  1. It would be nice to know exactly what the purpose of this program is ?

If the isp created this by themself, i'm sure they could give you an answer, if you asked them.

Without knowing this, it would be very difficult to proof malicious intent.

Maybe it's used for updating purposes ?

I have to say though, Thais programmers aren't the best in the world either...

  2. Sometimes, antivirus software misstakenly identify programs to be virus/trojans.

What was the isp's intention with this proggie, and what does it do ?

I doubt they'd knowingly release malicious software to their customers, why would

    they do that ?

They already told you what it was for

"The infected file is need for our software to run propperly and is programmed inhouse by ourself!"

The only reason I can see, why they would wanna contact an antivirus manufacturer about it, is to get the program of their target list.

I don't see why you bringing it to their attention, should reward you any benefit ?

I'm even surprised you managed to arrange a 4 hour meeting over this issue.

    Gees, I wish I was there :o

  3. I think the provincial politicians would be extremely happy, if more foreigners came to live there.

They are very well aware, of the success story of phuket etc.

Like a local politicians wet dream.

Contrary to popular belief, there is almost not an ounce of racism in Thai people.

They don't hate foreigners, just love our money.

Infact they love it so much, they don't care if you die in the process of extracting it.

Poor people here, get the same "racist treatment" as immigrants

    in developed countries.

They don't judge you by your skin, but by your wallet.

I even think creatures from another planet would be welcome here, as long as they

    have the cash.

They only call them "con plaek", charge e'm, and go on with their business as usual. :o

  4. I dont know how much it was never a valid legal option or even tolerated but abused..

I havent been on VOA's now for a few years.. However a couple of years back a non imm B was expiring and the penang triple tourist visa looked more workload in extensions etc so I put a shirt and a smile on, and went to my immigration office.

I asked them about going for another non imm B with an invite letter.. No no just do visa run Ranong.

I asked them the details of extending tourist triples to get 9 months from the 6.. No no more expensive just go Ranong easy.

I asked about ED visa if I was studying language.. No no.. Why farang want make problem.. Go bus Ranong 1 time one month.

I asked about non imm O and the investor amounts and types of accounts they accepted.. Go bus Ranong 30 day stamp.

Basically I was trying every legal avenue I could think of, I was doing my best to establish a framework to increase my permanence and all they wanted, all they suggested, the complete push of their advise was 'why bother with all this complex stuff, why bother getting anything, just get on the bus Gus'..

So when you go to the immigration office (mine is hyper friendly BTW) trying to find out the information of how best to do what I figured should be done and the people in charge of giving information and advising you what to do simply push the option of visa runs is it really the farangs fault that so many people have in the past thought it was the best solution ??

    I agree with you 100%

Unless you are on very good terms with the immigration authorities,

(Your wife's uncle just happen to work there, etc).

Don't expect to get all the avenues laid out before you.

Their lazy as hel_l, and just hates doing anything out of the ordinary.

After making visas here for several years, i've seen it with my own eyes,

foreigners being ignored, one after the other.

    It's Thaistyle.

In the good old days you were asked to bring a bottle of fine whisky at each

    visa renewal.

Not anymore, but it's still expected, if you know what I mean...

If they don't ask for it, it's not extortion.

They just ignore you until they see you in a "favoureable light".

  5. The Thai authorities also spend time on this forum thereby learning how to adjust their rules and regulations to reach out and touch those of us that think we are immune from their reach.

If so, not much seems to have been learned by all the feedback here...

For instance, different immigration offices has different rules.

Many foreigners are being forced to plea their cases in Bangkok only, as the

local immigration offices says it can't be done, or claim different rules.

(has been posted in several threads).

No improvement there over the years.

I could give plenty of other examples, that should concern any "authoritorian person"

    visiting here.

Offcourse, I wish they would come here.

Just doesn't seem to be happening.

  6. Help me understand this right.

If you get a clearance letter, you wouldn't need a WP, but would still be eligible for

extensions on your Visa right ?

This would be beneficial if you were under 50 years of age, and not married to a Thai.

BUT, as BKK90210 state, in his reply fom the labor dep:

    4. A marriage certificate between him and his Thai wife

So,you have to be married to qualify for this ?

If so, it effectively closes the loophole being created, that would allow

an under 50 years of age,not married person, to extend his visa, without the need for a WP...

The only other way (that I know of), for you to not need a WP and being under 50,

is if you're married, and declares the wife's income.

I don't really understand the tax issue squabbles.

If the company is located in the US, and he pays taxes there, great.

Would the thai tax department come after you if you get this clearance thingy, I don't see why ?

  7. Are you sure the DVD-RW drive is indeed a DVD writer ?

Sometimes, cause of labeling, people misstake DVD-RW combo drives

    as being DVD writers.

In that case you can only write CD's.

Maybe you have a model name ?

  8. Converting to NTFS isn't a good idea, but can be done.

    From MSDN blog:

Go to Device Manager and set the policy of the USB Stick device to "Optimize for Performance". The default is to optimize for Quick Removal, which restricts you to the FAT filesystem.

If you do this, then you absolutely must go through the the annoying removal dialog to unmount the filesystem before unplugging the drive. If you don't, then you have a good chance of losing data.

  9. A lot of people come here and try to set up Little England or Germany, Italy , Australia or whatever . Again nothing wrong with that but it does not have to be like that.

Germans seems to be very good at that :o

I have 2 german friends living nearby.

Coming in to their houses, it's all "Home sweet home" :D

One of e'm even imported a whole bathroom setup from Germany.

Copper pipes, stainless steel brand name taps, shower cubicle, etc etc.

I guess water tapped from the thai standard blue pvc pipes, gives him an itch :D

  10. If you are going to forward any ports from your router, you'll need an static ip.

Here's a good reference site that has setup instructions for most of e'm:

    http://www.portforward.com/

This is especially important for p2p appz.

being portforwarded makes you "visible" to the other clients on the network.

    Hence it'll improve d/l speed.

  11. So basically, what you're saying is that any farang with an income of less than 20,000 Baht a month, considerably higher than the average wage in Thailand, is a cheap Charlie and will not be able to keep a Thai girlfriend. Is that correct?

I don't think it has solely to do with how much money you earn, wether you can stay together

or not, with a Thai lady.

You do however need some kinda income to be able to live.

Nobody can tell you how much that should be.

It's all up to the individual/s.

But do keep in mind, it is very difficult to find a Thai (male or female), that aren't obsessed

    with their financial status.

If you can't live up to their expectation in that regard, you might have problems in a relation ship.

That doesn't mean you should blindly "invest" all your hard earned money just to please her.

It should be a "give and get" relation ship if healthy.

    Thais really worship money.

Perhaps rightfully so, as they can't lean back on any welfare, other than what you can provide.

  12. Root directory, you mean under "My computer" right ?

Click Start=>Run and type in "compmgmt.msc" without the quotes and enter.

In there go to disk management.

Can you see it in there ?

If so, what's the status of your disk ?

  13. When you say "copy all desktop icons", are these shortcuts to programs ?

If it is, simply copying e'm wont do you any good.

Depending on what program it is, some installers will give you the option to install for

all profiles, or, only the one you're in.

Stupid thing is, some programs don't.

You'll then be forced to re-install the software in each profile you wanna use it in.

  14. Ahh that initial glow.. It sure burns bright, it burns hard... and it burns out.

    Spot on :o

Sometimes I wish I could live more like a Thai. (No, honestly)

Think how much money you would save !

Only eat thaifood, no ubc, no DSL,

Going out partying with your friends drinking lao kao...

Unfortunately I can't do that, cause I don't want to.

Part of the joy of being here, is the fact that I can indulge myself with

habits from home whenever I feel like it.

I do have some bounderies though, I think it's called a wife :D

    If I couldn't do that, I think I wouldn't stay.

If you have to "cheap charly" your way thru life here, better do it in your

    home country.

  15. I have a small question.

I've been living here for the last 13 years.

    Married, (registered at amphur)

    (Non-O 400k 1 year extension style + income from wife's business).

    Not working (No workpermit)

I'm under 50 years of age.

My question is: If I were to have a child, what is the proper way of "registering"

that child, so that I would be eligible under 7.15(5) when over 50 ?

Reason for doing this "switch" would be for me to be able to stay,

if something would happen to my wife (good forbid).

  16. I have been to KL twice in an attempt to get a non B to teach. The first time I was turned away due to a " new regulation" which requires a letter of approval from " the office of the education commission". Just a couple of weeks ago, after having this document in hand, my boss called KL and they said " There are no new requirements." I went ahead and booked my flight and hotel ( non refundable). Literally a day later a well informed friend sent me a text telling me about this new criminal check. I called KL... " Ah yes, this is true" they said. My visa was expiring so I went to KL to get a double entry tourist. Now I have to go to Bangkok ( from Phuket) and then leave the country again for the non B.

(By the way, I already got a non B in September by going to Khota Buru, but my paperwork was rejected, along with 10 other teachers at my school, around the time of the coup as a " new regulation" was introduced requiring people to get a letter of verification from their university.)

Anyhow as for the background check for teachers, my boss called the office in Bangkok, it will take 7 working days, it has to be done in person, at present there are no facilities for those of us who need to do it locally, hundreds of miles from Bangkok :o :

After reading what you went thru, It's amazing you're still trying.

    I know I wouldn't.

This whole immigration system is in shambles.

I wonder if these targeted regulations against teachers, has anything to do with the

    JonBenet Ramsey case ?

I mean the scandal, surrounding John Mark Karr, working here as a teacher...
