A base, that's too funny by far. If every foreign who resides in Thailand, upped sticks and took the contents of their bank accounts back to where ever they came from, the GBP hit would be about 3%. On the plus side, Immigration Dept could be downsized considerably because there'd be no more 90 day reporting or long term visa renewals, this of course would put many visa agents out of work which is also not a bad thing.
Can you explain why Immigration is thinking of 90 day visa on arrivals then.
Kick out Cheap retirees and replace them with what? The one coke and 5 straws Crowd.....

I wonder how this would work in practice. It could not be based on the number of days you spent in the country in the CURRENT year, right? Because if that were the case, one could transfer money into Thailand tax free during the first 179 days of the year because one can't spend more than 180 days in the country in less than 180 days.
So it would have to be based on whether you spent 180 days in the country in the PREVIOUS year. Or am I missing something? How do other people see this?
We are BLIND.

You think the strength of the Thai economy is governed by foreigners spending the entire year in Thailand? If so, you weren't paying attention in Thailand Economics 101.
Think Bud Light.
They had a BASE which they totally Pissed off . Instead they thought LGBTQ crowd would more than make up for them( think Indians......lol).

Limit people to 180 days . If over force them to File income taxes is a sure Winner to Boost tourism.
In my case 300 days to 180 day seems insane. I want to come and spend my money but im being told i come too MUT.
While they keep on trying to attract poor Indians.......weird this TAT.

That is important information. I know some people who might get same problem with their 180 days if this is how Revenue Dept count days.
From 300 day in Thailand to 180 days in my case. This is just going to Crater the Thai economy.

Me too, I pay the taxes on my pension here, this income does not add to other incomes that I have in my native country and I save money.
It is not rocket science, every year I go to the local Revenue Office with my data and they help me in filling online the form PND 91 (personal income tax return) that is in thai.Logistically this has no chance of working if Thai Tax form is in Thai.........................

You are the one that is kidding.
Thailand has many options regarding visas.
For 5/6 months stay you could obtain a METV.
This visa provides permit of 60 days which can be extended by 30.
For 6 month stay you could do ,
60 + 30 then spend a weekend in say Saigon where being UK you are visa exempt entry.
Reenter Thailand for another 90 days.
Sorry it's all so tough. Not.
Two back to back tourist visa might be Pushing it BRO.........Real Tourists dont do that................

It looks as if they have once again changed the requirements for the Non "O" single/multi entry 90 day over 50's visa. I started an application a couple of weeks ago & the only requirement I had to complete was insurance for the multi entry. I went to complete it yesterday & submit & find that the insurance requirement has been removed but they now require 65,000 baht per month or 800,000in a bank not stipulating whether it be Thai bank. Are you kidding me this is a temporary long term stay not a retirement stamp requisit. Any info' on this would be helpful if there is any....my situation is this - my wife & I have a condo in Chiang Mai we usually spend 5/6 months winter here not full time why would anyone want to comply with these financial requirements. If we take the 6 months multi tourist visa we will need to exit twice which I feel as a property owner is too much. I know of so many people who used to come to Thailand for Winter stays & for one reason & another do not come now do the Thais no longer want Westerners?
I get the Feeling they never did like Foreigners.
Remember the Dirty Farangs who introduced Covid.
The dirty Foreigners throw Trash and litter the beaches.
The dirty Foreigners cause Flooding.....im sure they think this.

Nothing new with the 180 days rule, it's been there all the time, so of course you shall already have registered for income tax, if your stay here more than 180 days during a calendar year...
The news thing is, that savings – which before were free of income tax when transferred into Thailand – might now be taxed...????
Has anyone filled out a Thai Tax return.?

In another thread OP wrote that he has stayed 10 months out of 12 in total, which is usually the time Immigration will start to tell you to have another visa. No time out of the country is frowned upon in my experience, and i strongly suggest you dont play with fire. Get another type of visa, stay out of the country for at least a month, or prepare to roll the dice.
That was my next inquiry. How long should i stay out between visits.
On the post you saw i was out for 6 days.

Even if you think you are doing everything correctly, you never really know, in Thailand, anymore.
I was under the impression reading here that if you get a tourist visa its EZ peasy. Its the visa on arrivals that were the Immigrations nemesis.
So much for that.

@Marky Mark Mark Curious why you think you would be denied, as do you have something on your 'Imm record' that might cause that ?
I doubt an airlines would board you if they thought you wouldn't be admitted, as then they would be responsible for providing your return transport.
i might be classified as a Professional Tourist.................lol.
Weird as i equal 5 tourist from the Land of Cola and straws. All the marketing expense trying to get lower income fellows in while those with Funds are being told you come too much.

Does it matter if you enter Swampy as opposed to Don Mueang.
I recall Don Mueang comes up more as unfriendly...........
Vietnam....i saw someone write out of 100 who visit as tourist only 5 would return.
Thailand... out of 100 who visit 100 want to return......see the issue.

To activate my 60 day tourist Visa i had to purch
ase a departure ticket on the spot. Reasoning was i stay Thailand too MUT.....lol.
In the last 12 months i have stayed in Thailand 10 months. 2 60 day tourist visa and the rest on visa on arrivals. Not once did i enter by land border. Twice i flew out of Thailand to SIN for a week before returning to Thailand to activate my 60 day visas.
Inquiring how i should do things in the furture he said to get a diiferent visa.................
