  1. Hi,

I have purchased the Mifi modem Huawei E585 from the Uk 3 service provider, it is now unlocked to receive any pay as you go Sim card.

I Intend to use this as my wireless network access point for my iPad and am unsure which Sim card provider and package to go for in central Bangkok.

I understand that I need a Sim card for data, but can anyone confirm if I will receive the usename and password along with the service providers data point address when I buy the sim ?

It's all new to me you see.

    Thanks in advance.

    Wood.

  2. I'm currently out of Los and enjoying snippets of democracy juggle for position, naturally corrected Market prices for us all will be the equilibrium of all this !

But, relax - Khun Thatcher is closely monitoring the situation.

Xmas greetings to all from blighty.... Tis like wintery hel_l over here.

  3. My wife has collected a dozen or so samples of soap bars from our supplier exhibiting at BIG impact exhibition in BKK, they are going to be carried in her hand luggage as free of charge samples with a retail value of around 1000 baht, she has no receipts as they were provided free, are there any restrictions or can anyone offer friendly advice for customs etc.

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Noticed this in the BPost yesterday, but it seems to have disappeared ?

Uk to Bkk direct with BA ( yes good old British airways ) inclusive of all taxes at £388 pp.

Bought them in may used them at the end of may, flights full.

Just bought uk to BKK via Singapore with Singapore 5 adults at £ 328 pp Inc taxes.

    Flying end of sept 09.

Don't mind 2 hours in changi, nice place less chance to meet Dick Turpin, remember him ?

Been using this totally reliable company for 12 years and without exception they are wonderful - a true happy customer so a big pat on the back for them.

Much prefer Thai airways - but with a total of 9 flights inside 12 months and a saving of £1500 !

    Economic crisis - too right.

Airlines suffering low numbers due to swine flu - wrong completely.

    Competition competition competition.

Btw - not had too many sherbets, sitting in a sauna writing this - phew !!

  5. Owe 2

    the clues in the name..

    SchMutzie,

be careful, I too was in BKK on business 4 weeks ago with my owe 2 iPhone, I did pay and set up the bolt on to give me 10 mb free roaming for £17 pm, I was there 8 days and used the phone for 21 mins calls to blighty and perhaps 10 mins to download e mails, ( I was very careful ) came home to a bill for £ 265 for 1 months charge.

I typically use £ 55 pm in the uk.

There is no comeback on these charges.

I suggest you leave the itoy in the uk and take a spare and buy a payg sim over there.

Or better still, go straight to MBK and sell it for 30,000 baht. Also remember that if you get it jail broken over there, you will still be paying your monthly charge to good old owe 2.

Ps a lot of posters talk of scams In thailand, believe me they are nothing compared to what owe 2 can take from you.

  6. Would anyone suggest what is the best way to buy a car sat nav which works in BKK and the rest of Thailand, unless thisast bit is asking too much.

Do they have to be bought in Thailand, which I believe are not cheap, or can you buy in the uk and take over, would I then work ?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. Hi All,

Would anyone have any knowledge on this fairly new Supalai Casa riva riverside development down at the bottom of Charoen Krung Road with its intersection with Rama III ?

Would you consider the location to be good ?

Any opinions warm or cold would be appreciated, since we are looking at a number apartments just out of the main centre and really don't have much idea.

    Thanks in advance.

  8. Thanks for your response eljeque, do you work in the legal profession ??

I am just a little concerned from reading this topic that no " qualified" legal members have commented, this question must be on the lips of all non thai land/property owners most of whom would have taken legal advice to buy.

It does not fill the market with much confidence.

I have not replied previously as Mobi had pretty well said it all. It really may be a problem for the sellers not your wife. If they have nothing to hide go along to the Land Office with them and see for yourself the problems they may have. Depends on each individual Land Office.

    Thanks,

a good suggestion, the visit to the land office is now arranged, i will keep you posted on this.

Two further related questions, could anyone advise what is a "reasonable" cost per month for a detached property management fee in Hua Hin and Samui

Is it normal, when you purchase ( as a thai ) outright the land to build a house and it is within a "complex", for you to have to take the "management fee" ?

    Thanks again..

  9. Hi everyone,

I have a technical question for the legal beagles on TV.

A)Imagine that a "foreign"controlled Thai company purchases land and then subdivides it into smaller plots for resale. A purchaser acquires one of these plots "legally", ie as a Thai national or using a properly constituted and genuine Thai company.

B)The Thai authorities decide to investigate the original land purchase and the developer is found to have violated Thai land ownership laws.

What is the legal situation of the people who bought plots from the developer?

I should add that I have been preparing a business plan to develop a quality tourist facility in Thailand but due to the problems of land ownership, political uncertainty and excellent advice I have received from contributors to TV, I have put my plans on ice.

Look forward to hearing your views.

My post on 03/10 asks a similar question, now that i have thought more on this subject, we are in fact, attempting to discover the Holy Grail.

I guess that many parties with land / property bought through a "foreign shared company" are sitting low wondering the same question.

I doubt if we will receive any legal views on this.

    Time will tell.

keep in touch on this subject - you can pm me if needed.

  10. I'm no expert but do have some experience in these matters.

I would think that if you suceeded in transferring the land into your wife's name, then you would have no liability or responsibility with regards to the comapny that previously owned the land.

However, I think you may well find that the company will not be able to transfer the land if it has foreign shareholders. In my case, I had to get rid of the foreign shareholding before the land could be transferred.

I assume you are not thinking of just buying the company - and if so my advice to you is don't.

I really recommend you get a good lawyer - it'll be worth it in the long run.

    Ooops !!

Thanks for the reply, yes, this follows our line of thought and hope yours went relatively smoothly.

Absolutely will not go near the business.

Is it an expensive headache to do this type of purchase and how would this process work ?, i guess that from what you state, it is not possible for the house ( not the business ) to be sold as it is ?

Any legal opinions will be very much appreciated and may result in some work.

    Thanks...

  12. Hi, We are new to this forum and hope you all take it easy with what may be repeated and straight forward question, :o

    Q. Due to current real estate uncertainties, my Thai wife, who incidentally has all her own money and rarely needs mine, is looking to buy a single property on less than 1 Rai. She has good business foresight and sees these as good times to buy, albeit with caution.

We have discovered through the company registrars that the Chanote title is held by a company which has only 2 non thai directors - yes true !

If she buys the property and at the same time the company is closed, will any liabilities carry over with the property and hence make it subject to any action where she may lose it.

    Thanks for any help offered.
