  1. Ubonjoe, I didn't think for one moment that you would not reply if you received my message, I have great faith in you. However I am a computer dummy and cannot find the reply anywhere, is it possible for you to put it on this page that I am writing this on? Or better still to send it to my e.mail  <removed>   I really appreciate all the advice I can get. Thanks Joe.

  2. I sent a message to Ubonjoe but am not sure it delivered. I'll ask the general forum. Living here for over 20 years with Thai wife and 12 year old daughter. I have just been denied an extension to my non immigrant visa based upon marriage here in Chiang Mai. Reasons seem to be that my Bangkok Bank book does not have FTT in front of entries. I receive Australian pension every 4 weeks, 13 payments per year paid direct from Australian government to my account here in C/Mai. Each 4 weekly payment now amounts to approximately 39,000 baht or a little less according to bank rates. 13 payments a year come to about 500,000 baht a year or a little over. Immigration will not believe my bank book or the statements for 6 months from the bank. If it is not coming from overseas then I would like to thank whoever is sending me all this money every 4 weeks. It appears I now have to go to another country to get another non immigrant O based upon marriage. Advice please on where to go and any assistance will be gratefully received. Looking at other posts on here Suvannakhet might be the answer. Incidentally they did give me a 60 day extension. Thanks for any advice.

  3. Your friend would need to look at the passport website as things can vary from one country to another. Why didn't he get the child's British passport after the birth.

I applied for my son's British passport in Bangkok when he was three months old and we had it in 11 days.

Is there a difference between getting a British passport and getting British citizenship? I have a daughter born in Thailand to a Thai wife and myself as the British father and would like to get her British citizenship. Any advise greatly appreciated.

  4. Correct me if I am wrong but surely that lever in the picture is the governor control. Don't touch it, it works automatically to control the engine revs. The yellow bulb must be pushed several times to prime the carburetor, if necessary push it every time before starting and certainly every time the engine has been standing for some time. Sounds like nothing is wrong with the engine, just your incorrect starting procedure.

  5. No financial proof is needed for your wife to get a dependent extension based upon yours.

The income letter has to be new every year. Info for getting it by mail is here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-obtain-a-pensionincome-letter-for-thai-immigration

What you would do at the UK embassy is a self certification of your marriage certificate by stating it is true and correct by way of an affidavit or what ever they call them at the UK embassy. You should only need this once and show it every year.

Ubonjoe, my Australian neighbour asked me a question re an extension based upon marriage to a Thai. I told him next time I see you on Thaivisa I would ask you the question which is 'can you get an extension based upon being married to a Thai lady using a combination of income [pension] and money in the bank'. Thanks for any reply.

  6. Fairly certain that PVC glue diluted with equal amount of water does the same thing as bondcrete.

I mean PVA glue not PVC. Sorry.

Exactly what bondcrete is. Aquadhere glue watered down.

Thanks, but not sure that is entirely true. I used to think the same but seem to remember reading that while they are similar, Aquadhere (PVA) glue does not give anywhere near the same results mixed with cement/concrete.. But I could be wrong, wouldnt be the first time, I seem to remember.........

I wasn't aware that you mixed it in with the concrete, I thought you painted it on to the old surface.

  7. Tell me all you Quake experts, previously having lived in the shaky isles, California, Chiang Mai and Rai I know next to nothing about this subject. Is an earthquake of say 7.0 at forty miles deep better or worse than the same magnitude at 5 miles deep? Where is the number taken from, 40 or 5 miles down or at the surface? Does a seven mean anything if it is a hundred miles down? Does a three mean anything half a mile down under your house. Let's hear from you cos' I don't know.

  9. Zenni optical unless you want to pay the earth. Go into almost any reputable optometrist and they will do a prescription for free, obviously they hope you will buy your glasses from them but there is no obligation. Specifically ask for the distance between your eyes, or it is in fact easy to measure yourself. Do not get your eyes tested at those shops that just have a machine outside that tests your eyes in half a minute. Be prepared to pay way under half for the same thing in Thailand and faultless quality. American company in China.

  10. I think the original poster is Thai, and if you read the Nation, there is a good article along the exact same lines that ran yesterday.

One year in Pattaya for Songkran -- won't do that again -- some twit of a Brit in a wetsuit shot klong water up my nose with one of those two-liters per shot PVC water weenies. I was sick for three days with a fever from the sinus infection it gave me. When I was feeling better, I dumped a six pack of Chang bottles in a garbage can and set it on the roof to ripen all day and night.

I dumped it on his head from the roof the next day, smiled, gave him the biird, and enjoyed a cold fresh one in the bar. I think he may have had to burn the wetsuit to get rid of the rank.

What a hero, give him a medal.

  11. No loss there then ! I too had the misfortune to visit CM UK Consulate apalling, rude & arrogant Thai lady ran the place under the Hon Consuler who was never to be seen.or contacted as always"too busy". Disgrace of a place. Pattaya had some fat, ugly gay guy & gay team including a formidable looking lady man working next to immigration a few years ago but although making themselves a few quid were at least efficient.

The only decent UK Consulate I met was an ex-Army man on Koh Samui about 6 yrs ago but I think he packed it in as just got grief...all very sad.

The Thai lady you refer to was the most helpful, pleasant lady you could ever wish to meet. You are an utter disgrace to talk about her like this. I imagine with your attitude you have problems wherever you go.

  12. The Australian honorary council in Chiangmai has resigned in protest over treatment of Paraplegics and wheelchair bound elderly who are now required to show up in person for identity confirmation. This is a huge burden to this group who must book not only for themselves but also for a carer to help them to Bangkok. This creates not only a huge financial burden but one of stress for diabled pensioners. I am writting to the consul general to put my strong objection to this stupid rule. In Australia a priest, policeman or magistrate can swear identity for passport identification. Why not here? Mr. Walther , the current honorary consul does a great job for us.Think of the hassle we will need to go through without his services? Like confirming income. Will we have to do this in person or trust the post? What about all the other services we will be denied by this move.

I urge all Australian pensioners here to put in their objections. The address is readily available on Google. They have not yet confirmed a replacement ,if any. I personaly want to show support for the current Mr. Walthers for his good works and in particular to the disadvantaged disabled.

'Like confirming income', when was this ever done in Chiang Mai? Just yesterday I had to fly to Bangkok from Chiang Mai to get my income confirmed at the Australian Embassy, tied one worker up for almost a minute, paid the fee of 490 baht, and returned home, whole day wasted, cost about 3,500 baht.

  13. I also dislike Hatari. I have two and there is a strange occurrence where I feel I am sitting directly in front of them, at perhaps a few meters, and I can feel the wind current only marginally and sporadically. this is especially true of the 18 or 20 inch. Does anyone else have this experience? It seems the range of wind current is extremely limited. I'm going to try a different brand.

Have had many Hatari's, most with remote control, nearly all the ones with remote have given me trouble with the speed getting slower and slower. New electronic board and they are back like new again. Never had any problems with the motors themselves. I will not buy this brand again.

  14. AFAIK the f-16 is the world's only plane whose maximum engine thrust exceeds its weight (which varies of course) so it can theoretically fly straight up like a rocket. But even one of those can stall out.

They still fly the Lightning at air shows I think. Watched exactly that in awe when I was a kid.

I understand the English Electric P1 Lightning could go through the sound barrier in straight up vertical flight.
