  1. I am advised that here in Bangkok, alcohol will not be sold from 6pm, Fri 3rd to some unknown point on Sunday due to local elections, 7-11 have withdrawn sales at Fri eve. A Thai friend told me that these local elections were being held in several parts of the country and so it would be a 'dry' weekend in many places, I am advised that Soi Cowboy will not be serving beer, so what about Pattaya? will one be able to legally buy a drink there and not upset the democratic process?

  2. I am trying to find medicine balls of different weights. I would like to buy the ones that are finished in a soft rubber, rather than the hard basketball type balls which I have found in some Bangkok shops. Would be grateful if anyone can advise any suppliers-Bangkok/Pattaya. Thanks.P

  3. It would be nice to think that if there is to be a leicester academy here it will give opportunity for ordinary, poor kids to learn, train and play as per the community approach of English football; the wider the base of the pyramid the better the standard will be.How much football is played by , particularly Bangkok based kids given the dearth of open spaces for them to play in? Too often, too many kids are given the feeling that organised initiatives are 'not for them'. Lets hope Leicester's initiative will address some of these issues and make a much neeeded impact.......we will see....dOO

Should be a law banning foreigners from taking over ENGLISH clubs.

The Thais are all smiles when they go abroad and take over western businesses but become rabid xenophobes when foreigners try to do they same here. Shows how brainwashed many people have become here.

Thats very disrespectful don't you think.

    Disrespectful.......but true

  4. About to return to Sisaket after a long time away, would be grateful if anyone could give updated info on hotels in the city and also in Kantaralak. Thanks.P

  5. I would like to buy wine or whiskey here in Phnom Penh and take with me when i fly back to Bangkok next week. Can anyone advise if I can do this, ie buy a bottle from supermarket here, it would be sealed, could that be part of my hand luggage or not? would rather not pack in the hold in view of possible breakages......realise this is more a question of PP airport but wonder if an international code is followed on this matter.......thoughts anyone...thanks.......P

  6. Pimnimit Sitaran runs small gym at soi suan suwat, near lumpinee tower, near to klong tuoy or lumpinee mrt, get good attention, many other places around catering for different tastes, mon/sat from 3-30, 300b/day or monthly rate available=check.

  7. Isnt this the second such incident there in the past few months???

    Penkoprod

I wouldn't wish to create unnecessary fear but I have long thought that the design of this club, the narrow passage from the main disco area could be a nightmare in an emergency situation, thank our Gods that nothing developed this time. Perhaps the owners could review access and evacuation and ensure it meets 'international' standards......then I might return.....well if they changed the music too......

  8. PP is unpredictable. The last report I recall was not good and the it took 2 days to get the visa.

Vientiane is next day service service. KL and Penang are also good choices for single entry visas. Penang is same day service for tourist visas.

PLeased to report I managed to get the desired 1 entry tourist visa at Phnom Penh. For information of others note; notice on wall in PP embassy states visa applications should be made between 8.30 and 11, collections be made 2 days later in the afternoon-between 3 and 4.30. I asked as pleasantly as possible if i could collect any earlier as I had a plane ticket to leave pp at that time. The assistant told me to write down the flight number and then she changed my collection time from the afternoon to the morning (2 days later) which I was very glad of, I noted my appreciation- shame as seems constantly to be the way,in SEA embassies, that the assistant was as stern, unsmiling and minimising in levity as she could possibly be.........oh well........!

  9. Phnom Penh is unpredictable. We get good reports and then bad ones. Last report was that it now takes 2 days to get your visa done.

For a single entry kL, Penang and Vientiane are all good choices.

It will not matter for any of them that you have had non immigrant visas in the past.

Thanks Joe, have you heard if PP are likely to demand to see onward air ticket out of Thailand? or any other 'unusual' demands?

  10. You can get your cambodian visa on the internet before you leave

nevcross, the above information is not what you asked about; it is about the visa to travel to Cambodia.

If you decide to go and apply for your tourist visa at the Thai consulate in Phnom Penh you can get you visa for Cambodia either at the Cambodian consulate in Bangkok for USD 20, or by email at the web page indicated by waza for USD 25, or on arrival at the Phnom Penh airport for USD 20.

You did not mention your travel plans for Thailand but if you plan to arrive in Thailand twice within 90 days you can get a double-entry tourist visa from the Thai consulate in Vientiane.

Thanks, yes just really wanted to check how long the Thai Embassies in those cities would take to process a tourist visa for THailand, the possibility of extending beyond the 60 days at Suan Plu would be good as I intend a return to the UK In September. If anyone has been to PP recently please advise how long the embassy there took to process the visa.I was a little concerned that PP may be more difficult than Vientiane but have been advised thru another post that that is not necessarily the case.........often a matter of who one comes up against on the day......

  11. Hi, as ever would appreciate advice; I have had several non immigrant multi entryvisas, latest one to expire soon, a couple of things to do here so had in mind to go and get a 2 month tourist visa, (on expiry of non imm visa, and then return to Europe to get a new non imm visa 2 months later)- thought of going to Phnom Penh to get this visa but have just read several posts re the embassy there and their discouraging treatment of visa applicants, I am not sure if this is because applicants previously held tourist visas; would the fact that my recent visa having been 'non immigrant' mean my application be treated more favourably? or should I think of going to Vientiane....or Penang....or somewhere else?........several of the 'discouraging' posts were from a few months ago, any very recent experiences to report.? It doesnt seem so long since there was applause for the waiving of tourist visa fees and the seeming understanding that such moves were necessary to spark some inward movement of farang, has that spirit now gone? have visa fees been re-instated?

    Thanks in anticipation......

  12. A friend has just called from hospital. This morning he was bitten by a dog and has taken advice to get precautionary rabies shots, I would be grateful if anyone can advise if a series of shots are required , how many and what is usual cost?, he has been advised 2500 for first and 500x5 thereafter....is this about right, thanks for speedy help!
