  1. Thank you for the clarification and that’s very helpful
  2. Hi, I have a few questions regarding this topic. Q1 As I have been tax resident now for 180 days in the current tax year should I now file my first thai tax return or is this technically not due until March 2025? Q2. As Thailand currently taxes you on a remittance only basis do I need to also declare any overseas income that is earned after 31 Dec 2023 if I “am not” intending to remit any of this earned income to Thailand in the current tax year? For example, if I wish to remit savings only and leave my overseas income overseas do I still need to declare it? Q3. If I need to declare overseas rental income I only know the final amount earned in the prior tax year after Apr 5 of the following year so how do I reconcile this with reporting my rental income by the end of March if that’s the cut off date for filing your thai tax return? Thank you.
  3. If I have overseas rental income but I do not bring the income into Thailand but instead leave it in my home country to accumulate and pay tax there. Do I then still need to file a tax return to declare overseas rental income in Thailand assuming I don’t intend to bring the income here in the tax year it was earned? I have no other income source in Thailand aside from a small amount of local bank interest. Can I then opt not to file a tax return even though I have a tax ID in Thailand? Thanks.
  4. That’s very useful to know. Thank you for the additional clarification.
  5. Thank you for the clarification.
  6. Hi, assuming your living in Thailand as a retiree is there any legal requirement in Thailand to obtain a TIN number here. I have a tax ID from the country I moved from previously and my existing banks seem ok with that for now so don’t really want the hassle of doing a thai tax return which I understand I will have to complete if I apply for a Thai TIn. Hoping it’s not necessary. Thanks.
  7. I have recently relocated to Bangkok on a retirement visa and updated my new address details with my bank account overseas. As a result I am now being asked for a tax iD number for Thailand. As I am not working here and have no income in Thailand am I still able to apply for a tax ID and just submit a tax return each year here thereafter with nil income? I plan to go to the local tax office here next week and apply for one and see what they say but any insights from other members on this topic as to how they deal with overseas banks or brokers requiring a thai tax ID when you move here would be appreciated. Also if there is a link to the form to complete please can you provide it. Thank you.
  8. Thanks for the clarification Todd, appreciate your assistance.
  9. Do you have to file a thai tax return if you get a tax ID? Is it complicated to do this on your own or do you use an accountant? Thanks.
  10. Will be visiting CW to do my first 90 day report in person in a few weeks and want to obtain a certificate of residence after I do the 90 day report. Does anyone know which counter I should go to and is there a form available that I can fill out before I attend immigration for this? Thank you
  11. Thanks guys, that clarifies why different residence certificates may be needed for me. I noticed when I look at the reasons you can choose for the residence certificate being issued it has driving license as an option but no bank account option so I will verbally explain this when I visit CW immigration early next month. Appreciate your comments.
  12. Am also thinking to apply for a TIN as recently moved to Bangkok and was asked for it by my overseas bank as changed address from Hong Kong. If I obtain a TIN here do you then need to fill in a tax return every year if retired and not looking to claim any interest back etc?
