  1. Maybe it’s just me, but I doubt it. I’ve had BCBS FEP for 8 years and it’s always been great. Quick and reasonable settlement of overseas claims the past 5 years. That is up until Jan 1 of 2024, when they changed out their partner for overseas claims to CareFirst, whoever that is. Since then their claims processing has gone straight down the toilet. Let me give you an example: In 2021 my son was born with a case of pneumonia and spent 1- days in the NICU. I submitted the final discharge and billing I received on discharge and the claim was paid in a week. Fantastic. This April my daughter was born in the same hospital, I received the identical paperwork and submitted it. A week goes by, then a month, then two months. I call to get the status. I was told that due to the aforementioned processor change that they were backed up and experiencing longer delays. After another few weeks I called again and they said they would escalate in priority. After 3 months the claim is denied and I’m told they need all documents regarding the case from a list of 7 different document categories. I spend 3 full days on travel -I’m not local to the hospital - to obtain all these documents. I submit all the documents and after two more weeks the claim is approved. Total time elapsed from initial submission to payout: 2 days short of four months. I got to carry the $5.5K bill for that time. There is no way I’ll accept this level of incompetence from BCBS. I’ll be reviewing my options and replacing this insurance this coming open season.
