Thanks for the info ,what was the lapse of reason?

The big subject you don't mention is why you are going to Pattaya. If it's for work with an existing company who has a Thai operation, you should/may be in the company of similar expats. That makes life much easier.

But as you don't mention it I assume you are going it alone in which case you'll be well advised to read through various threads in these fora, particularly those associated with relationships and their fallout.

I wouldn't totally avoid the expat beer bar scene but just be aware that a large proportion of expat bar keeps around town are social misfits best avoided. That's not to say there aren't good guys among them but they are in the minority.

For a year, depending on how the visa regs pan, out you'll have to give consideration to that subject and that's a potential minefield as you will only be able to do 90 days in 180.

Do you intend to seek employement while you are in Pattaya? If not, what are you going to do with your time? Trust me, Iv'e been there, without work or a healthy pasttime it's too easy to drift into the boozing and things only go downhill from that point.

You may wish to consider renting a small house some way out of town. Near enough to get in when you need to but far enough so that the evenings out do not become the rule.

Lastly, get in there and enjoy. I loved the place for many years and would probably still be there but for a momentary lapse of reason.

  6. On my fingers six months from Dec 1 would be June 1.

You can enter Thailand at any time up until June 1 - up to 3 times. An entry will result in a permitted to stay stamp allowing a 60 day stay. That stay can be extended by immigration for another 30 days if they allow.

Yes you are quite right June 1st is the correct date but I am trying to find out why the 6 months appears to start in the uk from date of issue rather than on the 1st entry into thailand

  7. Can someone explain how a triple entry visa works as after calling the Thai Consulate in the Uk i was told the Visa started from the day it is issued in the UK and I must use the Visa within 6 months .So if it is issued on DEC1 in th UK would I have to use the 3rd entry before 1st MAY

    Am I confused !!!

This says to me I have 60 days to enter Thailand from issue date in the UK but in the extract below it implies that I have 90 days to enter Thailand.

    EXTRACT FROM THAI VISA APPLICATION

TOURIST VISA . THIS ALLOWS A STAY OF UPTO 60 DAYS FROM ARRIVAL IN THAILAND AN EXTENSION OF UPTO 30 DAYS CAN BE OBTAINED ON APPLICATION TO THE IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES AND PAYMENT OF THE CURRENT FEE. THE LENGTH OF EXTENSION IS AT DISCRESION OF THE AUTHORITIES AND THERE IS AN INCREASING TENDENENCY FOR IT TO BE LIMITED TO 15 DAYS OR EVEN LESS.

THIS IS CLASSIFIED AS A SINGLE ENTRY AND THE TOURIST HAS TO ARRIVE IN THAILAND WITHIN 90 DAYS OF THE DATE OF ISSUE OF THE VISA BY THE CONSULATE FOR DOUBLE ENTRY VISAS ETC THE PERIOD IS DOUBLED.

THE COST IS £25.00 PER ENTRY IE. SINGLE £25 DOUBLE £50 TREBLE £75 ETC.

    thanks for any replies.

  8. Hi Guys

I am 48 from the UK and coming to Thailand to live with my Thai girlfriend, I am wishing to stay for a least 18 months but since the change in visa requirements I think this may be difficult, can you help with the following.

    1. How do I stay in Thailand for an inderinite period if I arrive on a tourist visa for 1 month.

2.Do I need to but a return air ticket to the Uk to show I am eventually leaving the country.

    Look forward to hearing

    Regards
