  1. Greetings,

I tried searching, but perhaps my search terms were way off. If this was answered before I would appreciate a link to the thread. My situation:

I left Thailand, along with my son, to get things set-up for my family in my home country. My wife and daughter (dual passport holder born in Thailand) are still in Thailand and will be joining us soon. When I brought my son out I had to show papers from my wife that it was OK for me to take him out and all went well (no issues with exiting Thailand).

I just want to know if my wife will have any issues bringing our daughter out with her when they come or do they need any written paper from me? I will not be joining them for the exit and she will need to do it alone.

Hope that is enough info or if anyone has a link to this please post.

    Thanks

  2. You seem not really know what it is about to work there, even you say that you are already in contact with a recruiter. Don't get shanghaied.....

    Sent from my phone

Please refrain from assuming that I have not performed DD. I am aware of the process and what is needed and what is involved.

I have been to the Saudi embassy site which does not have any visa info on it. If I missed another site I would much appreciate a link.

I am looking for another person that has been thru the process from here and can perhaps give any helpful advice or info about what to do and any heads up things to watch for and what papers they require.

    Thanks

  3. Hi all,

I am currently in the process of securing employment in Saudi and wanted to get info on getting the work visa from BKK,

I do not live in BKK but am in the south of Thailand and my recruiter is in the UK.

The info I need just to prepare and get ready is:

What documents are needed (medical, copies of degrees etc..)?

    Overall process time?

    Easy or dificult to obtain?

Payment in Saudi and transfer back here?

Or any recent info anyone may have on the subject.

    Thanks for any input

  4. Hi and thanks for any advice,

I am married to a Thai national and we have 2 kids. We also just recently purchased a house. I don't have a job and due to the house purchase I am short on the 400000 baht required. My visa expires on the 26th of this month and I have an appointment on the 28th to get my yellow book (if that matters). My wife makes just shy of 40000 baht a month so that option is out. I would be going to penang to get a visa as I live in the south.

What visa options do I have as I am on my second tourist visa and worry I won't get another.

    Thanks again

  5. Hey all,

I would like to say thanks for all those that participated in my research and the results are still being analyzed. I am in need of more depth to answer my research questions and would like for any and all to answer 3 simple questions. The answers will be coupled with the interviews, survey and my own experience (auto-ethnography) to give more details. The questions are below and thanks for any assistance.

    1. Describe a time in your teaching career while working in Thailand that was an unpleasant experience.

    2. Describe a time in your teaching career while working in Thailand that was a pleasant experience.

    3. What if anything would you like to see changed in reference to Thai government regulations within the teaching community?

  6. Hey all,

I will be traveling to Hat Yai next week and was wanting some spots to shop around for restaurant supplies. My needs are:

    1. Utensils (spoons, knives, forks etc...)

    2. Tables and chairs

    3. Dishes (plates, bowls etc...)

Any good and reasonably priced places around? I will be traveling from Nakhon Si Thammarat.

    Thanks

  7. Hi all,

The survey is now complete and I would like to say thank you for those that participated. I will post the results at a later time when I have finished analyzing the data.

I have 1 more favor to ask. The survey failed to ask for an email address when a person clicked yes to participate in an online interview and now I have no participants for phase 2. I need 5 people to complete the online email interview which only has a few questions and than email it back to me. If you can help please send a pm with your email address and I will send you the questions.

Thanks again for all who helped,

    James

  8. Your questionnaire has some problems, for example, choose one of the following 1)strongly disagree 2)disagree 3)agree 4)strongly disagree(one and four are the same). Once the questions on the first page are answered and next is clicked, a message pops up saying all questions need to be answered, even though they all were answered. Hope this helps and makes sense.

Thanks for that. I guess even the pilot study people did not see that. It is now corrected. The pop-up only happens when all are not answered. I completed the questionnaire and no problems. The pop-up happened when I left an item blank.

    Thanks for the help

  9. Hi all,

I am in the final stages of completing my MATEFL course and would like to enlist your assistance with this questionnaire. If you would like to participate the link is - http://www.expatmotivation.com click on the name of the survey and it will be launched. The total completion should be less than 20 minutes.

The purpose of this questionnaire is to identify some of the factors that influence, motivate, and empower expatriate English language teachers in Thailand.

The questionnaire concerns both job satisfaction and career satisfaction. There is no known risk associated with participation in this research.

Participation is entirely voluntary. Data from the questionnaire will be anonymous. Names of participants will not be connected to questionnaire information.

This is not an evaluation of any language teaching program, and the identity of the program in which you work will not be connected to the data.

You are eligible to participate if you are currently or have provided direct instruction to learners of English as a second or foreign language, either full or part time, at any institution or in any language program.

If you are interested in finding out the results of this questionnaire it will be posted at www.expatmotivation.com

Thank you all for your help,

    James

  10. I would second dreamhost as a provider as I have been with them for 7 years. They do offer unlimited space and hosting of domain names and sub names, but the bandwidth has a limit. You could check and see if they would work for you. If you decide to use them I can give you a special discount thing they let us do and can save you a little money. For the basic hosting it is $120 a year.

If you decide to use wordpress do not do the automatic install some hosting providers offer. Upload the files yourself which will give you greater control.

If you have any more questions just ask

    James

  11. Ok, thanks I'll look into that. As mentioned, I need something that can handle large photo uploads and has a lot of storage (about 20gig)

The plugin will depend on your needs and you just have to find one that suits you. The storage of 20 gigs will come from your hosting service for the site and will not have any effect on the plugin itself.

If you want something that will handle 20 gig of uploads in 1 shot that may be difficult, but a lot will depend onyour hosting provider. You may want to do a search of hosting providers that will be able to handle the large amount of pictures.

Wordpress dot com is free to host your site, but may have limits on uploads.

Forgot - one plugin for wordpress is nextgen gallery. I have used it myself and always had zero problems.

  12. Wordpress was and is a blog platform, but it has advanced to a degree where anything can be done with it. There is a plugin that you can get (free) that will handle what you want. You can see an example of a wordpress site if you check out my signature and add dot com to the name.

Do a quick search for wordpress photo plugins and see if anything will work out for you.

  13. We pay 6000 baht per month in the South which includes cooking and cleaning. I guess not bad, but the Thai people where my wife works say we pay to much as they pay about 4000. My wife is happy with her so it's OK.

As for extra work we would average her daily wage which is 300 baht and tack on double if the need arised. So I guess for special services on nights or weekends it would cost us double.

    James

  14. We use Drypers a pack of 84 is 399 baht at Tesco and we use about 1 - 1/2 per month for a cost of 600 baht (?).

For formula we use Enfalac A+ at a cost of 440 baht per can. The can contains 400 (oz?) not sure. We go thru about 2 - 3 cans per month.

A total cost for diapers and food is about 1600 baht per month.

  15. Thanks for the information about Novotel. I was looking at the reviews of Lee Garden and noticed some posts about the rooms being old and smelly.

The Novotel was priced higher, but I did find a price of 1300 Baht on the net. I don't mind spending a bit more as my family will be joining me.

I have had experience of not booking before and show up and have gotten a better rate. The risk is that they may be booked.

    Thanks,

    James

Try the pink lady hotel its right next to lee gardens, not too expensive either.

The name sounds a litle dubious and I will be with my family.
