So this gentleman flew-in from the middle east with nearest & dearest at his side as a walk-in patient ???
Sorry I don't buy that !!
What don't you get? People walk into Accident and Emergency Rooms and admission departments every hour of every day, that's what hospitals are for to tend to the sick when they arrive.
As far as I can see the Bumrungrad did the right thing, identified the problem, isolated him and informed the authorities who took him and his family to a special isolation hospital.

No insurance, ok error.....it's times like these I would like to see the British government step in and help one of our own for once!
Having worked in a BKK private hospital for the last 10+ years and dealing with all the European and commonwealth embassies I can confirm that no embassy will pay for care and repatriation costs (unless the patient is a wanted criminal in their own country).
Think of the expense to the taxpayer of paying for the treatment and repatriation of every Brit who has no insurance and finds themselves with health problems. This is not just a Thailand problem it happens in all the countries where Britons live or holiday.
It is the responsibility of every tourist to get travel insurance that includes health and repat cover.
I would not consider buying insurance from the internet go to a live person who works for an insurance broker. The best deals I have found are from the Nationwide Building Society and the Post Office.

40k gbp in 5 days?
Where is he being attended to?
He is obviously in a private hospital where the intensive care room costs approx 2000GBP/night, then there are the very expensive drugs he will require, the ventilator and other equipment costs and doctors fees. So this cost does not surprise me.

What about the British Embassy for once doing the decent thing??
Get the poor guys body home and worry about the monetary aspects later!!
I have worked in a large Bangkok private hospital for the last 10 years and the number of tourists who are foolish enough not to take out insurance is legion, not just Brits but other nationalities too. If the British government paid to repatriate those who are uninsured, whether dead or maimed, then the costs would be excessive.
Just think that this happens in all countries where Brits travel and not just in Thailand do you think that the UK government should pay for everyone who is uninsured. And what about those who find themselves in hospital without the ability to pay, should the government stump up for their considerable bills too (and in every other country).
I deal with many embassies in Bangkok and none of them pay to repatriate their nationals.

8 1/2 inches would be the ruination of any young (or old) man. A doc.

I think the Thai Police would describe it as a move to an Inactive Post for the previous incumbent. Mr Kent, we love the bit that says you will concentrate on amongst other things we Expats living here. When can we have a breakfast meeting to discuss pensions!
It has already happened at the tail end of last year instigated by the present ambassador, who invited an FCO minister to the meeting. Sorry you missed it.

Praying for Mr Kent to do some good for us Brits and not just make things easier at the embassy but by stirring sh*t up and giving it a real go. Getting out and speaking to the people who matter and not just relaxing into his cushty post, from the sounds of his resume he hasn't had a bad place to work so heres hoping for more solid work from him.
Don't worry I'll sing his praises now but naturally will be one of the first to chirp up if something is a miss.
I am sure you will chip in if something is A Miss if not amiss

Asif Ahmad's appointment was always intended to be a temporary posting to fill in the gap left by the early exit of the last ambassador the inimitable Quinton.
Any suggestions that he has been incompetent, malfescent or has made some mistake during his tenure is tosh.

We find out, next week with the red rally.I'm happy that I'm not living in Bangkok.
I was told by red friends not to go to bkk on those days.
Typical piece of scaremongering - you should have lived through the 'troubles' in Northern Ireland to know what real insurrection is.

if Abhisit and the democrats not act swiftly things will be completely out of control.
Recommended Agenda for this week
Indictment of PAD - SERIOUS AND URGENT so that they can't work around at the expenses of Thai people
Call for an election.
After the election, indictment of the coup leaders from 2006, regardless of their self honored amnesty.
Why did they need a self amnesty if a coup would be legal by any means?
Who else you think is interested in troubles? Smell the coffee.
This is stupid the Democrats were elected honestly and fairly they joined with a collation to form the government this is a legit administration. But they are far too lilly livered to do very much about the real threat that they and the country face.

I find the comments on this topic quite interesting with some writers being quite dismissive if the victim were a young lady I am sure there would be a more respectful tone from some of them and lots of (false) "RIP'".
But because this involves some seemingly unusual sexual escaped by gay men some see it fit to make light of the event.
May be murder or not but concealing a body for a week is certainly a crime.
