  1. Is Hanuman on par with Buddha? Clearly not. But there's enough national symbolism whereby putting a ridiculous mask on him is disrespectful and a disgrace IMHO. No doubt the same idiotic thinking would put one on Buddha if they could get away with it.

Similar to the dolts at the New York, New York hotel/casino in Las Vegas, putting one on the Statue of Liberty, essentially stifling -- if not suffocating -- the symbol of freedom and free speech.

    Brainlessness is worldwide.

This piece of &@$? article just said the baht should get stronger when more tourists come at the end of the year!!  <deleted>!

Actually it said there'd be a "rebound" -- not the same as a stronger baht. What they're saying -- and I agree -- is the baht will have a technical bounce in the near-term (because of the obvious 2009/2015 lows) and it will be convenient to attribute it to tourism because of the timing. The "rebound" will be short-lived, however, as downward pressure kicks back in. This is their bigger concern.

The article is primarily looking at the long-term outlook and the 15-year support area being breached. Although the headline is a bit misguided -- the baht isn't at that level just yet, though quickly approaching it -- the concern is not.

IMHO, odds favor it WILL bust, then it's look out below!... 3-5yrs of weak baht and shi**y economy. Smaller odds the bounce will catch fire and things turn around. We'll find out soon enough.

  4. The logical and common sense thing would be to let people wear or don't wear, up to the individual.

BUT.... since they went the extreme one way -- to wear (by law/suggestion/et al) the facial diaper -- I fantasize they go the OTHER extreme and create a "law" and penalize anyone who DOES wear the thing -- only for a year or two -- just to normalize people's lives; then let the pendulum swing back to the middle.

Until I see the smiles of the Thais, there is no LOS.

    Pure and simple.

  5. "The move is part of the gradual easing of restrictions in an attempt to revive the country’s vital tourism sector, although the CCSA also decided to extend the enforcement of the emergency situation announcement for the 17th time, from April 1st until May 31st."

Are there any bigger oxymorons? They want to portray the tourism sector as sooooo vital (and it absolutely is), yet they just cannot tear themselves away from this "gradual easing of restrictions" complex they seem to have and are perfectly content to drag out this Comedy Show of Errors well into its third year... 17, 18... do I hear 19th time?
