  1. Please correct me if i am wrong but my understanding is that although many players still call you on , that The Royal an Anciant made a ruling that you should not call on at par 3s after someone was killed on the course .

I quite agree. It does not speed up play as it depends on whether carts are being used or not.

I have found that it seems to be the instructions that the caddies receive as they always want to allow the call hole.

It is a dangerous practice and am surprised nobody has been injured in Thailand. (maybe they have ! )

Like Thai and Korean drivers they have no patience to wait and it annoys me when they are standing on the tee of par 3's as if we should hurry our putts.

As for the Korean visitors , yes they have good golf swings and always play off back tees, but as the correspondant earlier suggests, they are far short of learning the etiquette of the game ( however this could apply to Farangs equally as I guess many of them have no official golf club membership in UK or elswhere ! )

  2. Hi Jack

My wife's family live in the Uttaradit district near the river.

The surrounding country side is very picturesque and peaceful EXCEPT FOR !!

(see my article in the forum under "The early am. tannoy system" !!)

The Queen Sirikit Dam is a nice place to visit and eat and there is a recent new golf course near there.

I will be building up there sometime in the near future.

It does seem everyone gets up by 6am but it is a nice time of day then and the people are hard working on the land.

  3. How many of you have been affected by the local tannoy systems situated on the telegraph posts in the Tambons ?

I have recently spent some time in the Muang Tambon in Uttaradit, the family home of my Thai wife.

At 6am every morning , starts with the excrutiating loud tannoy system of the broadcast of the chanting of the local monk, followed by the messages of the local "Poo Yai Baan" !!

The noise is so loud that nothing can block it out. and I have tried everything!! Any suggestions?

All the villagers have registered their protest but are afraid and timid to really have a go at the "Poo Yai Baan ". He listens ,smiles and shruggs his shoulders and then does nothing !!

The decibel registering must be double that to which the entertainment places in Pattaya and Bangkok are now being restricted to.

This early hour of mental torture ( I can now understand what the troops suffered in Burma to Lord Haw Haw from the Japanese ) affects me and the families and gives me doubts as to whether I will proceed there with a new house development.

Am I the only one to suffer? I would appeciate any comments as to how this can be toned down.

    :o

  4. Further to the reply from DRBones above ,I think he does a grave dis-service to the genuine Pharmacists in Thailand. There are many hard years of study and experience involved and when he walks into a drug store does he know if he is talking to the Pharmacist or the caretaker man ?

Surely he can see the many advantages of tightening up this lack of supervision in Thai Pharmacies and insuring many accidents and lack of knowledge about the drugs they are purchasing.

Having been in Pharmacy for over 40 years ,I can assure him there is considerably more in the profession than just counting tablets into bottles!!

  5. At last there is a tightening up of the conduct of the Pharmacies in Thailand.

I am a UK Pharmacist and have been visiting and staying in Thailand for 26 years.

The role of the pharmacist is one of the most responsible jobs in the community and rightly so the public should be protected and advised on all medicines.

How easy it is to buy prescription drugs in Thailand with no supervision or advice as to dangers and interactions. Is it any wonder there is a drug problem with young people.

More and more drugs are going from POM to P allowing UK Pharmacies to sell over the counter. The latest being Simvastatin 10mg for breaking down the low density cholesterol and helping those over 55 years to avoid Coronary Heart disease. For this there must be a lot of advise and questioning before the sale is made !

Are you all happy with the advise you get when you visit a Thai drug store and get sold potent drugs with no explanations, because the Pharmacist is not present!.

Good luck to this latest move by the Government and the Phamaceutical Council of Thailand. It is long over-due.

    UK Pharmacist.
