  1. Count yourself lucky - at least you got a weeks notice.

Normally i find out the day before but only if i spot the tell tale sign of my wife cleaning the bathroom herself.

You need to train the wife better mate! cheesy.gif

Tried that - suggested she didn't use a dirty rag to clean kitchen worktop so now she just uses her sweeping brush after doing the floor.

  2. Is it actually possible to buy a house with two names one being non-Thai (me)?

It doesn't matter about the house. The house can be in you or your G/F's name. What matters is the Canute (Land Deed) and no it can't be in your name. But you can have a 30 year lease put on the land which makes it less sellable.

Usufruct is the best way to protect you tenure in the house, I am just going through it, but, I have been with my Wife for 11 years. if you buy the house, start looking for another woman, and somewhere to live.

  3. The new terminal used by AirAsia and others is an improvement, tho it's still fairly hectic at the check-in in counters. You can use any counter now, not one specifically for your flight, so you can unload the heavy baggage as soon as you get there.

The nice differences are: no more steep stairs off the plane. No more long walks from the plane in the heat/rain. It's Skyway off the plane into the terminal, then the long walk to Immigration. Restaurants are inside in the air con, not outside, and they seem a lot more upmarket. Things were still being installed a week ago, such as ATM machines.

I enjoyed being able to get on the express train from Sentral in KL and then direct to the main airport and then the new KLIA2. A good trip for 35RM and no haggling about the fare. 28 minutes travel time.

Just came through it today, big improvement on 3 weeks ago, but still many businesses not yet open, and lots of painting still going on. Needs more signage for gate locations, and, it is a good walkto immigration, and from departure to gates.

  4. One option is, to give the case to a lawyer, isn't it?

Thats a great way to atleast DOUBLE the loss!

If you have a valid lease agreement and the landlord don't have any claims against you, why you should not get your money back?

    Duh!! welcome to Thailand.

  5. Well do something <deleted> !!!

He is. He's yapping, posturing, threatening and waffling. I don't think they have the balls to walk up to him and clap handcuffs on his wrists. Too much unknown backlash.

    TIT.

would not be hard to envisage, the resistance to any attempt to physically arrest him, the backlash should they succeed is even more predictable.

  6. Ditch them all and start over?

Ditto. What's your real problem that would allow you to tolerate all of this? w00t.gif

Tuk Tuk driver in the mix??????????????

Only in that he has her as a regular customer for driving her. He's not physically involved - there are lots of falang ex's but he's definitely not in the picture in any way.

Become the latest "Farang ex" many Thai girls out there who will treat you right.

  7. The headline should have read: Police target farang, who can't read!!coffee1.gif

That junction, together with many others in HH, have a sign saying: Left turn, wait for trafficlight!!

So the copper was actually doing his job. That others also broke the law, doesn't change the fact, that you were in the wrong!

Whilst that is true, the fact the policeman specifically targets the foreigner whilst ignoring the crimes of the locals MAKES THIS WRONG !~ OK ?

Not at all, and there is no need to shout, we are not blind.

  8. I don't think its a case of quote "Thai people just cant imagine a young farang not wanting the date a Thai woman."...

Its more that the Thai women (now not all) WANT a farang husband....somehow in their mind I think it equates to MONEY and being treated better....

think of all the children up in the Northeast who live in these villages and the Thai's with the NICEST houses , cars etc. are the ones who are married to farangs.....so what do you think these young girls aspire to when they grow up ....."Marry a Farang"?

Not saying its right...not even saying its true....its just one mans opinion

An interesting bit of advice in Lonely Planet is "When asked if you are married by Thai person, it is diplomatic to say not yet, as merely saying no, will make them wonder what is wrong with you"

  9. Never hurts to hear the views of Thaksin Advisor and Thai Rak Thai Party Member Tom Kruesopon ... as long as one keeps his frame of reference in mind when reading it.

Hmm, that declaration makes the OP a bit one sided i would think.

Maybe but there is a certain amount of truth in it. There are others who seem to be getting away with crime and there may well be others including Democrats who aren't squeaky clean. There are other cases against Thaksin which may well be avoided if there is an amnesty. Of course a lot of this trouble could be avoided if the version of the amnesty which covers just the minor players and which has wide support on both sides was adopted instead.

It is fiendishly clever to insert "a certain amount " of truth into an article blatantly favouring a position.

  10. For many years I refused to buy a car because of the inflated prices, and we really do not have much use for one. Spotted a car on the street, checked it out, 15 years old, 1 owner, she has bought a new one. Well maintained, drives well all for 65,000 baht. Use it for shopping and longer trips, it has opened up new areas for us,still use tuk tuk to go out at night and to go into CM city centre where parking is at a premium. At the price, it is worth having it sitting in the drive.

  11. Well I have only been looking for a car the past few weeks ... So can't really comment on the 30% in the last six months. However I did find the price of a second hand car extremely expensive. I went to a Nissan dealer in Pattaya, I just wanted a small car, thought the Nissan March would be ideal. New price starts at 382,000 baht. This is for the basic model, and when they say basic .. Its basic, not even a radio !! The next model up had all the bits you expect on a car, price 444,000 baht. I spotted a second hand car and wandered over to have a look. It was in good condition, but had 72,000 kilometers on the clock. When I inquired I was told the car was 3 years old, the best bit, it was the basic model ... How much? 350,000 baht !!! 32,000 baht cheaper than a new one?

Yup, thats about par for the course.

  12. The 300 baht per day law is ignored by most small businesses. Many rural workers in Issan are still planting/harvesting rice for 120 baht per day. Brother in law, who is a chef, came to CM for work, was asked by 1 employer for a 9000 baht bond, refundable after 3 months "satisfactory" service. Another employer offered him 200 baht per day, for 12 hours work. Is now working in a hotel, on the clock, and getting paid his 300 baht per day plus o/t. It pays to shop around.
