  1. The one in Khon Kaen. But unless someone can give me a good reason to stay there, it'll be Roi Et.
  2. Find a Thai wiphu, of course. 🫠 Just kidding. Will have to work most days and would mainly explore the area in my free time. As mentioned, I want to learn some Thai, hoping there's a language school in town or courses at Roi Et university (I know I know, people speak Isaan rather than Thai, but one has to start with something). Might also be a good way to meet people. Not a party animal, so I don't need much in terms of night life. I know it's hard to make friends with locals even if the language barrier wasn't a problem. But keeping expectations low, I'm still keen to give it a shot.
  3. I think the house is in central Roi Et city/town, but I'll talk to my friend tomorrow and can provide the exact area.
  4. Sorry, should have clarified it would be the capitals. I wouldn't want to start my Isaan experience in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, though I know both towns aren't exactly big either.
  5. A friend’s mother-in-law owns houses in Roi Et and Chum Phae, where I could stay for an extended period, practically for free. I’ve never been to Isaan and don’t know a soul in either place, but I’m itching to finally see more of LOS than the usual touristy places. I’m also keen to learn some Thai while I’m there, so I can at least communicate at a bare minimum. My plan would be to stay for two months in the first instance, and longer if I really like it. Rather than spending one month in each place, I’d prefer dipping my feelers in one place for both initial months. Assuming the skirmish with Cambodia blows over, or at least won’t extend to these areas, which place would you Isaan connoisseurs out there recommend?
  6. I’ll be in Chiang Mai for two months from September and don’t want to drag my guitar along on the ride. Is there any chance to buy a super cheap second hand acoustic guitar in CM so I can keep practicing and serenade my missus? Maybe there’s even the option to borrow one? Any type of acoustic is fine, as long as it’s cheap and doesn't fall apart at the first attempt of tuning it. Would greatly appreciate any pointers. 🙂
