Yes and that’s what the media are reporting, we need to keep in mind that whilst the new figures are more than the average wage in the UK, for FLR and ILR applications both the applicants and sponsors salaries can be combined to meet the threshold, along with any savings they may have.

I suspect most couples will make the cut, but sadly not all.

I've just read an article from The Independent yesterday suggesting that the government is backtracking now on this and no decision has yet been made so that will come as some temporary relief for those affected.

  2. Hi,

Are there any German forum members who can assist me? I am purely carrying out research for the purpose of comparing with the UK.

I would like to know the financial requirements for a spouse joining a German citizen in Germany under family reunion for a temporary and then permanent resident permit. I know that the process is 3 years but would like to know the following:

    1. Application fees for the permit application at the beginning and end of process
    2. Minimum income or savings, if applicable and required
    3. The health insurance charge if German partner or applicant is not working. I know it is roughly 7.5% of salary if working.
    4. Any other significant financial costs involved.

    Thanks

I personally don’t think the first two suggestions are unreasonable, but the suggested increases in the NHS Surcharge for immigrants who are more than likely paying UK income tax and making National Insurance contributions in their own right certainly are.

As I’ve mentioned previously Sunak has a history of using this route which would appease the Daily Mail readers and Brexit fans.

I'm inclined to mostly agree with you on the English requirement proposal but don't really share your view about the income level. For example we can survive OK on a lower total income than proposed without, in my case, resorting to state support. Furthermore if they deem that a 'living' income of at least £26,200 is necessary (incidentally in the report they said "still exceptionally low" so if they had their way the figure would probably be in excess of £30k) then why is the state pension and/or support benefits nowhere near their proposed income figure?

Regarding the NHS Surcharge, we are in full agreement on that one. My wife also pays tax and NI.

I read on another site that it could be questionable raising visa fees purely to fund public sector salaries which is what Sunak has announced and could potentially be open to a legal challenge although I won't hold my breath on that possibility.

  4.

    Hi,

I’ve not posted on this forum for several years now since we left Thailand and settled in the UK. My wife is presently on FLR.

I am in regular contact with my local MP who is part of and I think chairman of a small group of around 20 predominantly right-wing Conservatives who very recently issued an extensive report with proposals on reducing net immigration.

Among these proposals are 3 recommendations directly affecting this thread:

    ·       Raise the minimum combined income threshold to £26,200 for sponsoring a spouse, in line with work visas.

    ·       Raise the minimum language requirement to B1 (intermediate level).

    ·       Raise the Immigration Health Surcharge to £2,700 per person, per year.

It is possible that this group has had an influence on the PM’s announcement to fund public sector workers pay increases.

I’m sure many of you will agree that the Tories see spouse visas as a soft target to extract more and more unjustifiable and probably uncosted fees from in order to fund in other areas which is grossly unfair.

So based on the aforementioned proposals, we might also see more obstacles put in place in the form of increased income and language requirements going into the future.

  5. Quick question. Could someone provide a link to the latest application form (online/hard copy) and main requirements along with a reference sheet for my wife to extend her settlement visa after the first 2.5 years have been completed. It is not due for quite some time but would like to research well in advance. The application will be based on having a UK spouse.

    Thanks.

  6. Can anyone give recommendations (including by PM) on contractors used for re-flooring work and re-painting of walls and rough costs. I am looking to have work done in our lounge, kitchen and hallway (condo) and the floor area is no more than 50 sqm.

  7. I may be changing the method for extending my visa for later this year.

I know that tenancy agreements are required to present as evidence but could someone inform me whether staying in a serviced apartment for a relatively short-term period of say three months is also acceptable and if so what form of evidence would be required?

Can you also confirm that for money in the bank of 400K is it now only 2 months evidence as I recall that previously it was 3 months.

  8. Is anyone having problems buying this tablet here?

I have been to around 6 outlets in my area today and last weekend all having the tablet on display with free case promotion but typically in this country when you want to buy you are told that the product is not in stock.

I was told today that Samsung are limiting sale of this tablet to just 200 in Thailand, can't believe that but if true what are Samsung Thailand playing at?

A shop assistant had a theory that it is a deliberate ploy by Samsung to attract customers into stores with this tablet on display in the hope that they will buy older Samsung tablets instead that are in stock?

Does anyone know what is going on?

  9. Did you declare ownership of the Thai property on your UK tax returns, there is a section for overseas property ownership?

Second question: was the money to buy the Thai property earned in the UK or overseas, if overseas was it declared in the UK?

If earned in the UK and you merely shipped it to Thailand to buy the property, your only tax exposure is on the profit element of the sale PLUS the exchange rate gain.

This is directly from the Government website:

    If you’re non-resident

Non-residents may have to pay UK tax on overseas property if they return to the UK within 5 years of leaving.

The important bits are that you are classed as non-resident for tax purposes and been out of the country for at least 5 years as non-resident which seems to indicate no tax liability.

  10. I recall during the practice runs back in 1999 that they tested 3 car trains coupled together which I witnessed in the Siam area so they obviously were considering this and presumably the stations can accommodate 6 car trains. But management for whatever reason (financial?) decided not to provide this during rush hours and alleviate the overcrowding.

  11. On this site and elsewhere there is an Etihad ad banner with 20% discount on fares. The company behind the banner seems to be Vizury.com. Is it legitimate and should there be anything to be wary of?

The link takes me to Etihad bookings page with the discount and nothing appears to be throwing up warning signs. For instance the URL doesn't appear any different to that when going directly to Etihad website.

  12. Hi,

On this forum and since found elsewhere there is a banner offering 20% fare discounts. Further investigation indicates that the company behind it is Vizury.com. Doing a dummy booking does indeed give me the discount and seemingly takes me to the Etihad bookings page with the URL appearing to be no different than a dummy booking done direct with Etihad without the banner link.

Is this all legitimate and is there anything I should be wary of?

As this is IT related also I'll post on the computer forum too.

  13. Appreciate the heads up. I wonder if they intended to inform their clients by some means other than Facebook.

I received an SMS from them about it this morning... in Thai, of course... So they have definitely gone above and beyond the call of duty to inform their customers. (NOT!)

My wife translated the message... as stated above... pretty much anything and everything will be offline.

Luckily KBank isn't my only bank.

I got caught out yesterday and not impressed.

Before anyone says I have no excuse with the so called well publicized notification in advance, firstly concerning this site I rarely go onto TV these days. Secondly, most of my interaction with KBank is via ATM and I never noticed any warning message displayed which they claim was shown on all machines. If it was there it certainly wasn't prominent. I received no sms on this even though I get sms for ATM withdrawals/deposits. When I called them yesterday they mentioned that some selected customers were contacted by sms so why not all of us that they have mobile contacts for on something so important? I also don't understand why banks in Thailand are so adverse to sending out written communications (including bank statements) by post.

  14. I have just returned from the UK, a week before leaving here I phoned the passport office and they gave me a date to go in and a time,I arrived half hour early ,paid my 128 pounds and 4 hours later picked up my new passport ,on arrival here I showed both passports ,no problem,a few days ago I went to immigration here in Pattaya ,the girl filled in a form and I took it to counter 6,come back tomorrow after 10,this I did and I was given my new passport with the stamps in it ,no fuss,no hassle and no charge

I did exactly the same last summer.

The staff in my office checked this out and told me there is no need for a letter from the Embassy here when doing the stamp transfers to the new passport and there was no issue when it was actually done by the staff member, requiring just one visit. I was told the letter only applies for passports applied for in Thailand so based on this and if it is the official Immigration line, the OP should not need a letter if he applies in the UK.

  15. Just had my latest 90 day extension done taking me up to 1st May as stamped on the slip.

On the 1st May we will be flying out (just before midnight schedule) to Japan. I am not entirely sure if there will be a need to do a further report before this flight such as on or before 30th April but can you experts and others confirm this or not. Bear in mind that the 1st May is a public holiday so Immigration will be closed anyway,

I have read previously that the extra 7 days granted after the stamp date don't count when departing the country but this may be wrong.

    Thanks.

  16. Just when this thread was starting to tail off.................................

    http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-28519085

Bloody hell! Just as I make an appointment. If they do strike over poor pay and under staffing, then Pugh and May must resign. Or perhaps bring in a gang of chimps and see if they can do a better job.

Enough is enough. This is getting beyond a joke now.

I will be getting my second passport when i am back i Glasgow next month. I'll do the walk in one day service to stop any hang ups

Planning to do this myself next month in Durham. Will there be any issues when returning to BKK airport with a cancelled old passport containing visa extension and re-entry permit when stamping in the new passport?

  17. She needs to print the application form, sign the hard copy and hand it in when she submits her application and supporting documents at the Visa Application Centre.

I've tried clicking the confirmed button but it won't allow me to proceed until there is a signature. A box pops up stating Signature Required. I can't see anyway round this other than to type in her name. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

    * Mandatory information

    Signature * Date Signed
  18. I have gone through the online application for my Thai wife’s next visa to England and hit a snag. She has previously been granted 3 visas all applied for manually, the last one being a 5 year visa.

The problem is the section for her parents' who both passed away some time ago. It is asking as a compulsory requirement their dates of birth. She has never had this information and tells me that it would be impossible for her to obtain. What do we do? Surely they can't insist on this information if impossible to get and also why should it be relevant to the application when they have long since passed away.

When I applied for a visit visa for my wife via old website, the instructions were, that if you didn't know this information, then enter the date of birth as 01/01/1900.I've just completed an application on the new website, where this instruction is not given, and entered the dates as before, the application was accepted(on the website at least) so I assume this is still the way to do it

Thanks, she can work out the years of her parents births so will put 01/01/****.

I find the new online process a bit restrictive and possibly not clearly thought out properly in some parts. My wife is supported by myself as she will be on trips to the UK. She has significant amounts saved in various bank accounts as part of her own personal assets yet there is no option during the process to enter these details of savings, it just asks for monthly income from savings which of course today are miserably low with the interest earned and in general and in Thailand are not paid as monthly income.

In addition there is no option to enter my details of employment, income, savings, etc. I assume that they will accept these as supplementary documents for evidence in support of the application.
