  1. Having ridden here in Thailand for many years I do have to say that the kids here are fairly good on bikes,  maybe training would be good, but if you consider how many kids get. On bikes here then it's amazing that there are not more accidents.

The scale for the license should be beginner 0-200 cc (that covers most bikes and scooters 90 percent will use.

Medium 201-500cc (for those who are interested in bigger bikes and wants to take the step up,  also an age restriction maybe 17 years old).

Big Bike, 501 cc and up,  over 18 years.

This way you can also make. The testing more focused on the  riders.  All kids here should learn about riding in school.

  2. Hi,  I have looked several places and I find something confusing answers.  Can anyone here help me a bit.

I have a baby boy with a Filipino.  She is working here as a teacher with work permit on a nonB visa.  She has been here several years.

I am here as a tourist,  so that is clear.

We will on Sunday go to Penang to get him a dependency visa to her,  so he does not have to stay here on overstay.  What are the requirements and has anyone done this?  If I deposit 100k in my girls account is that enough if they want to see money?  She has her own salary and this will not be tied up with me.  We have a Thai birth certificate and a Filipino passport for him.  The Norwegian one will come later so no need to stress that.

Just a simple list,  what do we need to bring with us ....

  3. So, just and update. My knee has after 9 holes of golf not started to hurt. So I will be doing a lot more golf in the time that comes. I will also look for a proper fitness studio with machines that will "lock" the muscles that you are exercising. All I need is a  place that can take care of my baby boy while I am doing that...

  4. I like the kayak idea, but far from me. Cant install a tv at the pool, but i will get in and try..

the pain when the knee gets really bad = cant do anything...there might not be nerves there, but the pain is real.. my problem is the stairs... they are hell on earth...

thanks for a few good ideas, i will try them out...

  5. Hi people,

Last September i finaly had my meniscus operation. It was sucessful and i have been gradually getting stronger in my knee. BUT last saturday i jumped off a stage, not a tall stage, but like two stairs high, and i managed to hurt my knee again. The doctor said its torn again, he suggested another operation, but i want to wait. It does not hurt most of the time, but i feel i have to do some exersise... i wills tart lifting some weights, but i also need cardio. What can you guys suggest! I can not walk or run for long as the impact on my knees are to much. I am fat and very heavy.

Is biking the only thing i can do? If anyone has experience with biking and dogs, please let me know...

other suggestions are more then welcome...

ps, i have a pool, but i just dont get tired from swimming...

  6. Yes he is a serial killer and should be behind bars forever, and he will be... but, as long as Norway keep fronting human rights we can not disregard them when we don't like it, we have to follow them no matter how painful it might be. He might have it to nice in his cell, I have seen the newspaper layout and I do feel ashamed about that but there are certain things that can be changed, we are not benefiting from him going even more crazy inside jail. If one inmate does not have basic human rights, then when to choose?

personally I would not mind seeing him torn to pieces by dogs, but that's not in the book (sorry to all you bloodthirsty people), so we follow the law we have. He did have some valid points when he won the first trial, as the judge even had conceded.

he is in jail, and it's important to treat him humane, even if he does not deserve it!

  7. If the legal system is going to function we do need to follow the law. ABB will never be a free man, that is quite sure, but as an inmate he does have rights and regardless of his crime, they must be followed... I am from Norway, I don't like him and I am quite sure he will have a

'hard" time in the shower, but that's not the case. He is currently using several cells, and he has a better life than many of our senior citizens which is completely wrong! BUT, we have to follow the human rights and some things can/should not happen... there is for example no reason for 20 strip searches in one day...he should be allowed contact with other inmates as it really does not matter if he killed one or 77.

it is quite an interesting case and it show what's wrong with our system but also what is good.

  8. Here we go, complain about the police again... did they know he had only one yaabaa tablet? He ran away from a legit stop. From what I saw it was a very successful chase, throw the book at the driver as one copper got injured...

''these cops here are clearly doing their job... give them a bonus...

Sometimes they need to get rough, if I was in Bangkok, I would buy them a round...

  9. Hi,

rent an apartment, one bedroom with a kitchen, living room, access to fitness and swimming pool at 7300 pr month, I pay 4000 for my room and I also have fitness and pool.

daily living, well, you can eat each meal for around 50thb, I don't, but you can.

i live about 20 minutes on a motorcycle from the beach. Nice quiet town... where?? Nakhornsrithammarat, that's it...

you can can also rent entire houses 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, for around 8000-10000 in new gated communities...

skip bangkok and tourist places ant Thailand can be cheap, but boring!

  10. Thanks guys, it looks more and more as if I will do the METV, or the expensive elite thing.

Its all a bit much these days but I know it will work itself out and we will find a way. The baby will not be Thai, both me and mummy are foreigners and not interested in having a thai citizenship for the baby. Philippino and Norwegian will do.

  11. We both lived together for several years while working at governemnt schools. She has all her papers in order, and money for the birth itself I am not worried about.

I left for us to set up here, but its expensive and takes time (I keep returning to see her all the time).

Would a two months tourist visa work, then just fly out and get another 30 days, then go to her parents in march-may and do it all over again?

  12. My long time girlfriend called me and said I will be a dad in Novermber, hurray...

Now all our plans have changed, she is thinking of having the baby in Thailand, not the Philippines. Yes, she is a filipino.

My question is simple, I get up to 50 weeks leave with pay when the baby is born, what visa should I apply for to be in Thailand legally. I will also paid from my country so I have money to live there.

Better to live well in Thailand than skint in a cold nordic country...

    Any suggestions regarding the visa?

  13. I have no doubt that Thais will not walk 300 meters to buy beer or any other form of alcohol... Now, if there only was a machine with a seat and two wheels, runs on petrol that they could ride to a shop that sells.... More drink riding will happen...

As a former teacher I would also suggest that the beer they serve at school teachers parties will also be banned... Or does that not count???

  14. I bought a Honda wave once from the local Yamaha dealer and at the end of our negotiations we were haggling over 50thb a month for the finance. I was hung over and was not expecting to buy a bike, I was just picking up my friend that had his bike serviced there, the truth is as it has been said here, they do not make much profit on cash sales, on finance they make a lot, A LOT more, so why budge on the price. Just ask for a helmet, water heater or fan, free insurance and then be on your way. The less time spent in the dealership is more time spent riding and having fun.

Resale it is hard to ask a high price for any bike as long as the dealership offers silly down payments... Why buy second hand when you can buy new for less, yes you pay more in the end but it is a new bike and the monthly costs you don't care about... Well, the Thais think like that- just as some of us westerners do....

Example. I am going to buy a new bike, locally a guy is selling his cbr250, clean and neat, 65000... Just for fun and out of boredom I went to Kawasaki yesterday, they were going to throw me a z800 after a small deposit of 55000, and 7200 a month... Needless to say, I am no longer bothering to look at the cbr, I am now trying to justify to myself and my gf on why I need a z800 when I am only in Thailand 4-6 months a year...

  15. I lives in NST for almost 14 years, it's a nice quiet town with many things to do. When I am over there I usually play golf on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Snooker afterwards is a must.

There is a gym at twin lotus hotel, a bit pricy, but it's there. Last time I was in town I also saw a few small gyms popping up in various places. At the two large parks there are some equipment to use for free. The hardcore guys will end up at the stadium for a gym there, I think it's 5 thb each time, but be prepared to wait for weights. A good way to practice Thai!

As for going out without drinking it is not a problem. Enjoy good food at 99 with shakes, soft drinks, or water. Everyone is friendly there...

The thing to remember is that most, if not all expats there, are working, and they live a party life. That said, they do have activities like ultimate freesbee, football (soccer) tournaments and other stuff, just grab a hold of the first white person you see and you are in the game...

There are girls of pleasure in NST, but unless it has changed for the last 2 months, it should not be a problem as they are in a certain part of town, not like most other cities.

It's easier to advice you on things if you give details as where you will stay, NST is a small city... But a big province...

Short distances to the beach and waterfalls... If you manage to cope with some boredom, you should be ok.

I will be back in July for a few months, maybe you will see me.

  16. So, I am thinking of buying a car next year, in July, since I will stay here for a few months then, I want a car, can I buy one with just a tourist visa, 60 or 90 days? I will buy the car cash so I don't care about finance.

At my local immigration they suggested I put it in my GF'S name!! So, I got a good laugh and no help from them. Previously I have always had a WP so no problem, but now, I am here only a few months at the time...

    Suggestions?
