  1. Hi again! My visa is due to expire on the 23rd July, so plan to do a border run this week and get my final 90-day stamp.

My current Thai income is few thousand short of 40K per month. I also have a small UK rental income as well as another income of 10-12K Baht per month from China. Can this income from China be used to get the visa, or should I not declare this and just park 30-40K in a Thai bank for a couple of months? I'd rather not transfer UK money into a Thai bank account unless I can help it.

Your employer is referring to an extension of stay. As you are married you can extend your stay based on marriage or your job/WP.

You should, if you can, extend based on marriage. You can legally work. That way your permission to stay isn’t linked to your job and isn’t affected should you stop working.

You’d  need 400K in the bank, or an income of at least 40K pm if applying as married. Your Thai income can be used. Or a minimum income of 50K pm if applying as an employee.

There were no financial requirements for the O visa originally, are you therefore sure they are needed for the extension?

extend it on your non o if you can, i'm assuming you must be on over 50k a month. the company prefer most people to extend on working as they have a little control over you although it's no big deal if you were to leave them. just hassle getting a new visa and extension.

I don't earn 50k but with UK rental income I will be over 40k. This should be OK?

  4. Hi all.

I am currently on a multi-entry 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa, which was issued based on being married to a Thai. Since acquiring the visa, I have started work in LOS and have just received my WP. My employer would now like to extend my visa for a year based on me now having a WP, basically to stop the need for border runs. If I do this, would I remain on an O visa, and what situation would I be in visa-wise if my employment circumstances changed in the future?

    Many thanks!

  5. Got my passport and visa back today. Here's what I sent and what it cost:

    Sent

    Passport

    Application form

    Two photos

Copy of wife's passport (photo page and outside cover)

Copy of wife's ID card (both sides)

Copy of marriage cert (both sides)

    Self addressed envelope

No need for financial details, house book, child's birth cert etc...

    Costs

    Visa fee - £125

Post Office fee for postal order (Why you can't send a cheque I don't know) - £12

    Special delivery - £6.75

    Passport photos - £5

Return postage - £10 (some profit there for the embassy)

So all in all it cost £158.75. Better than a trip to London and took Three working days.

  6. Thanks for all the comments. Sounds like I need to save up 800 Baht and plan for a day out in some government office, with possibly a test or two thrown in. I will probably go with my wife too who also needs a licence and has a UK one too and can aid with translation.

I was planning on doing my UK bike licence before heading over, however we've decided to head over sooner so no time. I have rode a motor bike mainly around Chiang Mai for over two years but agree it would be nice to actually get some formal training. Experience on the road though is really what makes you safe or not.

  7. Yeh got a IDP from the Post Office last year when I came on holiday last year. I will try and apply for a cheeky bike and car licence too. TBH my licence has pics of bikes on the back and various codes, so I doubt a Thai official is going to look too closely into whether I am licenced in the UK or not! What is the cost for a two year licence?

I had never ridden or owned a motorbike before coming to Thailand. I gained my license on the second attempt. Didn't get enough questions correct first test. Riding test is a joke. Rode about 200 meters & the official wasn't watching. I'd guess most testing centers are the same.

Yes, once you have your license you can ride whatever you like.

I was 68 when I took the test.

    Cheers.

Yes, this will be me. So you failed the theory? Did you have to do it in Thai or something?

  9. Looking at a move to CM from the UK for a year or so and debating what to bring. Obviously we will look at maximizing baggage allowances, but is it cost effective to send a box or two via some courier/shipping service rather than buy a lot of stuff when we land? I am thinking things like children's toys, bits for the house etc, so perhaps a trunk sized box 30-40KG? Nothing too delicate or high value and would be happy to send a few weeks  before we land. What would be our options? Cheers

  10. Sounds pretty straight forward. Just to clarify my family live with me currently in the UK, are dual nationals and will be moving over with me at the same time. My daughter was born here also, but got a Thai birth cert and passport from the UK Embassy and I think she is also registered to the grandparents housebook along with my wife. Hope this is still a straight forward process? We want to spend time with family and friends before my daughter gets to school age.

  11. Hi all

I am looking into having 10-12 months in Thailand and plan to apply for a non-imm 'O' visa from London. Firstly, can you apply from this by post? Their website suggests this but the Hull Consulate said on the phone you can't. What supporting documents would I need to send and is there a minimum amount of savings required? My wife and daughter are Thai nationals. I plan to work when I get there, so I assume it will be OK to still apply for a work permit if offered one by an employer?

    Thanks

  12. Hey everyone,

Start a TEFL course on the 15th January, and could do with some work over the next few weeks, to stop me getting too bored!

I have done the whole Chiang Mai toursit thing before, and funds are a little low, so I though a few weeks work would be the best bet.

I know the money will be peanuts, but I will do almost anything! If anyone has any ideas, please reply to this thread, or give me a ring on 0899980163.

    Cheers

    Will

  13. Now then everyone!

I plan to move to Chiang Mai in December this year to live and hopefully get a job teaching English. I was wandering what the deal is with being paid, and do you need a special visa to work legally? Last time I visited I just got the 28 day stamp at the airport, but dont fancy doing a visa run every month, even if you can work without a proper working visa.

Also, can anyone recommend a good company to do my TEFL course with in Chiang Mai. Any advice would be greatfully recieved :o
