  1. Yet another thread with pointless fear mongering and guesswork don't be surprised if there's no new information or clarification whatsoever from any official source!  I know people will say you should be planning ahead incase you may have to do this and that but the reality is nothing has changed my advice is to plan on tax avoidance like all buissines and the rich do here untill it becomes clear which could be a very long wait! on legal Tax avoidance are you aware that you can legally carry 450000 Thai bath undeclared into Thailand from any bordering country in cash! ALso if you fly home you can legally carry 20000 USD or the equivalent in any currency into Thailand believe me it's relatively simple to get an account in one particular adjoining country who will happily give you Thai baht in large quantities I'm not saying or suggesting you should do this but it's a start to protect yourself from possible but unlikely implementation I believe like many it won't amount to people's worst fears but if you are pooping yourself get thinking of avoidance and not compliance SHEEPLE

Further guidance from the Revenue Department on Foreign Sourced Income

In addition to examples of scenarios in which taxpayers should be exempt from Thai tax on foreign-sourced income, the FAQ also clarifies several points, including:

“Remittance of income into Thailand” is defined as any action in bringing the income sourced abroad into Thailand, including wiring money from a bank account, transferring money via e-banking, or physically carrying cash into Thailand.

However, the FAQ did not confirm whether spending money in Thailand from an offshore bank account, credit card, or debit card could be considered a remittance of income into Thailand.

  3. Let me offer one very simple solution for the vast majority of expats who seem to be <deleted>ting themselves mainly USA citizens probably democrats! if your so worried instead of debating and waiting for more info to come out IE FACTS ENFORCEMENT ETC  here's a legit way to cover yourself for the majority of us if your over 55. take a trip to Cambodia on arrival get the ordinary visa 35dollars go to any travel agent and get a 3 month retirement Visa takes about 3 weeks when I last did this only 20 months back! When you have your visa open a ABA account very easy to do transfer funds to there from buissines private pension or whatever you want to keep off the radar, order Thai BAHT from the Cambodian bank as it's an adjoining country to Thailand the legal amount you come into Thailand without declaring it is five hundred thousand BAHT in cash . as a bonus those who have stupidly married in Thailand or are hooked up to a controlling Thai gf it's a great excuse to have some fun in Phnom pen

Did you know that Biden beat Trump before?

Yes by a narrow margin but now the Dems are disgusted with his pathetic left wing policies and desperate measures to stop TRUMP from running the fact is even the snowflake left are turning to trump so it's over for the dems

I think some of us are in major denial here.

From my experience in India, they will hit you at the source of the banks.

You. Are delusional that would require new laws to be made unenforceable and would be frowned upon globally! Thailand would be a laughing stock and pray tell me any countries in th world that taxes money at source

I thought it was clear: any income earned after Jan 1, 2024 and remitted any time after Jan 1, 2024 must be reported via a tax return, from March 2025  onwards. Couldn't  be clearer  than that. You may claim a Tax credit if the income has been already taxed and a DTA between Thailand and the country where the income has be earned is in place. The details of reporting will probably be worked out on the fly, in typical Thai fashion.

I may be worth to remember that in Thailand yo may  get a pretty  harsh punishment for rather minor offences. I doubt I'd survive more then a couple of months in a Thai prison. Imagine dying of urinary retention because they don't give you your prostate medication? That kind of stuff happens daily here.

Really! your spouting bull<deleted> where has it been announced that all expats have been ordered to register for a TN and submit an tax return you <deleted>

It works the other way round :

they don't have to check all ATM withdrawals done in Thailand.

They will just have to ask all tax residents (ie people staying over 179 days) to list their ATM withdrawals.

If they don't believe the answer they can ask the tax resident to provide the corresponding statements of  all his foreign bank accounts, translated into Thai and stamped by his embassy in BKK and the MFA. They know from CRS which banks he has accounts with.

If he won't provide this information,  they may just estimate the withdrawals.

All the people here who think all this is too much work for the RD, maybe  have never filed taxes anywhere. It's generally not the RD, or his or her Majesty, the IRS or whoever, who does the work.  It's the taxpayer who has to do the work.

Unfortunately for the RD, a database of all people staying over 179 days does not exist yet.

Your delusional nothing is going to happen for decades to expats nothing as for ATM withdrawals foreign banks don't share information with Thailand that's the law

  8. A bit disappointed my estimated 200 pages of crap scaremongering and total delusion on this thread may not reach it's target come on USA expats your dying to pay taxes here get queuing at the tax office beg for your TN get your accountant and documents translated and verified transfer millions of BAHT before the Jan 1st deadline hurry you know it makes sense! still have no takers on my bet of nobody being forced to get a TN number next year or having to submit a tax return here by law I wonder why 😁
