  1. Looking for a clarification. What is a Kah-teen? What is Bon Kuhn? Please excuse the spelling, I have only a verbal translation. Please excuse my ignorance. She is a good friend and tells me she must perform Bon Kuhn and (like a party?) provide a Kah-teen?

It all relates to her farang husband building a house in the village (for the entire family) and the recognition thereof. Any help re knowledge is appreciated.

  2. Yes, I could buy them in my country (USA) before I get there, but I love the SE Asia discount.

I posted also in General Topics. Anybody know where to get quality glasses? Laser surgery? Contacs? Looking for eye doctors. Either in BK or Rattanaburi, Surin. I do time in both localities. Please help. Thank you to anybody who can help.

  3. I have a friend who is from Surin and now lives and works in BK. She sells Isaan food for a living. ###### tasty (and spicy) food. Several months ago (6 months?) she referenced a cooking competition in Surin that she was involved with. It invoved Thai Jasmine Rice, as well as Som Thum Thai. Does anybody know anything about any such competition? From what I can understand (and translation is an issue) she did quite well, won a small cash prize and some local prestige. From what I can understand ITV was involved filming the contest.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

    :o

  4. Thomas, do you have merely an academic interest in pedophilia, or is it something in which you dabble from time to time? When attempting to support your "devil's advocate" position perhaps you should not use discredited sources such as Freud.

  5. I'M IN LOVE WITH BARGIRLS !!!

Oh, sorry, thought that was the only way to get people to respond thoughtfully. Another topic devolves into flaming and bitching.

As a citizen of the USA I can say that the "War on Drugs" does not work. Whenever a country declares war on its own citizens it can only harm the country. While I would never say that a heroin or coke dealer are exemplary role models neither would I comdemn them to death. Nor do I wish to see all distilleries or breweries shut down. Addressing the need is about the only way to come close to controlling addiction. Why do people get high? There are myriad, deep seated reasons. It is a problem far too complex to be "solved" by strangers on a chat forum, but, what the ######, I'll try anyway.

People get high because they are depressed, because they want a thrill, because their friends do, because they were told not to, because they are addicted chemically, because they are bored, because they are unemployed, because they are overemployed, because television, radio and print ads encourage them to do so. The reasons are as varied as the people on the planet.

Constantly in my country we are bombarded by advertisements that suggest in not so subtle ways that the way to feel better and be more productive is to pop a pill, preferably the pill being advertised so that Phizer or Bayer or Big Drug, Inc. can recoup the costs of Research and Development. Alchohol and tobacco kill far more people than any street drug, but they are regulated and taxed. As with most issues it boils down to money. Who has it, who wants it?

The prison population has nearly tripled in the USA since Ronald Reagan declared the "War". A large percentage of those incarcerated are in for petty drug offences. Are they better off in jail, in treatment, or in a free country which values their lives as worthwhile and meaningful? The messages sent by our respective governments as to the value of our lives go a long way in our decisions. When our fellow human beings echo these negative messages is it any wonder that many choose oblivion as a lifestyle? :o

  6. Nipples as big as her head. Tell me you love me and I'm a handsome man with a good heart and you too can join the gravy train. As long as you have dark brown skin and long black hair. Just don't tell my fiance, she'll serve my testes in a noodle soup.

Seriously, though, looking for a gym with weights to lift, and a pool with laps to swim. Massage parlor optional. Neither needs to be plush, merely open to the public. Do any of you beer guzzling experts... sorry, ex-pats, push away from the bar long enough to lift anything weightier than a 16 oz. pint?

Not sure what a bbbj is. In my country it's spelled bj. What do I get for the extra bb?

  7. D:

You can contact the Thai consulate in Los Angeles at (323) 962-9574 through 9577. They are available by phone from 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. Monday through Friday PST. The address is 611 Larchmont Boulevard, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, California 90004-1321. Mail them your passport with a Visa application and a photo. You can download an application from their website (http://www.thai-la.net). It will cost you $ 25 USD per entry and you can request a 90 day tourist Visa. It's best to mail it FedEx or some other provider such as this because you have accountability. You will need to include return postage. The processing time is approximately 10 business days. I'm sure there are other Thai consulates in the USA but this is the one I'm aware of. How do I know this? I dropped my passport in the mail two days ago with $75 USD and one photo. Good luck. A phone call is well worth the time. They are prompt, efficient and courteous. Wait time was less than one minute.

  8. Okay, my mistake, I know how to get responses here. My bargirl girlfriend wants me to work out with her when I am in BK. She's 17 years old and I send her

$ 1,000 USD every month. Her 15 year old friend wants in on the action so I send her an additional $ 1,000 USD as well. They are both from Isaan, where they have two Thai husbands each. But I'm in love and they both say I'm the only one. Anyone know where I can work out in BK?

  9. Anybody have any suggestions for swimming about two miles a day (no klongs or Khao Praya, please) and hitting the weight room 2-3 times a week? Hate to go to seed while in LOS. Thanks for any helpful hints. Price ? Location ? Will be mainly based in Muang Thong Thani but am willing to travel to get my fix.

  10. As a California resident (San Diego) for thirteen years I must admit to voting for Gray Davis and his energy efficient pals. However, the mess was not all his doing. He had much help from the rest of the yokels who sold their souls to Enron and others. Arnold is inheriting a mess and probably won't do much more to kill the Golden State than any other power hungry narcissist. The machine continues to chug forward, backward and sideways. My understanding is that he doesn't smoke dope anymore, Maria doesn't like the smell. Had to give that up when he stopped going down on fellow competitors in the backrooms of Mr. Olympia. At least he'll be good fodder for comedians. And outside of the former Governor "The Body" of Minnesota, who's going to back him down?
  11. Thanks to those who replied. Sounds cheaper than I imagined. On a non related topic, anybody been to Surin for the elephant roundup? The fiance is from there and wants very much to show me elephants. Any experiences? As I understand her we will be going to her village during the trip to the northeast.
  12. I am looking to purchase a computer, monitor and printer in Bangkok in December when I return to BKK from the US. I understand that bringing my PC with me is prohibitively expensive as to tax and duty.

Don't want to break the bank. Need to get something that the fiance's daughters can do home work with, surf the net at 56k, standard Microsoft Office package, fairly good processing speed .

Any ideas, suggestions, price ranges, places to shop, places to avoid ? Any good I-Net providers? Broadband? Monthly costs? Any information that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. Will be in Muang Thong Thani, if that makes a difference for I-Net provider. Thanks to all who care to respond.

  13. Again, thanks to all. I will check the resources suggested. Invaluable assistance and prompt at that. Looks like for now the massage is a no go (proposed shop was too expensive and not making much money) and the internet a better opportunity. It sounds like time is of the essence as to the proposed law changes.

I see two responses as to "police tax". One high, one low. Any experience with this? Is bar ownership a money maker or just a nice place to get loaded while in LOS? Neither one of us imbibe so that motivation is not there. More profits, less grain alchohol headaches.

Thanks again for the advice. Butterfly, you mention not making money. What, then, is the point of a business? Difficult to turn a profit or do the local lads in blue make it a point to reach into my pocket until such time as I am dry and bereft?

    Happily awaiting any new responses.

  14. I am a United States citizen, 39 years old. Planning to marry my Thai girlfriend who is 37. No, she is not an ex bar girl. She owns several small food shops in Bangkok. We want to purchase and operate a massage shop and/or internet cafe in Pattaya. What are my requirements to do so? Can I own a business outright, or must I own it in tandem with my future wife? Buy before or after marriage? Work permit requirements? Visa requirements? Capitalization and tax issues.  Web sites, consular addresses, war stories, etc. Key charges, rents, who to bribe, how much. Also, will ownership of a massage shop derail any plans we have for her to obtain a visa and eventually relocate to the US with me? Thank you to all who respond. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
