  1. Phuket’s 'Gateway' project gets the go-ahead

PHUKET: -- The Phuket provincial authorities have approved a 42 million baht budget for the construction of a “Gateway” to the island, according to a senior provincial official, Anchalee Vanichthepabutr.

“It will be the first point of contact for travellers who come to Phuket by land,” Mrs. Anchalee told TNA on Monday.

The gateway project would impress tourists visiting the island resort, and would ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike, she said.

Construction of the project is planned to start next year.

The planned building will include offices for police and immigration officials.

One of the authorities key priorities would be to prevent illicit goods, or contraband being smuggled into the province, Mrs. Anchalee said.

The project is to be located on a 12.5-rai (2.5 rai = 1 acre) plot of land near the Tha Chatchai Checkpoint in Thalang district.

Wow Phuket will be conferted into a second Monaco or Saint Tropez ?

I know the IT hub with 1 Gb speed ( fiber optics ) will setup soon with TOT, A korean invester invest 1 Bil BHT into a new marina in Bang Tao Beach ( West coast ) and much more.

  2. We are expecting a baby daughter in December and intend visiting the UK with her around July next year.

Am I correct to assume that I can register my daughter for British citizenship / passport application on arrival?

If so then apart from the Thai birth certificate with English translation copy is there anything else that needs to be done at the Thailand end?

    Many thanks.

    Update:-

Just had a thought after posting this ...I forgot I would have to get her a visa on her Thai passport which will involve some work so I might as well go the extra mile and get her a British passport in advance...it probably won't involve any more hassle than just having to apply for the visa!

When apply for a visa you need a Thai pasport, so advice is apply for both Thai and GB pasport, or your daughter can be in her moms or your pasport.

  3. My Son has 2 nationalities Dutch and Thai, in the Netherlands you dont need to go into the Army but In Thailand is it mandatory when you reach 18-20 years , how is Thailand handling such matters when somebody has 2 nationalities when Son is living in Thailand or the Netherlands.?

Im 50 now and Dutch never have served in an army.

  4. any idea what paper work is required if your mrs is the one earning 40K per month ?

Evidence of income, in the form of tax receipts. Generally, immigration accepts the last three months’ receipts as sufficient but there have been a couple of reports about 12 months’ receipts having been requested.

    Maestro

Tax receipts ?? And when you have income from overseas in a tax heaven ? There you get no tax receipts.

  5. Regarding Ip adresses.

How they want go arround to find you on an IP address ?

99% of the Thai internet connections have not a fixed IP. If I look at my connection I have arround 100 different IP addresses from TOT, every time I login "supprise" I got a new IP address.

If you want a fixed IP adress I pay 8500 BHT with a speed of 256/128. No way to pay that sort of amount.

Im from the Netherlands and there have every body an fixed IP adres and pay 1500 BHT 20Mbps/4Mbps so you more easy to find.

  6. In few weeks I depart with Thai wife to Europe for 2 months and I have a car there.

With a Thai driver license you cannot drive a car there but must have a International driver license, such a license is only a translation what I know, can a certified translater do the job or need I go to a special office somewhere in Phuket or BKK to obtain such driver license ?

    Who has expirance ?

  7. My Thai wife and I built a house last spring. The house is in her name but I have a 30 year lease @ 1,500 baht PCM

.We have received an income tax bill for six months @ 1500 and they want 1,300 bht tax .I work this out to be 15% .Is this the correct amount,or have they made a mistake???

My second question is we are thinking about moving and renting this property. If we do I asume it would be me sub letting. Is this legal. What tax would I have to pay on rent received. If we repair house or spend money refurbishing whilst rented is this money Tax deductable under Thai Tax law (Is there a web site explaining tax payable and expenses allowed on rentals received)

We purchased a house last year for 1 mil BHT, a couple of months later we sold it for 2 mil BHT with a 30 year lease to a farang.

We paid 1% tax = 20.000 BHT to the land office.

    regards Dragon.

  8. I hope that you are not placing any GPO's in your bathroom.

A GPO in your bathroom is no problem, in the Netherlands is common used from 1975 on that all houses have a Earth Leak switch 0.03 amp if you have your electric system earthed and 0.5 amp when not your electric system has earth.

This means in practice if there is a fault in your electric system or in all devices such as coffee, was/dish machine connected with your system, the switch cut automatic compleet the power from your house. Or when you touch with your fingers a fase the power is cut immidiatly.

  9. Does Thaksin not have property in UK and a daughter at university, which would surely help with a visa? And might he not already have a British and/or US passport anyway (he studied and I think worked there for some years), rather than passports from other tax havens?

When his daughter is married with a man from an EU member state let say the Netherlands and living both in the UK then his dauther has community EU rights and get a residence card for 5 years , aswell familiy members ( mr Taksin ) can get a residence card for 5 years.

With this residence card you can travel thrue all EU member states.

  10. Passports from countries like Belize that sell them to wealthy individuals are valid travel documents. The problem is that developed countries usually require visas from nationals of these countries. Definitely worth having has a back up in case his normal Thai passport gets revokes but no guarantee of hassle free travel. Being a citizen of a banana republic without extradition treaty with Thailand could provide a useful bolt hole.

On 21 May, 2002 the British Overseas Territories Act came into force and all existing British Overseas Territories Citizens (BOTC) (with the exception of those deriving their citizenship from a connection with the Sovereign Base Areas of Cyprus) automatically became British Citizens. They are not, therefore, subject to UK immigration control. This does not apply to those who acquired BOTC status by registration or naturalisation after 21 May 2002.

BVI where he has some companies exist befor 2002 so he has probleley a British pasport.

  12. When I hat the "affirmation of freedom to marry" in my hands I went to an agent

next to the Dutch ambassey in BKK to get married, this agent arranged a taxi to an District office nearby and aswell a withness, after we get our mariage papers the agent have translated those and arranged the certification by ministry of foreigh affairs, we married in the morning and in the afternoon I hat the certified mariage papers in my hands, the next day I went to our ambassey to get the papers certified and can use them in the Netherlands.

It have cost be total arround 10.000 BHT

  13. Many citizen from the Netherlands has meet a nice third world country partner when they on Holiday like Thailand.

Once they have a longer relation they marry and try to get a Schengen visa to get them to the Netherlands and thats a big hassle, your salary must be 120% of the minium wages and must have proof of a contract from your employer atleast 1 year. for 70% of the Dutch citizen its not possible to obtain a Schengen Visa for their partner. What they do ? find possible ways to get the partner to Europe, and its possible ! Move to another EU member state like Belgium, Germany......and you become a member of a EU state with EU community rights.......now the EU rules apply not the national law ! And you don't need to apply for a Schengen visa we know how.

Reed first the 2 EU Directives. You need to live in a other EU member state and must be married !

Im Dutch and reside in Belgium and 2 months back I bring my Thai wife to Belgium without a Schengen Visa in her pasport.

    How ?

I booked a ticket from KUL thrue Amsterdam to Sao Paolo Brazil ( no visa required for Thai )

I let her checkin allone in KUL , when you go both ist suspicius and they will think she jump of in Amsterdam. When your final destination is Amsterdam they dont board you because your partner has no Schengen Visa.

When Arrive in Amsterdam we go to the pasport control and apply for an entry Visa.

You must Show your marry certificate ( englisch and legalised )

    And both your pasports.

Residence card from the country where you live.

within 60 min you partner get the entry Visa for free

Passport control told me when I was living as Dutch in the Netherlands I get not a visa for my partner, I know i say to him. I know EU laws.

When we on Dutch Soil I cancel the AMS - Sao Paol ticket and get money back.

The transit time must be a 4-6 hours to do this trick and fully legal !
