  1. I  live in Muang Nakhon Ratchasima,  (Korat area).  I want to grow strawberries  but  not sure how  they  would do in heat and heavy amounts of rain we receive every year.  Does anyone on this  forum grow strawberries here in Thailand. I would love to hear all about  it.  I am also  open  to  any and all  comments.  Thank you.

  2. Back  a  few  years about 2007  I  inquired  on  ThaiVisa  about growing Comfrey and  received  several  replies.  Today  I  would  like  up-dated  information  on the subject  as  well  as  the  information previously received. Please let me  know  where  to  buy or  obtain plants or seeds  and  any  other information you may have on the subject. Thank you.

  3. My Thai wife seems to  think that we can grow  date palm trees here in Thailand.  I know nothing about how to grow them.  First I would like to hear from  others who have grown date palm trees in Thailand.  What can you say?  Is it a good idea or a waste of time? Is it possible? If you have trees already growing and producing fruit I would love to hear from you.

  4. Hello. I need some help.  My Jackfruit trees in the past and now my Mulberrie trees all of a sudden start to die and are dead in less then a week. I have been advise by a local that is is a type of worm that attacks the roots of the tree. Next day or two the tree drys up and dies.  I need to know the name of this worm and I especially need to know how to kill these worms.  What type/or name of stuff will kill them.  They seem to be spreading from on corner of my yard with the mulberry trees and slowly moving across my yard.

I have a pest control company that comes every 3 months and no more red ants. The little green boxes from BigC never worked.

What affect does the products you use have on vegetables and fruit trees? I have quite a few. Are you located in or near Korat, Nong Bua Sala area?

  6. I am posting this topic here instead of a farming section since ants are a problem for homeowners as well as farmers.  Red Ants in my yard are so bad I can hardly walk through my yard without being stung by one. I have three small mango trees, however, I had ants long before the trees.  They are in or around my gazebo, garden, fruit trees, lawn, house, everywhere.  What can be done about the ants? I have tried several home tricks that only seem to feed them. My Thai wife has tried some type of power that only works a little and disappears when it rains.  I thought about having a pest company spray the entire yard and kill them all. However, I am worried about what else it might kill. Fish in my pond. Vegetables in my garden, etc. I need advise. Please give me your comments and ideas. Thank you.

Thanks for all of the comments and information. I added a water tank to my garden area and it is filled from the MIL well. We have one weeping line layed out so far as a test to see how it works. If all is OK I will add five more lines. Maybe later I will add a pressure pump if needed. I also have a hose connected for plants that need water not supplied by the drip system.  Again, thanks for the help.

  8. I live just outside of Korat on two rai  for house and garden plus fruit trees. I need to install some type of watering system.  I am tired of hauling  hoses every day and standing there watering plants. We have a well next door, MIL, and we are hooked up to village water. I know nothing about what  I need  or should do.  I need advice and information. Please inform me.

  9. I have been on Non O Visa, retired for the past few years now. I have no money at present in a Thai Bank. I have in the past only had 65,000 plus baht income which is now being reduced to approximately 40 to 42.000 Baht per month. So my question is - could I have less than 800K in the bank and only 40 or 42K in income monthly to qualify? If so, how much would I be required to hold on deposit in a Thai Bank? Thank you.

My Thai chum makes guitars and has a few shops dotted around Ubon. He speaks English...Heart & Soul Music, Ubon Ratchathani..

Business is on facebook but he is the only one that speaks English as far as I know and is out and about, but you could just send a message and see what happens..

I could have a chat personally with him if you like..

I contacted Heart and Soul on facebook today. They are rebuilding Guitar Custom Shop at the present time. What I need to know for future use is: When will rebuilding be complete and they are back in business? And mainly, do they make or can they make a Tenor Guitar.? Not everyone knows what a Tenor Guitar is including me a few months ago  - so I suggest one go to U-Tube and listen to TenorLord. That man can really play a Tenor Guitar. Many others are on there too. Or, google wikipedia and search for Tenor Guitar.

If you have the time or just happen to see your friend I would appreciate you asking him my questions.   Thank you.

Do you mean a bass guitar? 4 strings. If so, the son is selling his and it's electric plug in as well. Make me an offer and I will pass it on.

A Tenor Guitar is a four string instrument having only strings 1 - 4 of a standard guitar.  A bass guitar has four or five strings and is a much different instrument which is meant to carry the bottom, lower tones of a song, wereas the tenor carries only the higher tones.

  12. I hope this is the correct place to post this request. If not, moderators please move it to the appropriate place.

I am looking to purchase in Thailand a Tenor Guitar, new or used. A Tenor Guitar has only four strings.  Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  13. I know what I am looking for but I can't find it anywhere on goggle or here. I must be spelling it wrong or the plant goes by another name. We see it everywhere in Thailand, covering wire shaped animals along the roads in Bangkok, along fences, and many other places. It looks like a vine that grows maybe two meters long. Has small deep green leaves. Trained up on a trellis it looks like a hedge. Please tell me the correct name if you know and a link to it also if you can. Thank you very much. bubbaba

  14. I use the black shade cloth. Is it better than another product - I don't know. I just set up most of wicking bed this year, so, in another year or so, or whenever, they need to be cleaned, I will find out then. If too much soil seeps down into the gravel I will try to find another product. So far the plants seem to get sufficient water. I just have to water the seeds and smal plants when I first plant them.

  15. Ag Fair/Show - Where in Korat? Will be for how long?

Behind my property there is a retired Thai policeman who raises goats. He use to have a sign out front. My wife said he sells goats and is getting me the number. I will post it when I get it in case anyone is interested or still needs goat information. He/we are only 13 kilometers from the Mall Korat. You pass our road (about 5 kilometers) every time you go from Korat to the new immigration office.

  16. Hello. Most of the time I can goggle up anything. Today I can goggle up nothing. Does anyone on here have a list or know what Thai's call the different vegetables? I was looking for the Thai word for each of the following: zucchini squash; mustard greens; and collards. I would however like a list of all vegetables if anyone has such or list or the knowledge. Would be good vocab for us who cook and garden. I know Thai's raise collards and mustard greens because I have seen them in the garden in the past. Thanks.

  17. Hello. I would like to build some raised beds using the standard hollow cement blocks available here in Thailand. I will grow any and all vegetables that I can grown in Thailand in them. If I only build two or three blocks high is it necessary to build a beam first to support the blocks? A beam with iron or simply a cement beam? Does anyone here have any experience with this. How to build. How do the beds work? Too hot? Too dry? Works good. Any and all advise welcome. Thanks John
