  1. Thank you for your replies. Yes, it sounds mid tone to me. I got the tone partly from http://thai-language.com/dict, saL watL deeM I suppose วั makes it a dead ending. On https://thai-notes.com/reading/tonerules.html, it says a high consonant live is rising and dead is low. Would you say then that this is over simplifying matters because it does not mention stress?
  2. Why is ส in สวัสดี low tone but ส is a high tone consonant? I thought as it is a high sonorant syllable it would be a rising tone.
  3. Thank you for explaining that, it has helped me a lot. Thank you for the link too.
  4. I have a question about the two types of lower class consonants, long type and short type (I am unsure of the correct terms for these). These determine when a word with a dead ending has a falling tone because of a long type or high tone because of a short type. For example in the word ยาก (difficult), the consonant ย is considered to be a long type so the word has a falling tone. In the word มด (ant), the consonant ม is considered to be a short type so the word has a high tone. I have a list of lower class consonants: ท ม น ค ว ร ล ง ย พ ฟ ช ภ ฆ ฌ ญ ฑ ฒ ณ ธ ฬ ฮ. My question is, which of these are considered to be short and which long?
  5. It is quite a large parcel. Is there a commercial service I could use?
  6. I intend to move to Bangkok and look for an apartment after I get there. I want to post a parcel to pick up after I arrive but I do not have an address to post it to. I estimate it might take a couple of months for the parcel to get there. Does anybody have any idea how I could go about this?
