I have been retired in Chiang Mai for 12 years now on an O-A Visa (USA) for reason of retirement. I have always used the monthly transfer of 65,000+ baht reasoning that, my retirement funds are invested and earning me dividends (about 5K in 2022) helping support my retirement. I will be allowing my O-A Visa to expire (yep insurance issue) and change to an O Visa this year. I plan on continuing my monthly transfers. $1526.00 USD of my monthly $2400.00 USD budget comes from US Social Security with the remainder from my retirement/invested funds. Works for me.
I apologize for hijacking this thread. But had to respond to your post. In CM you will be required to deposit 800k in the bank to obtain an O visa. Doesn't matter that you used 65k monthly for 12 years. I had to transfer 800k to Thailand to change from O-A to O.

My plan also is to continue using the income qualification of 65K a month
Hopefully you don't live in Chiang Mai.

Hopefully, you just got an IO who only had the 800K in their mind.
I hope so. Having lunch tomorrow with my agent.

Might very well be that the Immigration office in Chiang Mai is trying to direct you to an Agent.
If so, best to go along with this type of concealed suggestion...
You are 100% correct.
The previous 7 years I've used an agent. Not for financial reasons. Just for convience.
I will be using the same agent NOW as well.- 1

I wonder if other IO accept 65k for 12 months?
Or just a CM requirement. -

You could have changed your extentions from non O-A to based on marriage and not required insurance.
I have been using marriage to extend. Wanted to change to Non O since extensions are easier than marriage. What a BIG mistake. I hate myself for doing this.

I do believe that CM has that 2 month requirement which is wrong but doesn't help.
In reality for non O application the 800k or 400k only needs to be in the bank on day of application.
Hate rogue immigration offices.
AND a 30 day extension is only 9 days in CM. Because one must apply for Non O 21 days before end of stay date.

Shock rightly so.
I realize that it's not easy or convenient but you could use money in the bank method for the non O and subsequent extension along with maintaining the 65k transfers for the next 12 months then change to income method.
Not much of a suggestion but all that comes to mind.
The 800K has to be in the bank for 2 months before applying for Non O. So if I go that root I would have get a 30 day extension. AND do another Laos hop.
They don't care that I've lived in Chiang Mai for 8 years. And spend 1.5 mil per year.

So you applied for a non O retirement at CM and had bank records of previous 12 month of monthly transfers of 65k and it was rejected.
Yes. And I've been using 65K/mo. for OA extensions for the previous 7 years in Chiang Mai.
I hopped to Laos to void the OA. And expected to apply for Non o using 65K/mo. Boy was I surprised.
I'm married and have an expensive house (with usufruct). What a shock.

You can apply for a non O based on retirement in Thailand however that requires 65k monthly deposits for 12 months.
I tried to do this at Chiang Mail immigration (65k for 12 months). They would not accept.

If 45 day ends 1/27 and on 1/11 I extend 30 days, new end date is 2/26? Not 2/10.
-
At Chiang Mai immigration can I wait until the last day of 45 day visa exempt?
If extend before last day, is 30 day added from that day or added from end of 45 day stay?
Chiang Mai ONLY - Agent specialising in financial requirements for retirement extensions?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

If you're obtaining the O visa outside Thailand. You should be fine. That way you don't have to be concerned with CM immigration.
