds like too much excretion for me and would definitely cut into my internet surfing and eating time.

Taking dives into Beetle sized potholes and being side-swiped by motos and cars doesn't sound like much fun either.

    Serious answers only please.

  12. I am investigating the possibility of forming a cycling group to go for a ride perhaps twice a week, and get the exercise we so much need.

As I see it, the group would ride at a steady speed, but not breakneck, and would stop perhaps twice to top up on water, and let any stragglers catch up. A ride would be around 20-25 km. We would meet outside Carrefour, which is central, at say, 4 p.m. when the heat of the day has passed.

The group would suit both sexes, and any age, really, except the very young and very old. Bikes ought to be in good working order, but not necessarily specialized.

Please give me some feedback, and perhaps have a word with friends who might be interested but not necessarily native English-speakers and who rarely look at the

    Pattaya forum.

    Over to you!

  13. This is nothing but an advertisment for a dentist, nobody has asked about dentists. Sorry but I like mine and I would be upset if I had to wait two weeks for attention, not that two weeks awaiting treatment means anything. Cavity filling 500 Baht,no wife (or husband) offering second rate treatment, investigation for 50 Baht etc etc Happy Dental Centre Soi 17 3rd Road south

Thank you for berating my advertisement for a dentist, and thank you for writing your own! Not the most intelligent of subscribers, I suggest.

  14. Readers with pets (not just dogs as the name suggests) may be interested in the "Dog Enjoy" shop on 3rd Road, on the right hand side about 300 metres before reaching Central Road. This shop has an extraordinary range of pet food/snacks/toys etc, and certainly the tinned and dry food is cheaper than anything I have found in Pattaya or Naklua. The shop is 3 units wide, and has a good large sign (in English) outside.

  15. I have sat in more dentists’ chairs than I care to remember, suffering from poor teeth since my early childhood. Now, at the age of 63, I am pleased to say that Khun Warin, on Pattaya Central Road, is the finest dentist I have ever met, and in my case, that is a significant statement.

Khun Warin is excellent, -positive and caring, and will save teeth whenever possible. Moreover, patient comfort is a major consideration for him. He is simply superb.

I have recommended him to many people, and all, either directly or indirectly to me, have expressed their enormous satisfaction with his skills. If you need more convincing, witness his crowded appointments’ book!

The Dental Care Centre can be found 150 metres from Central/Third Road traffic lights going towards the beach, (and is directly opposite a small pharmacy called ‘For You’ Pharmacy). Tel.no. is 038 720079 Closed on Sundays.

  16. Nice of you to help the dog!

However, Khun Net's charges are considerably lower than elsewhere (vaccines, specialised food, neutering and so on), so, with respect, I don't think you have the same place.

  17. The one on South Pattaya road seems OK,just picked a street dog up from there had a broken leg 8000 Baht and kept in a week,I think the one your mentioning quoted 15000

Over the 20 years since I have been in Pattaya I have visited altogether 9 vets’ clinics, all of which have been unsatisfactory in some way or other, and certainly two of my pets have died as a result of poor veterinary care.

    Now there is good news.

Probably the best vet I’ve met, Khun Net, has opened his own clinic on Siam Country Club Road, “Siam Country Pet Hospital”, tel. 038-413689, opening hours 0800-0000 (midnight). Home visits can be arranged.

Khun Net has wide experience and vast veterinary knowledge. He has a superb touch with animals, is thorough and meticulous in his examinations, ably helped by a lady vet, Khun Pond, and two nursing assistants. At the clinic there are facilities for X-ray, ultrasound, and blood testing.

    Directions

From the Sukumwit, turn down Siam Country Club Road and cross the railway line. After 500 metres there is a 7-11 on the left hand side, and after another 100 metres the clinic is on the same left hand side. There is parking available on the small forecourt by pulling off the road slightly, or at the back of the building.

It might be an idea to jot down the phone number on a piece of paper and attach it to your fridge with a fridge magnet for future reference!

  19. There is indeed a branch in Chiang Mai, and there are two phone numbers;

    053-279-875 and 086-312-5877

I forget to mention yesterday that they will do an estimate for you free of charge.

  20. Readers might be interested about "Mr.Bag-Fix" which is located opposite the Caltex petrol station, diagonally opposite the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. This shop offers to repair "suitcases, handbags, golf bags, wallets, sports bags, belts, leather jackets", and also cope with "zippers, linings, locks, handles etc etc". Repairs are done in BKK, and there is a minimum charge of 150 baht. The service takes one week. Tel.no. is 038-424-828.

For less specialized repairs, but excellent shoe repairs, there is a husband and wife team in Naklua; go to the sacred tree near the old market by the sea. There is a tiny one-way system with a 7-11 on the corner, and the shoe-repairers are in a little shop just behind that. They sit side by side stitching away at the front. Their workmanship is exceptional, and ever so cheap. I have used them for years. I think their English is probably minimal, but just point to your repair and the wife, who does most of the communication, will show you two polite fingers which will mean 'ready in two days'. Open on Sunday too.
