I contacted the IRS on May 14 and had a real conversation. Was told my check was mailed out May 1 and there would be  NO other replacement sent be post. Their options were wait, change address back to the state then give banking details or wait until next year where be a line on the tax forum  for for us to put are banking details that the SSA have.  185 days from what I was told a check with and autograph the POTUS for 1200 dollars about 2 hours back. No other date or info the check. The check does say on Kansa City MO. I am working with my bank to reset my app so I can send the check that way.  So those that have  received do not panic.

Don't understand. You finally got the check 2 hours ago? (185 days from May 1 is in November.)

Welcome to the club. Get your payment says payment approved May 8th, 2020. I am on direct deposit for Social Security BUT ... I filed tax returns for 2018 and 2019, SS was to inform IRS that I receive direct deposit BUT they did not. IRS mailed a check to the Thai address given on my 2018 tax return BUT someone typed in the wrong address. So ... no payment received. Filed a Form 3911 to trace payment BUT due to US - Thai mail service disruption, no luck in finding check. Currently awaiting a determination to send check to new address listed on 2019 tax return. I filed more for incomation purpose as I own no tax and am due no tax refund. Told that IRS cannot do  a direct deposit for my payment ... and the beat goes on. What does this tell me about filing a return?! No good deed goes unpunished.

Despite not owing tax, I still file a return every year. I get my ss statements here at my apartment in BKK, which is where I also received the payment letter. So they know where I am. So maybe I'll try the tax credit thing when I file next year. (Unless I feel like going through the phone maze, which I doubt I will.)

    Are you say

Are you saying even when your request to purchase these files is made Lazada doesn't accept the order?

Can't you just pay for shipping?

It says (for example), B35 per with B50 minimum. I go to buy 2 (B70), but shopping cart total still says zero. It says shipping (something like) B20. But cart says zero.

I buy stuff from Lazada fairly often and goes well. But of course for much higher totals.

  4. Any one know where to get this sort of thing? Can easily find the small, hard 'nail boards.' These don't seen to be in many shops. Thx.

(Yeah, they have on Lazada for very cheap. But even when I buy enough to go over their minimum, the cart still says zero. I only need a few.)

  5. I know there are various established businesses selling, and sometimes delivering, freshly made juice in Bangkok (e.g., Brocolli Revolution, Life Style Juicery, Veggiology...). In the fresh market where I live (Udom Suk--Sukhumvit soi 103), there was a woman with a stand selling drinks. She had a big juicer and would make a variety of fresh juices for a very reasonable price. But recently she decided to stop making fresh juice (not enough business, too much hassle?). So: Does anyone know of a similar juice stand in upper Sukh? Even if I had to go to On Nut, Ekamai, etc., it would probably be worth it. Thx

  6. Every couple years I get a bloated gut. Have done detox at Spa Resort on Samui about 10 times, but their prices have gone way up. At The Spa (among other things), you take a 'detox shake' of psylluim husk powder and some bentonite clay with water and a little pineapple juice 7 times a day. Plus herbs from a company called Arise & Shine in the US: 1) "Chompers" ("intestinal cleansers"), and 2) "Herbal Nutrients." These seem to help clean the sludge out of your intestines. (I always feel fantastic after the 1-week fast-cleanse.)

So now my gut is acting up again (feel bloated and like a lot of stuff is 'percolating' in there). I'm currently doing a fresh juice fast, which I'm sure will help. But I'd also like to get some herbs or other supplements to help clean out my intestines. I guess there are a couple choices: 1) traditional Chinese herb shop or clinic, 2) shop or pharmacy selling concoctions to help with this.

I'm in upper Sukhumvit. Googling said Boots pharmacies have probiotics, which I think might also be good at this time. Maybe they also have a good supplement for the gut? There's also a place on Sukh Soi 22 called Sunshine Market I may go to today. Pretty sure they'll have probiotic and maybe some good supplements. But when I've been there before I found them to be very expensive.
    Any helpful info/suggestions appreciated. Thx

I was not clear. Seeing the io for residence certificate took 10 minutes. You deal with one clerk first and then move to another to check every detail of your address and give you EMS tracking etc. They advise you will receive in 2-3 weeks.

The certificate is valid for 30 days from date of issue.

OK, so it's like before. At least I know where to do it. As of last time I checked US embassy site (a couple weeks ago), they are not doing residency certificates currently due to the virus. Bummer, sort of, cuz it took just 30 min. or so to apply and receive the certif. But I say 'sort of,' cuz it took 3 weeks to get an appointment at the embassy (as of last year or so, which seems ridiculous). So, the only advantage over CW was not having to take a taxi out and back. (Embassy much more expensive than CW, however, at $50/pop.)

I obtained one at Muang Thong Thani for 200 baht last Thursday. In and out in 10 minutes.

    Wasn't difficult.

Just to confirm...you got a residence certificate there? All done in 10 minutes? (Think I heard re: previous method at CW it was 2-step process: one day to apply, another day to pick up.) Is the place easy to find in Muang Thong Thani? Thx

I have a Schwab Investment account and they have some specific forms that must be filed regarding wills that bequeath asserts to beneficiaries in countries other than the USA.  Your investment account holder probably has similar documents that must be filed.  Best talk to your account representative directly how to go about bequeathing US based assets.

A friend who served as executor of another friends estate in Thailand found that it was extremely important that all banking and residential details of beneficiaries be up to date and maintained. He had great difficulty because an account number or passbook number had been changed but not recorded.  Best to get professional advice if the money you bequeath is in a Thai bank account.

Ha! All my money is also in Schwab. I guess I could log in and search, but is there a place there where I can designate what's to be done with my assets if I die? Er, all those assets are in Schwab's (US funds).

Sunbelt Asia can do it, and they are not far from you. I have used them before. Be aware that you do not need a lawyer, nor do you need to register the Will at a local Amphur for it to be valid in Thailand. That is a myth.  You can find many Will templates online for free. What you do need is this:

The Will written in Thai language (English can be included)

The Will must state who will be your Executor of the Will

The Will can only cover assets located in Thailand. You must have a separate will for assets in another country.

The Will must be signed by 2 witnesses

The Will should have all contact information of the Executor, and people who will receive your assets.

All of the above you can do yourself, along with a Translation company to assist. Make sure you have more than one copy with original signatures, and tell a good friend or family member where to find it.

Thanks. So looks like I can make a will to cover Thailand by myself (with a translator probably). But the majority of my money is with a US investment firm. Do you know if I can also make a separate will covering that in the same way? If I get two American friends here to sign as witnesses, is that sufficient?

  11. Been meaning to make a legally binding will for some time. (I'm from USA but living here 14 years on retirement visa.) Not sure, but guessing I need a lawyer to help with this? If so, can anyone recommend an English speaking lawyer (or barrister to Brits?), hopefully in upper Sukhumvit area (Ekamai to Bangna)? Or lower Sukhumvit otherwise. (I already was recommended one in Silom, but would prefer to not go that far.) Thx

Thaniya Plaza closed down earlier this year as the entire building is undergoing a major renovation, so there are no golf shops there any more. A few of the shops relocated to Kian Gwan House 3 on the corner of Wireless Rd and Lumpini but unsure what happened to the used club traders and whether they relocated or shut down. Alternatively a huge new golf zone opened last month in the Show DC Mall cnr Rama 9 and RCA, and a smaller golf section in the Doki Japanese mall in Ekkamai (possibly there's some used club traders there).

Au Contraire: Thaniya Plaza is alive and well. I bought a half set there last Wednesday and took this short video while I was there. ????

  13. Got the replacement ear pads for my Bose QC35 headphones today and installed them. (Once removing the old ones, was obvious how to install the new ones. There's a hard lip that you wedge into a groove. But first replace the L and R screens with the new ones provided.) Stouricks was right: These are every bit as good as the originals. 87 baht + 20 shipping from Lazada. Received 12 days after ordering. Pizza cake.

The ones I got from Lazada were EXACTLY the same as the originals, even down to a sticker with the same bar-code. I suspect originals made in factory in China, and someone knocks out a few extra for Lazada,Ali BB, etc. Get them from Bose and they are $22.

Good to know. And they looked like the grey donuts in my original post?

I also got replacement earpads from a Lazada seller.  Could never get them to seat properly and one constantly fell off.  Became a moot point when the headband gave out.

That's what I was afraid of. Yeah, they look kinda cheap. But maybe before ordering from amazon to be shipped here (with duty, higher price...), maybe I could try the lazada ones. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll be OK....

Just got some from Lazada via China, Bht 153 delivered, took 7 days. Fitting 5 minutes, there is a video on You Tube.

However they are the same sh..ty plastic as originals. There are some lambskin ones for Bht 700 which I shall try next time = in six months.

And can anyone explain how this could happen, the covering on the body has expanded and will not push back into the slots. BOSE have agreed to replace the phones which are 15 months old, £180. but only via my UK address and when they get the faulty ones back. I asked if mine were the only pair in the entire World which have suffered this problem = no comment!

Yeah I saw them on lazada for like 84 baht. Plus shipping 153 baht I suppose. So I suppose I could do that.
But right: The ear pads they put on headphones these days are comfortable and nice for a coupe months...then they start to disintegrate, and you start seeing black flecks everywhere.

I got replacement pads for my wonderful Sony MDR-7506 studio 'phones a couple years ago from amazon (while I was ordering other stuff I suppose). But instead of the usual fake leather, I got a cloth velour set (see below). Though I mainly use these at home, I think the velour is way preferable to the faux leather...cuz they will never deteriorate into flakes...and never feel sweaty. So, what I'd really like is some similar velour replacement ones for my Bose QC35 Bluetooth 'phones...which I absolutely love, BTW.

Sorry to hear about the warped plastic on your Bose cans. Did they ever get left in the sun or otherwise exposed to heat?

did you try lazada, Shopee or Aliexpress

Yes...the first pic above I got off amazon. The second pic I got off lazada. I've bought some things from lazada before and it's been all good. But 1) the second pic above from lazada look kind of cheaper than the amazon ones. And some were priced at only 84 baht for the pair. I wondered if shipping cost would be about the same as the price of the ear pads, which seemed a bit sad. (I know that's a bit illogical.) So, 2) I thought that probably some local shops stocked them and I could go see them in person, and maybe have the shop person install them for me. (Plus, I need a little excursion.) ????
(BTW, I'm prejudice again Shopee. My reason is perhaps silly, but I freaking couldn't stand the amount of advertising they did at Phrom Phong BTS station when they were launching. they had bought and paid for basically every inch of the station: orange ticket wickets, giant orange screen in front of wickets, stair risers walking to platform all orange ads, and just about everywhere else was orange. I understand that businesses need to advertise, but that was completely gross/tasteless over-the-top overkill IMO. ???? )

  18. I imagine some generic versions of these are available in town...anyone know where? I also guess some original Bose ones might be available, but pricey, when generic ones would be plenty good enough. Sukhumvit area, or close, best. Thx
