  1. SHI* THIS IS AN OLD POST...55555555555555 Annandale : yes, I would recomment a visit there...nice girls...the wife loves it there. Another wat down in Campbelltown, and another one wway down the south coast that I can't remember the name of....

Enquire re getting Thai TV, any of the satellite providers will help you...a dish and receiver installed should be less than $400.

  2. It was and is. :)

    Gotlost

This might sound like I'm jumping here a bit, but I act in the same way as Chaimai when dealing with my good friend Martin.

When alive, he would take the p!ss in a true English fashion and that upset some types. Most people who REALLY knew him, were the ones who were the most abusive to him and he took as good as he got. My last words to him when he was lying in bed with a patch over one eye was....

You cannot hide from your customers that easy, Captain Pugwash
    .

Was I being rude, I think not so Like it or not (with respect), I will continue to take the p!ss out of the old bugger and although I don't believe in the afterlife, I think he would be having a laugh at us all now.

Right on dave. When I visited Surin and rolled up to see Martin he would yell at me..."here's that bloody Aussie bast**d!" And me retort would be " Up your r's you fat Pommie git" Great fun!!! Missed.

  3. Don't let the reds know about the buses, they'll start drooling... How many did the burn last time? 14? Wonder who got the bill for that.

Spoke to my wife earlier today:

"Thai news on TV showed the red shirt leader telling them to bring empty glass bottles to BKK. Don't fill them with petrol, we have petrol for you in BKK"

    Frightening.

  4. So I to am going to Buriram area in March, and was hoping to catch airplane. I land on 24 March in Thailand and was looking to go straight to Buriram. (Haven't see G/F for a few months now :D ) anyway

Having looked at Nok web site, not a thing in March????? Maybe they just haven't updated yet? economy! lack of passengers?

So guys can you recommend so other way to go from Bangkok airport Int not domestic to Buriram (well Satuk really, but Buriram is close enough) And no not walking either :)

Something not to expensive and reliable. Otherwise is could be g/f will have to travel to me in Bangkok first. But she is worried about that, lol could be another day not seeing her! :D :D

So Car? Bus, (would that mean travelling to a bus station?) TAXI!!!!!! :D

lol other idea is I go to Pattaya for a day and then catch bus north :D

Nok now have march schedule on their web site. Changed days they fly to Fridays and Sundays only

  5. 1. US stations transmit in NTSC format. Thai TV stations use PAL. You will not get a picture.

    2. Get a Thai digital set top box and plug it in using a HDMI cable for the best picture..

    3. US power supply is 110 Volts, Thai is 230/240 volts. You will need a transformer.

    4. If you have a DVD player it will probably show both NTSC and PAL formats. Check the manual.

  6. PBAir's demise is a real pain in the arrrrrrrrrs. I fly in and out with monotonous regularity but the loss of the PBAir evening flight means an extra night in BKK and the mid morning flight next day to Khon Kaen where the wife meets me. The only up side is that now we have the excuse to go and stock up on goodies in the new Tops Supermarket.

A Thai friend of mine on the Roi Et City Council tells me they are trying to negotiate with another airline (both Nok & Bangkok Airways were mentioned) but so far without success. Maybe a good idea for a rich and enterprising farang would be to open a daily shuttle Roi Et to Khon Kaen and back using a 6/8 seat light aircraft. It would make a change from losing money trying to run a bar.

Meanwhile it's a one and a half hour drive to KK but at least the road is being improved.

Be aware that if booking Nok Air on the internet, you must fill in EVERY box...if the form is incomplete (?) it will just freeze. Even though I am retired I had to fill in 'business phone number' . Very frustrating . I was using PB for BuriRam-BKK and Nok have taken this route.

  7. Nok Air schedule shows flights only up to first week of February, yet a week ago their schedule showed flights through to end of Feb.

Something going on here...I want to fly to BuriRam in March but I suspect Nok are going to close this route that they picked up from PB Air when they went broke.

Alternative from BKK is Bus, Train or fly to Ubon and get a long taxi ride or train to BuriRam.

  8. Would she even need her Thai passport to go to Laos?

She could exit Thailand at Nong Khai. AUS pp.

Enter Laos using her Thai ID card. Returning to Thailand with ID card only.

    Get a Thai passport.

Exit Thailand with Thai pp when returning to AUS.

Enter AUS using her AUS passport.

This assumes, of course, that she has a Thai ID card and can get a Thai passport.

    Would that work?

She has a Thai passport in her maiden name, and an Australian passport in her married name....We had thought about this, but immigration check boarding pass against passport. Thanks anyway guys. We want to play by the rules...

  9. Being Thai makes all the difference. She can extend for one year. If not Thai such an entry could not be extended more than 7 days and that would likely require a ticket out within that time period.

Check top of forum for office locations - she should have ID card and probably home register, a 4x6cm photo and 1,900 baht for the application form.

She can also cross border and return for a new 15 day visa exempt entry if any problem extending.

A BIG thank you to those responses...and so fast....a beer in Surin in a few weeks when I get there...

  10. Even now while I am in my office at work I can almost hear the sounds of the disco's and their rhythmic beat thump, thump, thumps through my body and to see all the attractive people in their sharp and sexy clothes... Could I give that up for the tranquil sound of a peaceful village? Oh man... I am longing for Silom or Walking Street right now! hahah :)

You should be working and not using the office internet Paul!!

  11. Who cares? This swine flu is one of the least harmful, and least dangerous flus that the world has seen in the last 100 years. So far

only a tiny fraction of people have been infected, and have died, as happens with the "normal" flus that are more common. There

is absolutely nothing to fear. This flu will subside within a couple more months, and alot of embarrassed people will be running around

wondering why they got so excited about nothing.

Sorry, you are not quite correct about the H1N1 flu virus. The reason all the experts and the WHO are so concerned about it is because H1N1 was exactly the format of the 1918 Spanish flu which killed more than 50 million people around the world in 6 months in its 3rd & 4th waves. That is indeed the other point of concern from almost every expert on this matter; we are only at the start of the 1st wave now with this H1N1 strain. This is definitely not something to be joking or complacent about and indeed the authorities are not, so with the right communication and responses we'll probably not have as high a death toll as 1918, but it is expected that this rapidly mutating virus (originating as H5N1) will get very deadly within the next 6-12 months. This is a nasty pathogen, it hits the young and strong people the hardest in the form of a cytokine storm (hypercytokinemia) look it up on Wikipedia before you start joking about it. Very Nasty - I'd rather be embarrassed than dead any day.

1918: No antibiotics. Large movement of people (troops) around the globe. That's why so many died.

  12. Note re hotel safes, not safe.

    Room service maintenance:

Place a light smear of oil on the keyboard.

Have a look the next day what (4?) numbers have been pressed....

Average of about 8 tries and presto, it opens...

  13. In Sydney, my wife makes batches of take-away Thai food that I sell in the office and to friends.....we put that money in a piggy bank (adds up to a few hundred A$) and maybe once a year we go over to Surin where she buys (a pick-up truck full) exercise books, folders, shoes, pens etc.....for the local school...then put on a hot lunch for the students....goes over very well.

We never buy booze...errr, well not 100% true as I buy it for myself..hic.

  14. I am currently in the Tong Tarin in Surin.

As all the bars are closed so I got a bottle of scotch ....and called room service for a bucket of ice...they charged me Baht 120!!!!

Not worried about the money, but hotels usually supply ice free of charge!!??

    Hic....
