  1. On the Airasia website it says you can pay for upto 40Kg of extra baggage which is 1235 Baht if you prepay. Airasia used to have a good online customer services chat facility. Last few times I visited there website this feature wasnt available. Does anyone know if you have 5 bags weighing 8Kg each is okay or is there a limit on the number of bags that can make up the 40Kg.

  2. Lots of posts since my original post. Had a nightmare last night. Only went out for 2 beers in the afternoon and took my bike. You know how it is, 2 beers can turn in 15-20 bottle of beers and quite a few whiskeys in the Land of Smiles and got pulled up by the police on the way home. At least I had my crash helmet on. Got fined 12,000 baht for no driving license and being drunk. They wanted 20,000 but managed to get the fine down to 12,000. Thought it was better to pay the fine than end up down the station. Wont be doing that again in a hurry.

I'm living on KPN nowadays.  I seem to see more foreigners than locals, with the foreigners fitting into the following categories:

    - Young Western couples, many Russians, fit, tanned

    - Young Western couples who look like they haven't had a bath in a month and appear to be on Planet Mars (ie stoned out of their minds)

    - Older Western couples who look like they are in a hippy timewarp from the 60's.

    - Sensible Western, professional and single gentlemen (that's me!)

Simon do you class yourself as sensible before or after your mushroom shake?

It's because you're living on a hippie-paradise-island, which got inhabited by foreigners back in the late 1970s, when there were living about 200 Thai nationals on the island. Especially watching the full Moon rise on the so-called Sunrise Beach in uninhabited Haad Rin – you could only get there by long-tail boat, or walking over the mountains, or in low tide walking in water by the cliffs – but one afternoon in the late 70s, which more precise was in 1977, the police in Lamai became too interested in the hippie's mushroom shakes, so they decided to celebrate Xmas and young Joe's birthday on the beach of Haad Rin instead and watch the moon rise.

Guitars, bonfires and lots of irritating sand-flies; however, it was such a good event that they decided to meet again next full Moon and repeat it – and so they have done ever since...:whistling:

Some of the hippies from that time are still living on Phangan and live like like not much had changed, smoking their so-called Bob Marley-cigarettes. Others of the original hippies and later arrived changed "business plan" and became New Age – you might still find some in a remote bay sitting meditating.

Roads and progress changed Phangan, and from 1989 the parties at Sunrise Beach, where bungalows had popped up and a dirt road over the hills made entrance easier, were organized events and Full Moon Party became a worldwide trademark with thousands and young people of both age and mind are getting together in Haad Rin every 4th week. Furthermore, mind the number of high-end yoga- and health resorts, the New Age-hippies have not inhabited the island in vain...

Phangan also became a paradise for so-called digital migrants – some of the are not so "migrant" after visiting Phangan – and other adventurers, perhaps in search of the original secret "beach" from the novel of the same name, that is hidden somewhere out there on one of the islands in Ang Thong Marine Park; of course together with the fields with weed for quite a number of additional Bob Marley-cigarettes – to min knowledge, the haven't yet found "The Beach", or they might just keep it secret...:annoyed:

The Russians came later to the island – both Phangan and Samui – mainly after the millennium, at the moment quite understanding that numerous of young fit Russian men relaxes there.

And then there might be some "sensible Western, professional and single gentlemen", as you say and seems to have noticed – have you ever considered to join a Full Moon Paty, you might even meet some quite exiting people there; I did...????

  5. I want to purchase a 5G Portable Router, can anyone recommend a good make and model. I will be mainly based in Rawai in Phuket so need to subscribe to a service with 5G in that area. I am not bothered about costs, willing to pay a premium for a good router and data service so I get a great service. Any help appreciated.

I haven't measured it, but enough for the girl's Youtube and Netflix streaming, and my news-reading and little online work. AIS states it's from 2-4 Mbps with 4G, but it really depends on where in the huge World you are connecting to, some places can be slow even with a thick fiber.

AIS states up to 2Gbps for their 5G network.

    Thanks Buddy for the info.

I do not know your trading strategies but usually for trading one needs a fast internet responce instead of high internet speeds, so a wireless internet is not a good idea because it adds 50-100 extra ms to the ping time.

An extra 50-100 extra ms isnt a problem as all my orders are limit orders. In an ideal world I wouldnt be using wireless if the property owner who owns the bungalow had a decent broadband service. As I said before I am only there for 30 days so if I can get a good portable service I will go for that option.

  8. I should of included in my original post that I need speeds of 100mps. I will be using the internet connection for daytrading and at the weekend I want to stream live sports. Alot of post are mentioning speeds of 10mps. I am not sure if this will be possible to get 100mps in thailand from a portable router. I havent got a budget so the costs is not a problem if the internet service is good.

I have one as backbone to the fiber, it works fine. The speed is depending on if you have 5G in the area or only 4G. The little AIS router I have, has both WiFi and RJ45 connection...

Edit: For the order of good sake I should add that it's not a pocket device, but a desktop thing, Mine is the 4G version that looks like this...

khunPer, what internet speed do you normally get with the 4G service and have you got any idea the speeds with the 5G service?

A "pocket wi-fi" devices are not very good as they have small antennas because of their size, I recommend buying a full-size 4G router instead. Unfortunately my favourite brand models are well above your budget so wait for other recommendations, some people say TP-Link 4G routers are ok.

    or search this subforum: https://aseannow.com/forum/146-mobile-devices-apps/

Fdsa, I havent got a budget. I was recommended to purchase the AIS portable router for 3,000 Baht. I am looking to get the best internet service. What is your favourite brand models?

  11. Hi All, Great forum by the way. I have rented a bungalow in Rawai for 1 month and the property owner told me the internet service was good before I booked it. Turns out the internet service is not very good. I am on vacation for 2 months but still need to log in and do 3-4 hours a day work on my laptop. Someone I met recommended getting a portable internet router from AIS for about 3,000 baht. Never used a portable internet router before. Are these any good. If I was staying at the bungalow for longer I would just pay to get this service upgraded.
