  1. Hi all,

I'm doing some research on the number of times certain words are represented in certain places in Google.

Some of this I want to do in Thailand and would like to search for the following words.

I've tried to get the correct script in all, but any of you let me know if there are any obvious errors?

    Thanks.

    noodle: ก๋วยเตี๋ยว

    beer: เบียร์

    temple: วัด

    brothel: ซ่อง

    silk: แพร

    Bank: ธนาคาร

    Crime: อาชญากรรม

    Sex: เพศ or กาม

    Jesus: พระเยซู

    Buddha: พระโคตมพุทธเจ้า or พระพุทธเจ้า

    Thanks again...

  2. Would it not be better and cheaper to go to Khon Kaen on the bus and travel locally by Tuk Tuk. Korat and khon Kaen are easy to get around on foot or Tuk Tuk

Well the car will be more for exploring more distant destinations e.g. Packthingchai, Kalasin, Chonnabot etc. So, I think because of this a car would really be the best option.

If anyone there has any tips please let me know.....

Again, I'm just bumping this in the hope that anyone has any ideas on who I can contact about this....

  4. Hi, all.

I will need to rent a car and driver in Korat on the 31st of this month. I will need the car/driver in the Korat area for three days, and then will be staying in Khon Kaen from the 3rd until the 5th of June. Will this be a problem to ask a driver to come to Khon Kaen for those days?

Does anyone have any ideas on what this should cost? and does anyone have any suggestions on where to rent the car and driver? Would it be possible to find a driver who speaks English? and how much more might that raise the cost by?

    Thanks very much.....

Standardprice is 1.500 THB/day including a driver. In addition you pay for the gas.

The link is an example from Khon Kaen.

Cheers. You (or anyone) don't happen to know any good contacts to arrange one in Korat do you?

Just bumping this again in the hope that anyone can give me some tips on where to get a car and driver in Korat. Cheers.

    Thanks....

  8. I have been told that Internet speeds in Isaan can be quite slow. I don't live there myself, but I am writing about the place and I would like some insider info about Internet usage there. I realize Isaan is a big place and that speeds likely vary greatly in different parts of the region.

But, what sort of speeds can most people get in various urban and rural places there? and what are the costs?

What are the fastest speeds that can be obtained in the cities and in the countryside? and what is the cost for that?

    Thanks in advance.....

  9. You can get there by the river from Bangkok, just search Bang Sai on yahoo or google and it will give details of tours.

Sorry, I must be searching for the wrong thing or overlooking it somehow. Can you tell me the phrases you searched for or provide a link.

Thanks and apologies if this is a dumb question.

    Cheers.

  10. The place you are looking for is the Bang Sai Royal Folk and Art and Craft Centre. It is situated in Bang Sai which is close to Bang Pa In between Bangkok and Ayutthaya. You can make a good day out with a long morning visit to the Centre and a couple of hours looking around the Summer Palace at Bang Pa In.We have been a couple of times when we have visitors and it is very enjoyable.

Thanks. Do you know how to get there by public transit from Bangkok?

    Cheers :o

  11. HEllo again,

Well I asked her and she said she said she couldn't take money as she is not a professional and would feel bad if she couldn't translate some technical words for you. I offered to put you in touch with her to discuss your requirements but I think shyness got the better of her and she declined. I'll a couple of my students who have pretty good English skill. But you know its Songkran and many people will be busy playing with water!

SOrry to draw a blank on the first one. Will keep looking. This forum was good to me when I first came here and I am happy to return the goodwill where I can.

    Good luck!

Ps. Can you give some idea of the content of what you want translating. PM me if its confidential.

oh well, thanks very much for trying. I appreciate it.

Basically what I will need help with, is interviews with silk merchants and silk weavers. I am not asking them anything too complicated - basically just stuff about how they sell their silk, to whom, the designs on the silk and things like this.

I can probably get away with not having any help on the Songkran weekend, but if people have time after that, it would be really useful.

    Thanks again very much.

  12. I have a friend who lives here (in Korat) SHe's just finished her MBA and is twiddling her thumbs. I'll ask her if she is interested and get back to you.

1000bht a day is not bad money. She is however, not short of money.

Thank you very much. If she has time to help that would be fantastic. I am looking forward to hearing back....

  13. Does anyone know where the Queen Sirikit Weaving Center is in the Ayutthaya region? I have been told by a few people that it is near Ayutthaya, but no one seems to know exactly where. Does anyone know? And if so, do you have any suggestions on how to get there from Bangkok or Ayutthaya?

    Thanks very much....

  14. Hi all,

I will be travelling to Korat (Patong Chai) in a week or so to follow up with some of my research on the Thai textile industry. I have some interviews lined up there for a few days, but it would be really helpful to have some Thai students help me interpret during the interview. Does anyone know where I begin to contact reliable assistants with a good grasp of English? I understand that the universities are now on break. Will this make it easier or more difficult to get student to help me there? I do have a small budget from my Uni and can pay between 500 - 1000bt a day for their time, so I imagine this will help me to find somebody.

Any ideas or suggestion will be much appreciated.

    Thanks very much in advance....

I am just bumping this in case anyone has any good suggestions.

    Thanks.......

and bumping it again in the hope of help.

    thanks.....

  16. Maybe send some baggage first and then fly. Just a thought. I'd hate to sit on a bus for 20 hours or whatever it is. Or chuck some of the things you dont really need.

The problem is I have about 46 kilos which I am allowed to check in on my flight from Singapore. But none of the airlines flying to Singapore will let me take that much :o I am in this situation because the airline told me that I could move my flight from Singapore to Bangkok if I needed to, and now when I call them to do it they tell me it is not allowed.

  18. Is there a direct bus to Singapore from Bangkok? The reason I ask is because I am way over on my luggage allowance for any airline that does the route. I realize how far Singapore is, but I am just curious if any buses do the trip. I seem to recall a guesthouse I was in once advertising such a service.

    Thanks in advance.

  19. Try this place, you get a room with all you need for about 700 to 800bt per night. Really clean rooms, sat tv et al. Although watch out for the girls on reception they're realy on top and, can be quite agressive according to some. I did not have any problems though.

Just pay each day before you stay.

There's a smart pool on the roof too, don't dive in as its about 5ft deep.

We stayed there last April and were pleasantly surprised as we usually splash out when in large city's. Its close to the actio and far enough away to find quiet.

Its also about 3 minutes walk from the river taxi....!

    Rambutree Village.

    redrus

Thanks very much. This place sounds affordable and good. Do you know if they have wifi there though?

    Thanks again :o
