House rental prices
Thanks for the replies so far. maybe 20k is unrealistic, I dont know. I'm ok at 25k but would like to keep it under 30k. I dont need huge outdoor space, just a little area that I can be outside but still be away from prying eyes.. I am also heavily considering Phuket. Am surprised to hear that it may be cheaper. So I should look for signs and spoken word? Yes most of what I see online seems to be double what is a reasonable price If not Samui, I am thinking about the East side of Phuket, as it is close to many small islands.. Suggestions are welcome, I'd like cheap rent, not too local of area (feel out of place), and hopefully within 25min of a marina/water ... Maybe I am dreaming

House rental prices
How much does it cost these days to rent a house in Samui? I looked online but everything there is 30-50k on the low end .. I understand its high season. Anything available in the 20-25k range? Would like to see a private/fenced yard for solitude. 2 bedroom Also curious for those who know, are the houses generally cheaper or more expensive than in Phuket?

Relaxing outside and being alone
Looking for advice. This turned out pretty long so appreciate anyone who can read and share their thoughts. Before coming to Thailand, I lived in Canada BC, mostly on the outskirts of a small-ish city. Forest service roads were just a 20 minutes away. Alot of my relaxing and winding down time was spent in the "bush", offroading, camping, etc, just enjoying the nature and outdoors, or just in the driveway/yard, taking in sun maybe work on my vehicle or a project. Now I've been in Asia 2 years and thailand 1 year, and this is the thing I miss the most and cannot find here. it has bothered me since I got here, it feels like there is nowhere I can go outside and relax and be alone I'm living in Bangkok in an apartment and before this I stayed in various hotels for a year, of course that has not helped. I've done some travelling to a few islands, hua hin, near ao nang, among other places, rented a bike, and this helped but not much. Outside areas like hiking trails, beach, parks dont really scratch the itch. Theres always many people and its hard for me to actually relax and have some wind-down time. I think having a house with a secluded driveway/yard would help. In Canada I could drive 20-30 minutes, find a nice outdoor area and spend the day if I wanted to, and not see anybody. You could camp pretty much anywhere in the forest, find nice spot near a creek or lake and just feel the stress etc of daily life wash away. In Thailand, and obviously Bangkok, I cant find any of this. Even in other areas of thailand, it feels like as soon as I leave my room, many eyes are on me, and there are no "public" areas to go that arent crowded or full of people. I dont know if there is large "crown" land/public land people can just go to enjoy recreation like in Canada, it seems like everything is private property, crowded parks/beaches/hike trails , and national parks. But even these nationals parks and hiking trails, I dont think you are supposed to leave the beaten path. People wouldnt appreciate for example creating a mountain bike trail here. I dont think camping is a thing in thailand, at least not like in Canada, where you can skip the paid designated "camping parks" and go find some nice private secluded area. Maybe if I went somewhere rural, I could find something like this, but i dont want to live in a rural area where I am the only foriegner. And if I stay in more "foreigner friendly" areas, then it is sure there will be nothing like this nearby. I see the sunlight light shining in from my balcony now, and just feel like im locked in a cage. Even on the balcony there is just a building next to me with a wall of people, its hard to get away. Wondering if anyone has felt similar and found ways of dealing with it, or maybe some new places i could look at travelling to or living.

Buying used bike process
theres lots on facebook marketplace under 10k that say they have the book/papers. Blue? Or green? Not really sure long as the brakes and lights work, not completely clapped out, should be ok? I used to do inspections back home, just on transport trucks not bikes. Anything minor I think the shop can fix quickly during inspect. Kind of looking for helpful answers here but thanks..

Buying used bike process
Anyone familiar with inspection, transferring ownership, insurance etc? Going to get a cheap bike soon in the 6-10k range, maybe off fb marketplace, and want a smooth quick process. My understanding is, I pay cash, get a power of attorney letter, copy of ID, blue book and keys from seller, take the bike for inspection, then bring bike to (chatuchak) DLT, with my CoR, copy of visa + passport? then I buy insurance after? How long until I have plates etc? Should I/can I use a title transfer service? My CoR expires on monday.. today its friday morning. If I buy a bike today or this weekend, can I bring everything in on monday and have everything done same day? Can I drive bike around while waiting? Anything I should look out for as far as scams/fake paperwork? in Canada, we just need seller signature and the registration paper. Go to insurance office any day of week and it takes 20 min. Not like thailand

Residence certificate with Tourist Visa?
Yea I was. He said the first CoR I gave him is only for motorbike, cannot do car license. They’ve probably updated the CoR since you last seen it, now it has the purpose specified

Residence certificate with Tourist Visa?
I went there today, this is not true. The CoR specifies if its for car, bike, bank etc. I handed him one for a bike and he said I cannot have car license unless I have a 2nd CoR for that. luckily I had both

Opening bank account with DTV (share your stories)

Residence certificate with Tourist Visa?
an update to my own question and some info for others: Here is the updated CoR application as of today. They added a box so you can ask for as many CoR pages as you need. The requirements are also stapled to the front. Like Tod said, all thats required is: - copy of passport photo/data page - copy of passport stamp - copy of tm30 (MUST BE 10+ DAYS) they said my 1 night tm30 wasn’t enough, I had to come back with a 10+ day tm30. also, its 200b per CoR you want. I got 4, two for motorbike + car license, one for motorbike ownership and one for bank account. So 800b. another thing, I’m on a DTV so I brought a copy of dtv visa and they took that, but not sure if its required.

Residence certificate with Tourist Visa?
Was there an option to ask for multiple CoR pages? It looks like you get 1 for a license and 1 for registering a vehicle, but what if I want 3 or 4 to open bank, register bike, get bike DL, etc

5 year multiple entry DTV visa (Destination Thailand) from 2024-xx-xx
I wonder if I could use an agent to get the CoR sooner than 90 days? I want to get a scooter + licence and thai bank account. But don’t want to wait 90 days, then another several weeks for CoR, etc

Interesting. I had never even considered that I may need to do 90-day reporting until I read your comment earlier. There was nothing during my visa process/research to indicate that. But I see now that DTV holders will likely have to report. You’d think there would be mention of this somewhere, if its required… The average person who is not well versed on thai visa policy, who enters on a DTV, will probably not even be aware they need to report

90-day reporting is not required on the dtv regardless of length of stay, as far as I understand

I thought I had read somewhere that you shouldn’t apply more than 3 months before your intended travel date. But I cannot quote it.

No need to be sour about it. It's really not extreme. Do you need to know which officer stamped me in? and the exact day I entered? You might be surprised what kind of havoc someone can wreak upon your life just using what you've posted online. Maybe you should post your visa stamp. The embassy in Vancouver Canada issued my visa. It only took about 2 days. They said I needed minimum 6 weeks of Muay Thai, but the Ottawa embassy said 3 months so I applied with 3 months to be safe. My letter of confirmation said nothing about the amount of hours or classes I'd be doing. If you want to know more, just ask.

Probably unnecessary but I’m just careful about putting my info online. It’s possible someone could use those numbers to reveal my identity, mess with my visa status, etc
