  1. Some confusion over my original post. I send money to Thailand on a regular basis, but if I return in August I will only have a ten month record of 65,000 baht transfers. This money has been used by my partner for day to day living, so there is not 650,000 accumulated. My question is - is it permitted to use a combination approach for one year visa - ten month record of 65,000 baht transfers, plus a lump sum of 200,000 baht?

  2. I lived in Thailand from 2004 with a Thai partner, but have been absent for the past two years because of Covid restrictions . I hope to return in August. I already have a long-standing Thai bank account, and have been depositing 65,000 baht there each month from UK bank. Unfortunately, there is a break in deposits, so in August 2022 I will only have a ten month record. My question is, will it be possible to use a combination method with say 200,000 baht in account ? I will be using Chiang Mai immigration, and will hope to apply for long stay visa in September. I will enter in August on 90 day visa, and then convert to one year if possible.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Could you expand on that?

I was told by a source I respect that it was possible for a farang in a same sex marriage with a Thai could apply to the Thai consulate in Savannakhet, Laos or in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam for a 1 year Multiple Entry Non Imm O visa for reason of marriage. Marriage certificate would need to be shown.

I have currently no way of verifying if this is correct.

  4. I know that same sex marriage is not yet legal in Thailand, but does anyone have any knowledge or experience of applying for a Thai spouse visa when the Thai/faring same sex couple are legally married in the farang’s country?

I am a UK gay male legally married to my Thai partner in UK. I gave up my retirement visa back in February (pre covid situation). I had planned to switch to another, less expensive option. Now the pandemic has changed everything. But I wonder if I might have any success with a spouse visa in Thailand. I don’t intend to do this until August 2021, when perhaps the world may be a bit different, and travel and immigration less restrictive.

I have heard that some Thai embassies and consulates in some countries will accept such visa applications based on same sex marriage. And what about applications within Thailand?
    Any thoughts?

  5. I am in the process of renewing my retirement visa using the monthly income method. Previously I got a letter from the UK embassy, which although expensive, worked well.

This year I am using a combination of evidence from my UK bank account and my Thai account. I am well over the 720,000 baht total for the year. However, there is a snag - last June, I only sent 25,000 baht, and my agent says that it is likely my visa will be denied despite having deposited well over 65,000 baht for the other eleven months. Had I known in advance of the new rules I would never have allowed this to happen. Is there anything I can do to sort this?

Any thoughts on this, or suggestions, please.

  6. I am a UK citizen about to renew my retirement visa here in Chiang Mai. My UK bank transfers a portion of my pension each month, and I get an online letter from them confirming the transfer which includes both my UK account number and my Bangkok Bank account number where the money is received in sterling.

I assume this will be sufficient evidence. What do you think?

  7. If you stay out the country (UK) for a certain length of time (I forget the exact amount of days, the period is changing in September) you can claim back any tax as you'll be a tax exile.

Ask TV member TaxExile about this as he is 'hip to the scene' so to speak, right Tax?

Thanks for replies to my query. I'm not sure about the tax situation - my UK pension is taxed and so is rental income from UK property. I've queried both with UK tax authorities, and they say that's correct. But I'd be interested to hear what 'TaxExile' thinks.

As for Paypal suggestion - I don't think that Paypal will pay into a Thai bank account.

  8. I'm about to start a holiday villa rental business in Thailand. The business will be in the name of Thai partner, and will market through internet. Target market will be UK and pricing will be in sterling, so easiest way to collect money would be through my UK bank account, but this would surely be subject to UK tax. Cash on arrival might make the business look dodgy. Are there any other ways of getting payment in advance without paying UK tax? Not big enough yet to use visa or mastercard.

  9. I have had a retirement visa which has been renewed once. Next renewal date is May 30th 2007. However, I'd like to be in UK at that time. Does anyone know whether it is possible to renew the retirement visa in Thailand in advance? And how is this done? I don't want to use the embassy in London as they require so much documentation and it all has to be notarised.
