  1. Hi

Perhaps someone can give me some insight into this question please...

If one was buying a property in Thailand e.g. house with silent company ownership.

If the funds to purchase were outside Thailand and the owner/seller of the house was outside Thailand resident in the EU.

Does it make any difference if the payment was made outside Thailand e.g. from buyers bank account outside Thailand to sellers bank account outside Thailand in EU?

As opposed to doing the funds transfer within Thailand e.g. from buyers Thai bank account to sellers Thai bank account.

The purchase would be completed by doing a share transfer of thai company share from seller to the buyer.

I was wondering would it be stronger legally to do the funds transfer domestically within Thailand, as a bare minimum from the buyers Thai bank account to the sellers EU bank account, as opposed to doing the whole transaction outside of Thailand banks?

Any does it make any difference?

Thank you in advance for any info on this.

  2. Does anyone know what is the situation on accessing "down town" Pattaya areas tomorrow with the Pattaya Marathon on?

I have to go down near Big C North Pattaya 2nd road soi 3 soi 2 general area tomorrow morning coming from Soi Khao Talo area which means I have to cross Sukhumvit Road tomorrow morning which is on the route of the marathon.

I am wondering is the downtown area blocked off or what is the situation on getting down there?

What time will the road be clear at as I think the marathon starts at 4.oo am ?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  3. have any of you actually had to use KM in a real street fight? What happened?

Yes used KM more than once, and I still got my good looks.

But there was a problem in using Krav Maga on the street because I did karate/kickboxing since 1984 too (I'm a 4th dan too) and anytime I used Krav Maga I can never figure out did I actually knock the attacker out with a Krav Maga right cross or a kickboxing right cross?!?!!

OK I am joking and sort of not joking either on the bigger picture...

Point is this to sort of quote Bruce Lee who said something like " a punch is just a punch and a kick is just a kick "...

  4. I agree with Krav Maga being just thuggery

How much Krav Maga training have you done to come to the conclusion that " I agree with Krav Maga being just thuggery " ?

I've been to seminars in Spain and UK and have friends/associates that train in it.

So what is "thuggish" about Krav Maga then?

What we do at Krav Maga Pattaya is certainly not "thuggish". It is effective civilian orientated Krav Maga and we also work on modern versions of Fairbairn WWII type Combatives and lots of strategy, drills, and Reality self Defense training inspired by Geoff Thompson too.

I am a British Combat Association member instructor.

We may do full contact drills on occasion e.g. "Animal Day" drills, "milling" drills, full contact baton and knife defenses, but there is nothing "thuggish" about that type of training, it is good street savvy reality self defense training. (The full on stuff is consensual for those who want to do the harder training, beginners keep it light of course).

In fact your WT Sifu here in Pattaya is a knows Geoff Thompson well and translated his books into German. Your Sifu likes the Geoff Thompson approach too. ;-)

And I am a big fan of Wing Chun too, I like that "Blitz Defense" that GM Kanzspec created for a quick self defense solution. I think Blitz Defense and Krav Maga are very similar. It is all great stuff. Train and enjoy what you do! :-)

Krav Maga is nothing more than strikes, punches, knees, elbows, and come to think of it just about every other martial art is made of strikes, punches, kicks etc etc. There is nothing special about Krav Maga, it is just another way of training for street self defense.

To be honest, it is the "individual" and their combative mindset that will win on the street, not the style of martial art.

There are plenty of drills of training the way we do Krav Maga training here in Pattaya on youtube. All the stuff we do is focused on live contact application, e.g gear up and try it out with contact and speed. We do not overly focus on perfect "technique" , we train Krav Maga more in the idea of "hit the bad guy, first, fast, and escape"

Our training clips going back several years are on www.youtube.com/kravmagathailand

I am always interested in positive discussion on self defense, but not in slagging matches etc.

    Cheers

    Gerry

  5. I saw the batman clip and all the info on youtube (i think taken down for undue content)and all the info about this dude.

I hope he is guilty as there seems to be enough on him...

apparently the dude had "come to the attention of" and was arrested by the FBI over in Tokyo before...

  6. Thank you everyone for the wonderful tips and information.

He actually postponed last weeks lesson so we are doing lesson one tomorrow.

The common theme I have learned from this thread is to get my Korean student reading more and writing, with exercises from keeping a daily journal to writing business orientated exercises.

This certainly will be a growth opportunity for me as a teacher to expand my teaching skills because this side student needs are completely different from my usual P2 Homeroom teacher day job :-)

I will give it a shot tomorrow and and report back with feedback as to how he gets on.

    Thanks Again.

  7. Hi Guys,

Hopefully someone can give me a few ideas or tips on how to approach this task...

I have a Korean adult ESL student (on the side) who speaks good spoken English. He wants to improve his grammar and his ability to write in English. I am having my first session tomorrow evening with him, and we have spoken about what he wants to achieve.

I am a bit lost on how to go about teaching him i.e. "improve grammar and written English".

His spoken English is very good so any ideas on how to approach teaching this level of ESL Student?

All ideas will be gratefully appreciated and thank you in advance for any advice from experienced ESL Teachers who have worked with similar cases. :-)

One idea I have myself... my other half who speaks reasonable spoken English she is taking ESL lessons (level 8 in AUA)so perhaps on idea is to use her text books and the exercises in them for the guy I am to teach.

    Any more ideas guys?

    Thanks

    Gerry

  8. Does Pattaya have any Judo clubs at all?

I live in Pattaya and train/instruct self defense related martial arts, however for personal interest I always fancied learning Judo and if anyone knows of any Judo in Pattaya please let me know.

I am not really interested in things like BJJ or MMA and definitely not interested in Aikido (despite the cross over & occasional similar ground skills etc) it is Kodokan Judo that interests me.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

  9. Pattaya has a nice Jogging / Exercise Park up on Pratnak Hill.. just around the corner up the hill from

    the Tourist Police Station.

I see a lot of people running up in that park approx 6.00pm.

the Pratanak Hill Park also got exercise stations along the jogging route. no motorbikes, very nice little park.

It is a bit far from me on Soi Khao Noi so I jog up and down a 400+ meter straight stretch of Road just off Soi Khao Noi which is relatively traffic free and safe enough in the dark too (if you keep your wits about you) if you job on the side with street lights.

check out that exercise park on Pratanak Hill...

  10. Good Thanks, I will try that little game KhaoDam suggests in the latter 30 mins of the 60 min period.

In thinking of what to do one way around the topic of "Past Continuous" (or any topic) is to "back" the grammar topic into a more exciting topic. e.g. use a more exciting topic such as "Shopping" in the context of "Past Continuous" and that allows me to teach several new & useful Vocab words and then angle any White Board Fill The Blanks to the

    "Past Continuous".

I am lucky in that I got 6 periods of the one topic so I find that by period 3 usually I have the pitfall figured out and can amend the lesson plan to what works better.

Really I would like do up about 300 double side hand outs but since the government schools I am in do not provide copy or print facilities and obviously expenses are not covered re the pay levels, it rules out me doing 300+ hand outs myself which is a pity as I could do a dam_n great class with this simple but effective teaching method. :-(

Getting the students to try with role plays or games is another challenge of a very different nature - i.e. getting participation is like pulling teeth!

I just found this very simple basic lesson plan for Past Continuous i.e. the role plays are very simple to do e.g. student acts out "She was feeling bored"

See the link this is good stuff

    http://www.tefl.net/alexcase/worksheets/grammar/past-tenses/feelings-past-cont/

I like to have a variety of back up plans with me so I can switch fast mid class if anything on my main lesson plan crashes and burns.

  11. Past Continuous Activities needed for teaching M2 in Gov School. Help!

    Hi Everyone,

I am hoping some of you experienced teachers can give me some urgent help with ideas or activities for me because tomorrow I got to teach 6 periods to M2 on "Past Continuous" tomorrow in a government school.

To set the scene, I got 6 classes back to back tomorrow of approx 40 - 50 teens in each group. As most of you know it is in a government school meaning the only teaching aid/resource is the White Board and unfortunately there are no facilities on site nor costs covered to do approx 300+ exercise hand outs.

I find with the M2 level a handful of kids got good English right through to those with minimal English and there is a high percent of kids who have no desire to listen to "Farang" preferring to chatter with this classroom friends.

My point is due to these factors the games & activities I find online on ESL websites for "Past Continuous" would crash and burn into bedlam with the rowdy bunch I got. LOL!

A few "fill in the blanks" sentences on the Whiteboard work great for a 10 minutes filler and aside from my already prepared "fill in the blanks" on the whiteboard exercise...I am terribly stuck for ideas...

If anyone got any suitable suggestions (considering the environment of gov schools) that might work for me, I would be very grateful and very thankful.

    Kindest Regards

    Gerry

  12. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Pattaya with a real Brazilian BJJ instructor from Gracie Barra at Pattaya Kombat Muay Thai MMA Gym

Kombat Muay Thai Pattaya got various class on BJJ/MMA such as bjj class & ground n' pound class.

Google for Kombat Pattaya Muay Thai MMA & you will find more info online - they also got Krav Maga Thailand Pattaya there too..

  13. Col. Chiam Peers (sp?) thats who the Colonel is, re Major or Col. question about Kapap.

Ahhh... Krav Maga, Kapap, Lothar, Israeli MA, Imi ItcyBallsFeld - all that was ripped off from Col. W.E. Fairbarins Combatives mainly WWII versions,

including the Point Shooting CQB. I am not knocking any system, a punch is a punch, it is HOW you train them, not WHAT you train.

I think the they should, like an author writing a book, quote their references, and give credit where credit is over due - W.E. Fairbairns work.

Geoff Thompsons UKs early 1990s pioneer to bring real street fighting reality self defense to the public, work is superior for Civilian use.

Special Forces etc great - and I am not saying, some could not do this, but usually they got back up teams all over the place, choppers in air, extraction teams.

Send a few Israelis dressed in Celtic Soccer T Shirts into a Glasgow Rangers Pub near IBROX close to The 12th of July and see how well they can hand to hand fight their way out

(no guns, no back up teams, no "johnnies" to be used -google "johnnie" if ya not know what means)

Just 2 or 3 of them in Celtic Kit Tricolors and into pub while Rangers fans singing "Sash me Father Wore"

and if they scrapped their way out, regardless of inevitable beating , to front door of pub .. great! (Rangers lads can invite then back in for a pint).

LOL! Had similar fun experience in the Ibrox Bar in Tennerief in Playa De Americanos resort, and same same in Linikers Bar Tennierief down other end of Veronics.

All a good bit of fun, lad being lads and a very good test of your street martial arts self defense. ;-)

That is the best Street Self Defense training experience you can have, aside from a bit of door work, and the real door experience

comes. on night off or when you quit bouncing years later some psycho you refused to venue, remembers you, and decides to avenge this with

full on coked booze fulled pint glass attack, before you can say... BOO! ... just bite the nose... never fails after a finger whip to the eyes :) )

They were was all ripped off from the much more efficient lethal fighting system developed

    by W.E. Fairbarin & colleagues ( Sykes, O'Neill,) in Shanghai Police before & during 1920a - 30s

and in 1920s US Marine Corp. division stationed near Shanghai were trained in Hand to Hand Combatives

by Fairbairn, one marine named Charlie Nelson was Combat Instructor US Marines years before WWII,

& he fought in SE Asia in WWII, later open 1st ever Reality Self Defense School in New York.

WWII US Military Col. Rex Applegate was trained by Fairbairn & Fairbairns methods with

much variation between different Syllabus depending on function & mission of Allied Unit.

e.g. S.O.E. (Special Operations Executive agents worked undercover in Nazi occupied Europe and also SOE operated in Thailand in WWII undercover)

were trained in Hand to Hand Combat or "Silent Killing" (due to use of Fairbairn Sykes Knife - it got name "Silent Killing".

S.O.E. were taught a very different hand to hand combat strategy & syllabus as compared to the Joint USA - Canadian Allied Commando "Red Devils" (I think name?) Fairbairns colleague O'Neill taught this Commando division & syllabus of Hand to Hand Combatives was very different due to operational function and type of fighting their mission entailed.

I got a very interesting written in 1978 PDF you can download here with the Syllabus Fairbairn taught the S.O.E. 1942 - 1943

in Scotland where their then training center was classified top secret.

Here is Link scroll down webpage 3rd paragraph for PDF -> Silent Killing Hand to Hand Combat British Commando Fairbairns Combatives Article

Read the above Silent Killing Article it gives you the full details and modules 1 - 6 and training program the British Commandos WWII and SOE agents

got from W.E. Fairbairn in 1942 - 1943. Credit should be give to all those brave people men & women who died, as opposed to breast beating for

a fighting system that was ripped off, from our own forefathers. O'Neill was from Cork in Ireland, so Paddy connection their.

I think a mockery is being made of the WWII Allies Fighters by certain countries stealing claim for inventing the 1st ever military hand to hand combat system.

And no offence to them, just give credit to who REALLY founded the 1st ever military hand to hand combat system - W.E. Fairbairn..

  14. Hi Guys,

This past year or more, I have been doing heavy reading & study on using "Internet Marketing" either to

market actual "bricks n mortar" (Clicks n Mortar) business & also to market & promote online only almost "automated"

"info product" e.g. marketing & selling online your own self authored e-book (Digital Download product or indeed affiliate for others stuff),

Instructional How to DVD, etc etc.

I am not technical nor do I enjoy technical stuff! I find it a long hard up hill climb to absorb & "get it".

Its almost 18 months of sadistic self punishment, I have been reading & learning & doing some minor online

stuff. OK the GURU's of "internet marketing" most say "OUTSOURCE" pay some Indian via online outsourcing website

to do all your work for you - well if you got no budget, & times hard that rules out Outsourcing..

but if you do not understand even the basic process or concept of the Job you Outsource...

Well You are a Sitting Duck to Be Screwed or You will never know it the outsourced job was done fully or correctly?

i.e. back in late 1999 to early 2000s when I had a small but v profitable IT Recruitment Agency in Dublin, &

just left the one of the biggest UK/EU IT Rec firms where I was top biller to go out on my own (and a bit cocky.. lesson learned)

We outsourced our Online Web Development & Marketing to an Irish firm... from design to SEO, & they sold us all the bells & whistles

not need, & where charging 1000s euro (or Irish punt back then) a year for Search Engine Optimization SEO...

today I understand the basics of SEO & indeed simple free "organic SEO" I look back on archive.org at old versions website for

that little IT Recruitment biz, & I can see the Web Design SEO firm did Minimal to Zero SEO & robbing every client.

(as probably all the other Web Dev SEO companies back then did too, screwed firms, big firms who knew F All so outsourced

of 100,000s Euro. Of course back then, if you did not have a "Flash Intro" animation before your web site opened your company was behind the time.)

So I decided, as I got a few future projects in mind for the mid term when global economy improves re online & "clicks n mortar" biz

I pushing myself to learn or at least understand as much of the basic essentials & systems of most sectors of this whole "Online Internet Marketing e-commerce, & now the ultra modern Social Media Marketing Web 2.0 way of marketing, which FACEBOOK is part

of & is TWITTER, LINKEDIN & a list of others, youtube, podcasts, blogging, Social Booking, etc etc etc)

There is so much Conflicting Advice from those who are reputable world famous Internet Marketing "Gurus"

who are real with good reputations & established proven track records, & then I also read the stuff from new comers

& of course read & even bought software in my innocence from Scam Artists whose "magic pill" software is

just Spam stuff, & luckily my lack of techie skill stopped me using it.... & later I discover this in my studies.. (would have got me domains

blacklisted etc..). I am now at the stage where after 18 months of study, & many wrong turns I understand the basics , I understand the Gurus with opposing business models, all are correct, it is just different ways of getting to profit, and which "method" depends on your personality.

( Marlon Saunder's says it is good for beginners to sweat it out as I have down, he is a No BS IM guru)

OK.... so I just have got to the stage where much has "Clicked" into place in my mind, & I would be 80% odds in

my favor after 1 year + headache learning Internet & Web basics, it would be V Difficult for a Professional to

"pull the wool over my eyes" or as happen 1000s business & most probably do not have a clue, we all were ripped

for fortunes by many Web Marketing SEO firms. l, if it comes to Outsourcing or hiring Professionals for tiny online side biz

or much larger mid term concepts I have.

    FACEBOOK...

FaceBook & Twitter & all the other Web 2.0 Social Media Marketing (pain in butt a lot of the time) online services,

the whole concept of these sites, is you over long period of time, build up a network or fan base of "followers" or

"friends" (let us exclude family & friends non biz related people from this), of people who share a similar interest

so my FaceBook profile is mainly towards the Martial Arts Self Defense Krav Maga interested people (and some Internet Marketing sector too)

and you aim to be "Friends" with the Movers & Shakers the Gurus, (so people will befriend you based on that connection) and

also your own customers or prospects you invite to become Friends...

You give them a lot of free info, advice, tips, discussion, on your "niche" in a informal way, friendly, funny even,

etc.. with view to building over time a big following of contacts who "Trust" you based on relationship on FaceBook.

Then since your offering free info, e.g. posting say a newspaper article online you found with good info on your sector of business,

sharing ideas, you can on occasion, talk about how you had a tough day trying to concentrate on working your newest project

e.g the "new ebook on Blah blah blah and Oh I will have a DVD out too", so Your warming up your "Following" Slow Slow Sabai Sabai

& not full on hard sell of your product...

    So Ads on FaceBook...

Well, its not really a site people go to to do "online shopping".

Think right now immediate!! - > What is first 2 websites you can think of that people go to to shop online?

Immediate EBAY (I hate the b*stards) and AMAZON come into my head....

people go on there especially amazon to spend cash, ebay the punter bargain hunts flea market style a bit as opposed to Amazon.

FaceBook Ads... since the "model" of FaceBook is relationships based, unless your prospect or customers you

are trying to Sell the Product you were Advertising, unless you got them all as Friends on Facebook, where

you must you front & first be a "Giver" of useful on the house info over a medium term & are known to your

FaceBook Friends & Interacting with them, & replying to their posts etc etc....

the Direct Response Advertising method is not going to work very well (Direct Response Gods e.g. Dan Kennedy, Jay Abraham, Billy Bly etc)

Now I only "Got it" re what I write a few months back, as I too had put Ads on Facebook & paid for them & got no response at all.

(That was 2 years back, & I had minimal contacts back then & no one knew me, Now I got 300 ish Friends, with 50% niche related).

I "Got It" as I this other Web 2.0 Micro Blog TWITTER thing, I was almost ready to throw myself into the sea with an anchor

around my neck, for I could just not understand what the hel_l Twitter was for... (there is a lot of "noise" posts on Twitter)

So I asked an Internet Marketing Guru who only learn what email was at 50 years old, & was a Blues Guitar player all this life,

until he via chance meeting, a guy a famous author & internet marketer called Joe Vitale see his site & blog MrFire.com

who wanted blues guitar lessons, long story short.... Joe Vitale taught this man the Online Internet Biz, & he now is

pulling in high 6 figures a year himself online..

He explained to me on his forum, all of the above, re TWITTER, & he told me 80% of his Seminars in USA on Internet Business & Success

he fills, as in tickets sold, because over time he built up a long term following, on FaceBook which is Now linked to TWITTER..

This caused everything my reading & the info on Pats forum all free via the Web 2.0 FaceBook & Twitter thing to "Click" with me,

the How to & the What Not to Do...

This is a long post for sure, it took me since I am nearly 3 years on FaceBook and advertised both B2b Service business, self defense lessons,

krav maga thailand seminars, ebooks I wrote on Anthony Robbins - Tony Robbins the Success Guru, all paid ads on Facebook and got about 3

leads total from all combined, useless leads from the paid facebook advertising..

If you understand it, & again I do not like it, as I entrusted a former "friend" to run a Google Adwords campaign

for me, & he did know web biz to a decent level, & got coaching calls directly from Perry Marshall an Adwords Guru,

yet he ran me up 1000s & 1000s Euro of Debt, again... I outsourced something I did not understand, been a contact

of this dude for a few years, did not stop a balls being made of the work. (Back then Adwords billing kicked in a bit

slower &, so damage was done, by time approx 2 months later charges hit & my accountant back in Eire was called me asking what the <deleted> I was doing with Google. LOL in hindsight!

9 million - 1 million Alexa.com Global Ranking - How using basic free methods my website took 8 Million global traffic jump in 5 months...

Me via a few methods I just understand to a basic level of free SEO I brought my hobby & "guinea pig" test it out website KravMagaThailand.com

where I experimented the stuff I was reading & learning for 18 months, just a few methods roughly done in a beginners fumbling way

I took my crappy design I did myself (for testing & learning) kravmagathailand.com from web traffic global alexa.com rank

which in January 2009 was over 9 million to in June where it averaged 1 million alexa.com global traffic rank in June 09 with 12 mins average time visitor spent my site, (highest ranked day was 750,000 via alexa.com in late June 09).... and that was me putting in a hour or so most days beginners badly done several SEO Internet Marketing methods which cost me not a penny only the time.... very simple stuff.

Then July just to see, I stopping doing 90% of the SEO methods & October 09, kravmagathailand.com actually v bottom of home page

scroll to very bottom left hand corner is an Alexa.com button & I am down to a 3 million global ranking... which is good! WHY?

Because it proves to me what I was doing 3 out of a list of 8 basic things, I just focused on 3 free SEO methods... what I did was working.

Ok my site is not a money making site, it is for our krav maga self defense club me hobby here in pattaya,

so imagine when I use the same methods, on a proper good looking design wise with good SEO google friendly design, & I use all 8 methods & there is much more add, I am sure I will make a few quid ;-)

Where did I learn about the Social Media FACEBOOK TWITTER & Other stuff from a v successful 1 man band Internet Biz guy?

his forum is free, it got great info, check out PatOBryan.com patobryan.com/blog & forum is off Milargoworld.com

    I think it is milargoworld.com/forum

Perhaps the Web Internet Marketing which most of us are sitting ducks to be fed a line of BS on why we need buy whatever new Web thing come out... think of it like was it Warren Buffet said about Stock Market Investing...

Do Not Invest Money You Cannot Afford to Loose (Ok thats a no brainer & I don't think that was Warren Buffet, thats centuries old wisdom) BUT

DO NOT Invest Your Money in Shares in Companies or Industries that You do not understand!!

Great advice, & via my own experiences of internet failure, ripped off, learning to headache level, testing & little success,

I would apply the same LAW to any Business Marketing (that costs money) On the Web be it FaceBook, Adwords, etc etc.

If it is free method of traffic generation like "article writing" yeah, do it on your free time, test it out...

I can see some of the Gurus of the Web, starting this past few months, to talk a lot in their Blogs

and Newsletters about the Direct Response Advertising methods (which go back to 19th Century) the

likes of Dan Kennedy, Jay Abraham, David Olgivy who founded the worldwide advertising agency al used.

They are applying the old skool worked for last 150 years stuff & dressing it up for the web... ;-)

Or in Addition to the web... hint... I can see online marketers asking for your fax or postal address

in return for a freebie DVD etc... wonder why? :-)

  15. Hi Guys

Dell Notebook Wireless Internet Connection WiFi & Cable connection to Internet has naturally died for

no reason, and my home modem is fine as PC on cable & nokia mobile e90 wifi internet web surfing is

working perfect. So Dell Inspirion 6000 notebook the problem of why no internet connect wifi or cable

must be inside the dell? (I think I got it web surfing on Dell working using AIS 1-2 call internet via

Nokia E90 as modem, but that is not Wifi Broadband speed, it just GPRS speed or whatever AIS works

off... not fast enough for watching rock videos on YouTube!)

Intel Pro Wireless is built-In WiFi main application main wifi controller & some other Broadcom somthing - sorry I am a Techno Phobe Builtin Stopped Working and I tried to use the Windows XP build in Wifi thing & followed all the troubleshooting, (disabled Intel Pro Wirless etc - re-enabled it etc etc) I can see my Modem Wifi access point in Intel Wifi controller & WEP 10 figure code is correct,

etc... so my instruction & troubleshooter on Windows solved nothing.

**Important Cable to internet modem from Dell Notebook does not work either, I think the Broadcom controller is for that? the Dell Inspriation 6000 Notebook WILL NOT connect to the web internet either from Wifi nor from modem & odd thing

is it was working perfect & then next day all died. (I do reboot, use Glary Soft 1 click, & DeFraggler & turn NoteBook off when I

am not using i. Now the hard discs are full ish C drive got about 35% & D Drive about 9%, & I do not work the "B*ll*cks out of

the Dell Inspirion 6000 laptap as I bought it in December 2005, it has been reconditioned twice, but I accept it is a "pensioner"

    or is it?

My main Modem works fine as PC works off cable & Mobile phone Nokia E90 Wifi gets internet perfect off the Netgear modem & notebook MCN number I logged into Netgear Modem, so Dell Notebook is a recognized device.

I went on NoteBook to Device Hardware Manager & I Notice there is a YELLOW QUESTION MARK or Exclamation Mark at PCI MODEM which obviously means there some sort of problem with PCI Modem if that is correct term for Device I am using

Perhaps my PC DIY trying to learn to fix this myself, & being not too technical by nature, I suspected I "Fecked Up"

something making a worse problem, even though the Dell NoteBooks internet web Wifi & Cable connectivity Died over night.

I am of an uneducated guesstimate & praying (LOL) that there is some simple solution to this strange

death of internet (and it was NOT caused my me poking around either).

I know its a bit more complicated that a Level 1 Support Call... have you the power plugged in, can you reboot,

unplug & replug the mouse, defrag the disc, thing... so I am hoping someone who is IT Computer Savvy

on here end my evenings frustration. & say Gerry.. .just do A B C 1 2 4 reboot and Magic Fix happens!

I rather have tooth pulled with no anesthetic, than bring Dell to Tucom as in fixing down there, I always

who does a great job, as notebook is not for business use no more. (I just want to surf the web

I wonder since I got web internet connection on Dell notebook via Nokia E90 AIS 1-2 Internet (Gprs ?) as

modem for notebook.... since Nokia E90 works great for Wifi... is there any WAY I can use the

Nokia E90 as a WIFI modem feeding off my Netgear main Wifi modem to get Wifi broadband speed

    this way on Dell notebook?

I read & search with my limited IT skills in Nokia E90 Manual & Online Nokia site for an answer to

this question but I could not find anything to explain if I can do this or not?

    Any ideas please?

Thanks in advance for all help.

(Notebook is also overheating a lot & battery which is original from Dell in Dublin even with 24 hour charging, lasts only 15 mins.

I ready the other Thread on chap with notebook battery problem, which maybe is a separate issue to why No More Internet Connection on dell... & I will get battery issue fixed)

Yellow Exclamation in the device managermean that the driver is not corrupted or not installed. Try using System restore function to get bask to the date before the problems started. Using XP? I doubted that the the built-in LAN card and WIFI card went bad at the same time.

Sorry too fast, I mean the drivers for the devices are corrupted or not installed.

I had a suspicion in my after natural death of internet connectivity, that my DIY poking about,

I fecked up drivers, (see when net works, I can go to Irish Dell website, out in Serial number

& it updates drivers, but know there is no DRIVER for that PCI Modem on my notebook,

as I did driver roll back & it found nothing for a Driver.

(I think whatever I was at, I did more damage on DIY making original "natural death" problem worse... )

    QUES: SYSTEM RESTORE....

I think I might have deleted System Restore points in my trying to free up disc space.

QUESTION IS.... If I do in theory... a SYSTEM RESTORE to day 3 months ago...

will I loose files & data I have transferred to the Dell NoteBook since the System Restore Date.

Since I am using notebook for rock videos I download, eBooks, & leisure web surfing, (and my external hard disc is full)

If I SYSTEM RESTORE to say e,g, May 2009 will I lose all the Motorhead , Lizzy & Iron Maiden real player downloads etc

I have transferred to notebook and all other files PDF eBooks on martial arts ( I got 100s etc), uploaded in time

    since Last RESTORE POINT?

I suppose another solution is load up the AIS 1-2 call 50 Baht 24 hour internet access GPRS Deal

& use Nokia E90 mobile phone as dial up modem, access Dell.ie Ireland web site, bang in notebooks id numbers

    & download the drivers?

Probably will take a long time, but is using mobile as modem on Gprs workable for driver download?

I'd really hate to loose my rock vids, as I just reorganised playlists & hours of work on notebook the other day

re rolling back to SYSTEM RESTORE POINT?

Thanks for the help folks, apologies re long posts but I feel the more info provided upfront,

it will cut down on my potential stupid question factor,

    Thanks again! :-)

Any more feedback re OP & Reply.

    God Bless

I rather have tooth pulled with no anesthetic, than bring Dell to Tucom as in fixing down there, I always

return to find they broke something else. And notebook is too old to bring down to Steve on 3rd Road,

who does a great job, as notebook is not for business use no more. (I just want to surf the web

  17. Try GMAC in Bangkok I think web portal Gmac owns martialarts.in.th

or just google Gmac Gym Bangkok & you will find the martial arts supplies Gmac

    web site gmac gear shop.

Email "Tavey" he is the boss & a top great guy to do business with,

I bought a lot of martial arts gear off him, & he is very good to deal with,

good price, & I think if you do not see a Wing Chun (or WT - apologies! lol)

Dummy, email or call as he might be able to get you a Wooden Dummy on order.

(His Martial arts Gmac school got a Wing Chun class, so good reason to try gmac).

Another reason if have to be specially imported (assuming) you are better off

going through an established (Thai) martial arts import & export company who

Knows the ropes (and the lads), as I ordered in myself my TNT rubber training

knives, & had to pay a sizeable (unofficial) amount, as "the lads" figured my

krav maga training knives were made of "dangerous toxic plastic" ahem....

and "fee" was an EU countries trade unionized workers weeks wages level.

    Hope that helps!

Then again... Another WOODEN DUMMY idea is buy a plan or Blueprint,

& get one made locally! there for no importation, shipping or other issues! ;-)

I got KRAV MAGA TRAINING LONG GUNs which the Blue Gun versions costs fortunes,

made to an acceptable standard for training regular class for a few 1000 B in Pattaya.

(ok, if your training the FBI, you might need the proper "Blue Guns" which are balanced

& weighted exactly, got professional level training, but since Krav Maga Pattaya Self Defense

class in only 170 B a class, the wooden krav maga training guns do fine! in addition

    to our 2 rubber AK-47s! LOL! :-) )

I am going to get anything like this I need again, made locally, ala Rubber Training Knives,

etc I am sure, there is plenty of local workshops that can mould stuff like this low cost & easy.

    Hope that Helps

  18. Please forgive me if my suggestion here is too "basic" as I am not a Techie at all.

I live in Pattaya & used to be up in Bangkok several times month, then I was running B2B services

biz into Dublin. Meaning, All clients whom I supplied IT guys in were all in Dublin, (since 98% if work

was for years over Phone & Email, I never bothered telling anyone I moved to Thailand, so in theory

I was sitting in Dublin 9 - 5pm GMT office hours too, meaning Thai time 4pm - 11pm approx Mon - Fri

I had to be on the VOIP Phone or Skype & email most of the evenings.

I had terrible problems at various times over past 3 years, with all sorts of internet 3rd world issues,

& other Acts of God, such as 2 years back undersea cable breaking outing pattaya for close to 1 month

or another time, some petty thief stole a few 100 m of Telecoms cable from a road in Pattaya, all ISPs

shared the cable, & TOT (I think) were "out of stock" of the cable, & some sort of industrial strike was on

too.... another month no net in my end of pattaya.... So I feel your Pain.

Solution... I ALWAYS found this 8/10 minimum was a great back up... & it is bloody too obvious.

I would head to STARBUCKs either in PATTAYA or BKK buy a many hours Wifi card, bring my

NoteBook which is not the fastest either, & operate with my Headset, nearly always perfect VOIP

call quality from any Starbucks I used, even with my Dublin based VOIP supplier meaning, my voice

had double the journey to make since Servers were in Dublin, as opposed to say Dee Dial which I think

are voip optomized thailand based, or even skype. (Voipbuster was good too). JAH JAH from the mobile ok.

I would have MS Outlook open, a ASP Database web based I used online (servers in USA) & Explore too,

so heavy work load on me laptop (necessary re work) & from STARBUCKs quality was great...

and that was 2 years ago. ( as I am not in the biz now, so 2 years later might I guess Technology

should be better in WIFI zones like Starbucks?

I used to find the Lobby Bar in the Ambassador Hotel (you have to buy Wifi Card of course) to be

good to work from as 4pm - 930pm (before band came on) there would be no one in the bar area,

& I could work away, Again quality back then on WIFI in that hotel (lobby bar - the rooms which used

to have Wifi did not then, re upgrade ).

I stayed in a few apartment suite hotels BKK too, with cable internet, pitch was "corporate" power internet,

but it was so bad in some, took hour to download 30 emails...

Starbucks Wifi... BKK & Pattaya never failed me.

I apparently in CAT Telecom office in Pattaya on 3rd road at Pattaya Tai intersection

there is Wifi in there too (have to pay) but I hear quality is good.

Might be some ideas for you?

I also was using DeeDial or DeeCall bother same company Swaadee Shop... & you can get

think pay as you go is DeeDial card in Familymart, which from Thai mobile can make calls

v cheap & excellent quality to Ireland (which is v expensive to call from a Thai mobile compared to UK).

As I mentioned, DeeDial is supposed to be only "proper" VOIP co in Thailand under Western management

with their own servers in Thailand configured for optimal VOIP (and I think gateway too)...

either way, if I am correct on that point or not... I found them an excellent back up for biz use,

& Jah Jah (I think jahjah.com or similar) I had back up with too, but I never really used them much,

nor got hang of Jah Jah for calls, I do remember they had in interesting service offering slightly different

    from Skype etc...

That cover me for outbound calls & as I said WIfi in Starbucks 8/10 probably 9/10 times was perfect,

when home office net was acting up.

Though chain drink black Americano coffee from 4pm - 11pm does have its effects!

I hope that helps you a bit, as I was in that crap position myself, & as a non techie took me

along of asking on here & other places, to learn about the other options & how to maximize them.

  19. Jesus LOL! I just answer my own post! Internet TOT is running slow, so I did not see me Avatar Photo on OP

    until I posted answer...

Well there is the answer to the story....

Yeah, someone in BKK told me months back they saw one in BKK, but

I have since revised my opinions on blowing money on nice to have gear.

Focus mits, kick shields, punch bags, & 16 oz gloves for a decent self defense related spar

& 1000s hours training is the answer!

  20. Hi

Approx 2 years max, back, I got on to CENTUAY Martial Arts the big USA gear supplier who have

been around decades, & also have ads in Black Belt Mag, & all the major Martial Arts Mags, so I

figured based based on their size & volume if sales, & a bit of "haggling" done with Irish charm (works well on the Yanks)

I got on personally to a mid - snr manager, in Century Martial Arts in USA about getting a BOB DUMMY.

I was aware of the pricing, & since I wanted the largest size, which has the largest heaviest bases,

(which standard you fill with water. though I am sure if your sure the BOB will be in same gym for

long time, you could fill the base tank with sand, or concrete mix, to minimize BOB jumping around

from heavy Combatives strikes. Normally even the heavy duty ones, you need a training partner,

holding the base down. see end of video clip of Carl Cestari Combatives Video Krav Maga Thailand You Tube for example

on http://youtube.com/kravmagathailand to see the BOB jumping about)

Century got back to me a few days later, BOB Heavy Duty (or whatever that version is called)

list price was $600 approx which is expensive, though I was not ruling it out.

The Only way they could ship & only to Bangkok was with FEDEX (cheapest option too) meaning I

could have to truck it down to Pattaya, & also any thai style "customs clearance" :)

The Freight cost from Century to BKK was close to $700 (and of course, factor in "customs clearence",

annoyance of trekking to BKK Depot to get BOB, etc).

It just was too expensive to justify...

Personally I think, the light weight BOBs or SPAR PRO I think is another brand, would be

a total frustration, & annoyance, (unless you have training partner hold it), but for SOLO training

the light BOBs me thinks move about way to much.

LOOK... if it is for self defense strikes, there was no BOBs back when W.E. Fairbairn & colleagues

invented Reality Based Self Defense "Combatives" which today the BOB is a very popular training nicety

in the Combatives street self defence martial arts etc...

There was no BOBs back when Fairbarin was training Special Ops Exe & OSS Agents for undercover work

in Occupied Europe, where many HAD to use Combatives hand to hand combat, do or die.

I have the WWII Train the Trainer Manual from Faribarin, & they used large punch bags, a low cost thing today

or a Dummy home made. Strawman Dummy they called it, get a Boiler Suit & stuff with straw & rags to resemble

Human form & hung with rope to each limb & other ways, in sort of a door frame.

Its hard training makes the fighter, not the gear. ;-)

I guess if you went through some of the more underground Reality Based Self Defense Combatives forums

on the web, you will find or post a thread, on how to do a home made BOB or other gear, some lads will

send your amazing innovative plans, with photos on how to construct your own kit..

    Hope That Helps

    Cheers

    Gerry

  21. Hi

Best thing to do, is send us an email which you will find on kravmagathailand web site which ( if you put a d0t com) after it)

will bring you to main website. (site is not updated, making a few bigger changed, but lots of stuff going on, this coming

week 17th Aug so email us, & shall be back to you. We are down in Pattaya though if your stuck

to BKK as a location see my good friends, high recommended Soi 13 off Sukhumvit Rd bangkok back of ambassador

hotel, boxer-rebellion ( I think a d0t net suffix gets that url) they got Krav Maga, Kapap, Jeet Kune Do,

Savate, Muay Thai MMA, & other forms of assorted gentlemanly fun pursits of violence!!!

AH!!! reminds me of donning the red jacked & jodphurs & going for a new years gallop with the begals,

(tip hat to huntsmaster) there goes the bugel, a breath a stiff January frosty year, over a few hedges,

toss brandy the the green peace type protestor, & watch those hounds rips a vixen to bits!

    Good only "gentlemanly" fun!!!!

Now I teach the street self defense socialist version of that down in Pattaya, for as Geoff Thompson

says, rolling about the fudpath, outside the chipper, (apres saturday night disco 28 pint Smithwicks 8 vodka coke doc marten

in the face, sort of faux pas that happens one on occasion!) drat WWI was supposed to wipe out the prolateriate!!!

    OH well!!!

Joking aside, I am just trying to wind up the lads at boxer-rebellion for fun on this post.

drop me an email info [at] kravmagathailand [dot] com

or PM me via Thaivisaform pls.

  22. Burriram is a great place, I lived 1 year there, in Nong Ki, with new road your only 90KM (well, where I was in Burriram)

from Korat. Cheap living, & lovely nice people up there, v genuine people.

I'd nearly apply for that position myself (B.A. Degree, Post Grad Dip & TEFL cert done few months back & looking for start Pattaya area)

Only I am committed down here in Pattaya with the woman & new born baby, other wise I'd be up there to Burriram in a flash.

I spent most of 2006 in Nong Ki, & with new highway its much quicker to travel up there, & even the internet speed up there

    I hear has dramatically improved.

Seriously, Burriram is not to discounted, during the week, regardless of where your working, & since teaching is not paid a fortune, most people take it easy mid week. Depending on location Korat is not so far & that is a great city. Night life for those who want to Disco, & plenty of stuff to do. I used to cruise around on the motorbike get lost for dozens of KMs down back roads, its amazing if your interested in the real Isan culture what you will discover. Its like living out the Discover Channel! LOL! I was amazed to find, way off the main road, a tiny village called Ban PraKham which was mostly Catholic in Religion with a church & Nuns (How a tiny Catholic community, exclusive to Ban Prakham ended up there, I still wonder. Google is not telling me).

I had 2 bed room town house big living room (v nice, basic but v good) rent 2500 B a month.

You could not spend money in the place!

It can be a little isolated for want of chat to a farang on occasion, depending on where you are, but a long weekend in Pattaya is only several hours down the road, on VIP Air Coach from Korat.

Plus if your into Muay Thai... Nong Kee Payuath Muay Thai Boxing camp is where famous champs Nampon (famous to Westerns re Ramon Deekers big win & 2nd match loss) & Nambuakan & a host of other champs came from & trained at that camp in Nong Ki.

So alot of things to do in Burriram for the ESL teacher, that does not occur to most people.

Check out what the man got re the Teaching Job in Burriram, 1 year up there is a great experience, & who knows, maybe the cheap living, wonderful people, & lack of BS & chancers in places like Pattaya, you might be very happy to stay & teach in Burriram.

Just bring a suit case of books with you for your personal reading! And stump up the extra for a fast internet connection, & you will have no problem passing time during the week.

A bit off topic, but I could not pass this thread without putting forth my own experiences up in Burriram,

30K B e.g. in Burriram for teaching would be like earning 50K B a month as a teacher in Pattaya. Its good value to live up there. :-)

  24. Hi

This info may have changed, Sept or Oct last year I was on Premier Maxnet 2mb approx

& Maxnet (again is this theory or not) told me (circa Sept - Oct 08) Contention Ration was 50:1 on Premier Maxnet 2mb

(I think it was 50:1 ... if that sounds off target please post in reply, I also had to "push" via Thai GF asking in their

culturally acceptable way, to double check & call HQ.. & was told by 50:1 )

Problem was I was, in my simple basic non techie way of saying it, the Maxnet Field Engineers same 2 worked my area

& always tipped them cash, told me off the record, I was (my words) "at very end of the wire" which I suppose means

I was furtherst point from the DSLAM & they said all the Kids in the dozens of Netcafes download Thai pop videos etc..

was cause of terrible slow international internet speed.

I am on TOT now but on their "Indy" version, approx 2MB & the speed is disgraceful....

and I am more or less in same geographical area in Pattaya.

Changing to Maxnet Premier this week as Field Engs told me I am now almost 1KM closer to DSLAM (I hope that makes a difference on Premier)...

    3 years ago late 2006, when approx 2MB Premier cost approx 4,000 B a month & basic packages well over 1000 B a month

the internet speed back then (same area location) with Maxnet Premier was EXCELLENT! (maybe a total of 2 8 hour working days per month

on average of outtages... 3 hours here, 1 hour there, but net was always back up same day, & rarely hindered business).

It got really bad around September 2007 the general Maxnet internet speed, as the prices dropped massively, (CAT were supposedly come to target the home user market, ) and it seemed all the ISPs dropped their prices in frantic market share grabbing but did not have the technical resources to back it up. ( I was very close by early 2008 to considering seriously a Leased Line at a serious price re the terrible slow speed lckily got an alternative that suited the plan back then).

I was hoping Maxnet on Premier in Pattaya area I am in, would be improved.

(I d hedge an guesstimation re what I read on this forum, odds wise Maxnet Premier should be better than TOT !?!)

I'll let you all know in a week or two!

    Thanks

    Gerry
