  1. God's honest truth. On my first trip to Thailand back in 2002 I left my wallet with 40,000 baht in a taxi while changing hotels in the Sukumvit area of Bangkok. Later that night the taxi driver returned my wallet to me at my hotel. I was so grateful that I gave him 1000 baht reward. I was told later that I gave him too much. For me it was worth it. This would never happen back in New York! I immediately fell in love with Thailand.

In Europe is a non written law to compensat with 10% of the sum

  2. they say 60'000 $ and how about ... cheesy.gif

Thailand: Import and Export of Currencies

Import: You are allowed to import any currency in any amount to Thailand – including the Thai Baht! If you take foreign currency in value of more than US $ 10.000 US $ into Thailand an import declaration at the customs at arrival is recommended in your own interest. Otherwise you may run into problems if you take the amount out of Thailand again – see below.

Export: In case you export foreign currencies in value of more than US $ 10.000 US you have to proove the former import of the money at the immigration. In case you get searched – which is rather rare for tourists – the customs could confiscate your money as a provision against money laundering, etc. The export of Thai Baht is restricted to 50.000 Baht (about 1250 Euro or 1500 US $) per person. You are however allowed to export up to 500.000 Baht to Thailands neighbouring countries of Malaysia, Camboscha, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar.

  3. Test link in English not working. Anyone else having same problem?

First at all the English is not working and for me with German mother language but well speaking English very hard to understand how a Thai brain think. Many questions are really such stupid to be just a trap.

I drive since 45 years enormous kilometers without crash.

biggrin.png I fail 3 times the test on Computer. The lady from the office of land and transport was very kind and help me to do the test again with me .... we both fail together and by this she was generous and gave me the driver license for car for 5 years :-) ... I think it is better to go to Khao San road in BKK and ask for any driver license :-) !!! Beside I have the unlimited Swiss driver license and 5 year Indonesian which is valid in all Asean Member countries as the Thai one. cheesy.gif

  4. Who it concern your wife as long she have ID card or Passport from an ASEAN Member country no visa is needed and can stay 21 days. In your case I do not see any chance, only e-visa is the fastest or in a Vietnamese Embassy ...... eg BKK is possible 24 hour sbut plus express fees. Right from 27th April until 2nd May are holidays in Vietnam (I am at the moment).

Australia is a ASEAN member country as far as I know is it not??? so can i get in to vietnam ???

I just checked and Australia is not ASEAN member b ut why does the Australian foreign minister attend all the ASEAN meetings?

MAYBE BY COURIOSITY cheesy.gif and spoil money

AUSTRALIA is deinitively not an ASEAN Member country

  6. I think this topic shouldn't be moved to motorbike because it concern a general topic for all vehicules.

Important is, you register your vehicule at your name.

After you go to the office for Land and Transport and ask for an ITP (International Transport Passport - the violet book).

They translate you motorbike or care datas into English on a additional A4 paper and deliver you a small violet booklet.

With this you can travel to all neighbour countries. The first proceeder takes maybe 30 minutes on the border, if you come back for a next trip just few minutes because all datas stay registred in the computer of custom and easy can beprinted out the forms you need for the neighbour country. Fees depend on your office, I paid at all in Prachuap Khiri Khan near 400 Bath. Each year you have to renew the ITP but cost less. wai.gif

  7. I'm not on a retirement extension, but afaik you need 800,000 baht in the bank for extension based on retirement, regardless of whether you are married or not.

    That's what I understand also.

800K or a mixture of deposit and declared income that adds up to 800K.

Or you get the marriage extension for 400K as you mentioned.

Yes you are correct and this they ask me each year in immigration !!!

I think from the simple information that in PATTAYA something changed we go very far now and it it to read in the homepage of IMMIGRATION too :jap:

  8. My wife went to Soi 5 this morning to do my 90 day report on my behalf. All she had with her was my passport and the completed TM47. Nothing else asked for, she said she was in and out in around 10 minutes.

I don't know what all the fuss is about.

:whistling: very easy to explain .... the fuss is not all immigration handle the matters in same style. On my immigration it seem still same .... but how long?

  9. This is half correct: If you have a single NON O you are right but if you have tendency to travel you ask from begining a NON IMM with multiple entry, so the re-entry is included, as I have, then you could go in and out each day as much you want and pay one time (I not remember now the exact amount)

I doubt that many people on extensions that require 90-day reporting would be in that situation.

Besides which that's only good for 15 months max., at which time you have to get another multiple-entry visa outside Thailand at a further cost of approximately 5000B (and which apparently is quite hard to obtain these days).

I'll stick with my 30B 90-day report, renewable indefinitely here on a yearly basis, thanks.

Darrel - yea it seems if you want to travel around it can start to get a bit complex. Are you on a marriage or a retirement extension? I assume you have to show the required funds each year before you renew? 800k I believe?

For renew 1 year NON IMM O as retired, you have to show refunds 400'000 if married with Thai woman, 800'000 if single or min. 65'000 THB income per month or a mixte of both.

  10. HOTANDHUMID ....As I do and my immigration accept. If I don't go out for travel etc. I have to report after 90 days. If during this 90 days I go out, the 90 days start new from the date I re-enter and is stamped in my passport and immigration card! That's it :jap:

There you go, someone who did understand my simple question and gave me an answer in simple English.

    Cheers, bear.

Yes you are getting mixed up,if you leave the country you will have to go to immigration first to get a re-entry which costs you 1000 Baht.

So in fact instead of reporting your 90 days stay which is free, you will have to go and report that you are leaving the country instead and want to return 2 days later and even pay money for that.

This is half correct: If you have a single NON O you are right but if you have tendency to travel you ask from begining a NON IMM with multiple entry, so the re-entry is included, as I have, then you could go in and out each day as much you want and pay one time (I not remember now the exact amount)

THank you hotandhumid .... this is the point, to much like have fun here as in a Facebook game and some proud UK people are unhappy if you don't write perfect english and forget the importance is help each other by short and clear messages, I think in Thailand have not only UK Farangs? Cheers

  12. Lot of open questions within that message... but having checked the homepage of the Embassy here in Switzerland, I do not see any change for tourists from Visa excempt countries.

I would therefore also assume that people who need a Visa and stay with friends, will need an invitation letter as they did before...

But then again... typical Thai way... issue new rules with immediate effect.... but don't be precise... and specially do not let the people know who must deal with it (consulates etc)... otherwise all the fun would be gone from issuing unclear rules :whistling:

Hello Swiss1960, I am Swiss too and don't trust what you see on the WEB of Thai Embassy in Switzerland, with actual informations they mostly 1 - 2 years late. So it happen to me 3 years ago when I fly to Switzerland to make new 1 year visa. Before they ask few papers, this time about 12 items ....!! Few paper need time to get it from Swiss authotrity as eg. criminal report from Bern but I had my fly after 4 days and left Switzerland woth a only 60 day tourist visa, lost a lot of money etc.! I try to explain them nothing is written in home page and instead a 1 year visa I got a SOLLY ... we don't care! After I managed here a non immigration as retired! The only info you can trust, consult before you apply the WEB of immigration here :whistling:

  13. It seem the new conditions for 60/90 days tourist visa isn't enoung nonsense, now I read in German news (translated by google) there are also news for reporting 90 days ..... let's hope it not spread over whole country ..... because all documents are requested in Thai language :annoyed:

Pattaya Immigration Department changed the rules for three-month reporting requirement

The "Pattaya Immigration Office" in Jomtien has announced a new scheme. All foreigners with a residence permit for one year must submit their next 90-day reporting requirement additional documents.

Pattaya pp. From now apply to foreigners with an annual visa at their next new mandatory reporting requirements. Besides the usual additional copies of the following documents must be submitted with documents.

Passport: Copy of both sides with information identifying the passport holder.

Copy of the white arrival / departure card.

Copy of the page with the currently valid visa stamp.

Residence: Copy of the lease or a utility bill,

for married couples who own a house in Thailand:

Copy of the Register House (signed by the wife)

IMPORTANT: All documents must be in Thai language.

  14. It's know that Van driver are the worst in Thailand, many haven't license or cover passernger by insurance. Last check by police resault near 10%. This are the cowboys on the road.

If I use trransport and not own car, I like the large buses and we have a new Bus Terminal in Hua Hin with new buses for Chiang Mai and/or Korat direct. Here I found the link.
