After being in SE Asia for past 16 years... I know the formula of becoming multimillionaire here and be a ruling elite. .. 1. Keep the population under educated... for example only 47% in Thailand complete higher education. 2. Give them limited access to english language so that they don't understand or be able to seek much awareness. 3. Keep feeding them with inputs that they are the best and other countries are not much good. 4. Time to time dole out freebies to public and keep accumulating wealth self (ruling elites). The masses over the decades will believe in the loop and carry on to believe that their masters are the best...

For me I see it as an article trying to put certain nationalities in bad light. Times are changing, till the time EU countries and few others were benefiting from 60 + 30 + 30 days visa it was ok... now with the changing economic conditions across the globe the other nationalities are also traveling... spending money and also investing. Just lamenting certain nationalities won't help the cause. Other nationals making inroads into thai tourism is causing business turf war... some will gain... some will lose... but nothing illegal can be done without involvement of the local authorities... and their connivance.

It's matter of few more years... Songkran will lose it cultural significance... as it is ... past couple of years... it has changed drastically... thanks to extreme commercialization of Songkran by Authorities...

This year the attendees were lesser than last year... but TAT will never accept... Huge number of bookings were canceled after the Myanmar earthquake. I feel they will postpone it further as the tourists number are going down. To counter the claims, I always read tourists related news of Bali, Malaysia and Vietnam. As per Vn Express news... Vietnam is seeing 24% more Chinese, Korean and Taiwanese tourists than Thailand...

Their is no influx of tourists... airport lines are as usual ... nothing much... and criminals are inside the country not waiting at airport... every evening they line up at all areas frequented by tourists ... murmuring, taunting, pushing, heckling, soliciting... Hotels in tourists areas were showing 40% higher rates than normal hoping throngs of tourists... and from last night most of them are showing down to 10% high... and by 13 and 14 Apr it will go down further... the over hyped balloon will burst...
