  1. The U.S. embassy website has instructions for obtaining a Thai driver's license. I have questions about the process that I hope others who have completed the process can answer. I am on the BOI LTR 10-year visa (not sure if that matters).

Here is the embassy page. Here are the steps they outlined, which I would guess are similar or the same regardless of which passport you hold:

    1. Obtain a certificate of residency from the nearest Thai Immigration Office.
    2. U.S. passport, including a photo copy of the main page and the Thai visa page
    3. Medical Report (you may obtain at any hospital or clinic for the purpose of a driver’s license)
    4. Valid State / International driver’s license
** if you do not have a valid license, you may have to take a driving course and test
    5. Photo can be taken at the department of Land Transport
    6. Pay the fee (Fee 205 baht for car, Fee 105 baht for motorcycle)

    My questions:

    • I have the yellow house registration book. Do I still need a certificate of residency from immigration?
    • If my residence is in Bangkok, can I obtain the driver's license at a Transportation office in a different province?

Any other information you can provide would be appreciated!

Presumably this means no requirement for 400K in the bank, or its monthly remittance equivalent, for an extension based on marriage?

Correct. There is no financial requirement for foreign wives married to Thai husbands, unlike foreign husbands married to Thai wives. Regardless of having no financial requirements for my Non-Immigrant O visa, I am still finding the LTR Wealthy Pensioner visa less of a hassle and less expensive over the long term.
