  1. Samrit,

you are typical of the Thai mentality to stick your head in the sand and pretend that nothing is wrong with Thailand. As a journalist and human being, I saw what happened out there during the Red Shirts protests. It was abhorent

Many innocent people died as a result of the Army's indiscriminate and sometimes deliberate attempts to gun down bystanders as well as protesters.

What about the 2 journalists that were killed? Hiro Muramoto and Fabio Pholengi? Who shot and killed them? You would just tell their families to accept the fact that they were killed and leave it at that? The Thai military is only good for killing other Thais. It happened in 1992-1976-1973.

The Thai military has never been in a modern conflict battling it out with another Armed and trained Army. Their only experience in modern warfare is killing thais and southern insurgents.

In some countries, unlike Thailand we WANT THE TRUTH! And what the hel_l do you know about the Kennedy Assassination? was Lee Harvey Oswald really half Thai?

You and your country have alot of growing up to do.

  2. American here in LOS. I've been back twice traveling through JFK and Honolulu Int airports. Because I was a victim of identity theft in the US severasl years ago, I was harrased by the Homeland security people at JFK. My passport was taken away and I was hustled into some windowless room and told to be quiet. <deleted> did I do?

After a long wait, I was asked if I had ever been arrested. I responded by telling the gestapo man that if he checked Hawaii's records, he would see that my identity had been stolen and the thief had been arrested in Georgia with a Mug shot taken, and he skipped bail and never returned for his trial. He could easily check with the authorities in Georgie and match his mug shot to mine DUH!

A year later, the exact same thing happens in Honolulu. When I asked why this information from my previous trip through JFK was NOT updated in their Homeland bulllshit data system, I received no reply other than to contact some buercracy in Wash. DC So there you go, Homeland Gestapo is on top of things, don't you worry. I suspect the same thing will happen next year when I go back.

Bush and the regime have stripped Americans of their basic civil liberties period. All this crap and charades about safety is a pretense to further that goal. Consider this quote from a great American, Benjamin Franklin:

Those that give up their liberty for a measure of safety, deserver neither :o

  3. Hi fellow expats

A friend of mine told me that the Thai government granted farangs with a work permit 2 year exemptions from paying taxes. Does anyone out there have any clue or idea what this exemption is or if it even exists?

My friend's not sure where he heard it from. Any info is greatly appreciated

    thanks, J-Bangkok

  4. Security in Bangkok to be tightened

BANGKOK: -- Bangkok governor Apirak Kosayodhin warned directors of 50 districts in Bangkok of possible insurgents' attacks in the capital in an urgent letter distributed on Wednesday.

Mr Apirak told the directors to work with police and soldiers to prevent insurgents' attacks, especially at crowded places like department stores, skytrain and subway stations.

He said security measures to be stepped up in Bangkok around the clock to guarantee safety to the Bangkokians.

Public are also urged to help authorities and inform them if they see or know something suspicious.

Mr Apirak's action came after rumours circulated that insurgents planned to stage violent activities again on Friday.

Insurgents staged a spate of bombings and arson in the southernmost provinces on Sunday night, killing seven people and hurting more than 50 others.

    -- Bangkok Post 2007-02-21

There's only one good thing or two thay may come out of more bombings in Bangkok....blow up those freaking goddamned advertising TVs and speakers in the skytrains and on the platforms. And while they are at it, blow up any other loud and obnoxious noise pollution creators in this town. anyone notice how freaking loud and intrusive this town is?

Other than that, this city is paradise..................NOT!

  5. AFAIK ..... Your extension permission to stay will be tied to your non-imm B; However, if you have a multi-entry non-imm-B that will not be voided by leaving employment and surrendering the work-permit.

    I'm confused. You wrote:

So if you eneter on a 3mos non-imm B .. and get your permission to stay extended for a year and quit or get fired you will be given 7 days. If, however you have a multi-entry then you will be required to exit/re-enter the country in accordance with your last 90 day report.

I applied and recieved a 3 month Non-IM B visa in Singapore. I will be applying for a work permit with all the required documents from the employer and myself. Am I still eligible for a 1 year work permit or do I have to leave in 7 days??

  6. Its amazing Thailand alright. Recently I viewed the Thai Government's website for customs. It clearly states that personal and household effects are EXEMPT from customs duties, when being shipped from overseas.

I've learned after being contacted by the local Thai shipping agent, that this is NOT the case. I will be assessed customs duties for my old books, DVD's, Videos, clothes etc. Has anyone had a similar experience here before??

Its amazing that the official Government site would publish that misleading information, and allow this 'rip-off farang' prevailing attitude to continue.

Oh yeah, its amazing Thailand. After being here one year, the amazing bit has worn off.

I posted a question about this topic back in september but I either didnt recieve a reply or I cant find any replies on this topic. Here it goes again:

Does anyone have any experience having their personal items shipped from America/UK to Thailand?

What are the procedures, fees if any, what should I expect from the Thai Government?

I am shipping mostly books, videos/DVDs/ tools, artwork, some video equipment, photo albums, records-LPs, documents etc. No furniture or big ticket appliances.

    Any informative reply is appreciated.

    many thanks, Expatpuchai

Does anyone have any information or experience dealing with Thai Customs? specifically having personal effects shipped from the US to Thailand.

My situation is that I have in transit personal effects being shipped by boat from the US to Thailand. Are there any requirements that have to be met to have my effects accepted and passed by customs? Are there any custom fees payoffs that have to be considered?

The items in question are not furniture or big ticket appliances. Just books, Magazines, DVD-VHS collection, some video gear( HI8 camera, small monitor, VHS player/recorder, misc cables) tool box, art work, etc.

Any informative reply is most appreciated

    Thanks, JM
