  1. To be fair we’ve seen some awful behaviour and headlines from British visitors of late. You had the slashing knife today, guy fighting with police man yesterday, another guy who knocks himself out on a van …. all British guys. They are really spoiling the place which is already suffering from bad behaviour
  2. Need to look at the prisom of scams that are operating in Thailand. A lot of Thais have been badly hit. This is to try and disrupt their operations. Also too many trouble maker visitors but I don’t really think the Thai govt really gives a hoot about that.
  3. Does anyone know the reason why they decided to skip asking for a criminal record check for the DTV ? Every country that I have visited that lets you stay long term has this requirement but Thailand basically said no need. Could this be a contributing factor to the criminality in Thailand ?
  4. All I know is Thailand has become a total dump and rubbish pit since the rules were changed and they let everyone and their dog enter without much checks. Far too many criminals and badly behaved visitors, violence and drugs around. Can we go back to the old system please ? Tourists enjoy a nice safe country to visit, not a drug infested hell hole.
  5. Whilst I was back in the UK a guy who lives opposite me got chatting whilst waiting for our car to be serviced. He’s been in and out of jail all his life, ranging from a lot of drugs offenses, but particularly a lot of violence, and was last locked up for horrific attack on his girlfriend. He’s one of those really bad lowlifes you meet, never worked a day in his life but thinks everyone owes him something. Anyways he tells me “I’M GETTING OUT OF THIS S*** HOLE AND MOVING TO SOUTH EAST ASIA ME”. Meanwhile he gets generous government handouts, free help (cos he got a drink problem innit), and a free house. So much for being a hole. You know what country they’re talking about when they mutter those infamous words ‘south east Asia’. He tells me he’s moving to Thailand, got some ‘connections’ going on there. I am just curious what is attracting these criminals to Thailand ? What is in it for Thailand ? They will come to Thailand to try and earn money, which will follow a criminal path. He will be bringing his violence to Thailand, that will not change. Some innocent poor soul is going to get their head smashed in. We are already seen such awful behaviour all over social media, our own experiences of badly behaved visitors. Yet there appears to be no push back by those in charge. Instead on the contrary they seem to be wanting more. I know a lot of Thais are getting increasingly frustrated. Whilst i get tourism is vital to the country, why is it exporting in so much horrific individuals without any checks and balances. The only ones not seemingly concerned are those in charge. Property developers do benefit. If there are checks and balances please tell me what they are. My sister was denied an ESTA for America because of a driving offense she committed ten years ago, but seemingly no checks on going to Thailand for anyone. Where in any of the process are criminal record checks for long stays? If not, then what is the motivation for not requesting this? Every country has a criminal check body. You read the papers, and literally every criminal runs of to Thailand. Pick up another paper and another Brit caught smuggling drugs out of Thailand. We come for the beautiful Thai culture, lovely people yet the country is being diluted by just mass open immigration. You see racists complain about immigration in their own country, but the exact same is happening here with mass open immigration. As someone posted the other day why do these violent thugs not behave like this in Dubai? They don’t behave this way in Malaysia or Singapore either. It’s just a getting a bit depressing of late.
  6. Only instruction the visa place said was you need to get the birth certificate certified. It’s left me in limbo because no matter what we said they would not accept it. All she said was certified. As I said never had the issue before. Agent said to go through a notary - then go through the NGO - then send all to Thai embassy route. This seems Ridiculous and very costly! It’s a struggle to get the London embassy to answer their phone, and takes a while for them to reply to emails.
  7. It’s an O visa for me, child studying education visa. No problem for child but suddenly for me they claim they need child’s birth certificate certified. What on earth ?! Never had this issue before and now immigration in this new city want this. I am literally going to have to do a border run on a visa exemption as my o visa will be running out. Even my agent expressed shock. No budging you must get birth certificate certified. It’s an original birth certificate too! Utter insanity. My cousin just got a DTV barely any questions asked, and she has spent 10 years in jail in the UK ! And here I am, done all correct work, child studying and I am stuck like this.
  8. I posted a while ago but really struggling. I’ve moved out of Bangkok, new immigration centre, and suddenly to renew my visa I am being told I need to have my birth certificate of my child ‘certified’ for my visa process (child applying with me). I have original certificate. The process in the Uk for this seems Mind boggling. First go to a notary (big charge), then send to FCDO (whatever this is with big charge), then send to Thai embassy (again a fee). This seems crazy, and will TAKE SUCH A LONG TIME ! Please tell me there is another way ?!?! Anyone gone through this?
  9. She shouldn’t have driven away. But she did not deserve to be shot and killed. Those shots were an execution. Even when the car passed him he was still shooting. Sad reaction to be politicising this.
  10. Usual British racists out in force derailing this thread. This has to be the worst video I’ve seen in a long time. This was an execution. Simply no need to escalate it like that. RIP to this poor woman, may her family and young children have peace in time.
  11. There is a vaneer of threat to your line. What you think is going to happen when reform gets into power ? The UK voting system means there is no chance reform are going to get any majority to lead the country. They are only leading 5 points in poll, and that will narrow close to an election. They may well get a lot of seats around 100, but that’s not going to be enough to lead a country.
  12. You are aware a reform election win will most likely see your currency devalue even more? As someone who looks at economies, with the state of the UK economy the country is in debt to the markets. It needs to badly reduce the debt, which would mean shrinking the budget - but this is going to take 10-20 years. The markets want the UK to be prosperous and that means a closer relationship with the EU and to get trade flowing again. That confidence would see the Pound sterling rise again. Reform by its own chore will not align back with the EU even for trade. This will send markets into a lack of confidence and send the pound to fall even more. Surely logic will dictate to you that you want a prosperous country and to have more to your buck when you come to Thailand ? Weird.
  13. It would take just one stray weapon to hit a tourist centre and Thailand will destroy tourism and its economy for a long time. they should not be escalating this.
  14. This is a bit of phoney war isn’t it ? If Cambodia threaten any tourist city it’s game over for Thailand. Their economy would be crippled. This is nonsensical saber rattling, and pointless too from both sides. Sad for those suffering
  15. Awful. There seems to be a lot of bravado in Thailand about their power, but if anything was to target a major city or tourism centre - it would devastate tourism and their main source of income. Cambodia is a dump with nothing going on. Thailand has more to lose.
  16. Immigration want birth certificate certified. child is British born in the UK, so without his certification then it effects my o visa
  17. I’ve been on the O visa with my child studying in Thailand for years. But now apparently our school falls into another area, and they require the child’s birth certificate certified. It’s never been an issue before at all, we have the original cerificate, but now suddenly it means I cannot get my o visa renewed apparently. The weird thing the cerificate is enough to renew my child’s visa (I mean wtf ?!) i have hurriedly tried to look at British embassy in Bangkok to see how I can make appointment to get it certified, but good luck with navigating around that. my visa runs out in days, so what am I supposed to do here ? School have told me I can go back to UK and get the visa from there, but how is that even a thing around Christmas with my child back at school in January. And what documents will they require in the UK? left me in a mess here because of this issue of certification
  18. It normally comes down - but there are grills in the suspended ceiling that blows the air conditioning out. the area completely surrounding the ac is going to be broken and re done
  19. Hello our condo suffered some cracks during the earthquake last year. It’s not major damage so I have been putting off for a while to get the work done by my landlord due to the mess it’s going to make. unfortunately the cracks will need to be completely cut out, a huge area of space on the ceiling and wall. Then it will be repaired, plastered and painted again. my issue is my inbuilt air conditioner that is built into the ceiling (it is not one of those that hangs on the wall, but rather built into the ceiling with fans) is going to get absolutely filthy as it lies all around the cracks. Landlord has said he will clean the a/c - but the last thing I want is loads of dust that accumulated into areas of the air conditioning system and around the fans that it will be blowing out loads of microscopic dust for time. Any advice here ? Am I over reacting? How can I ensure the work is done without wrecking the a/c system with dust. Realy getting me down as I already get bad coughs from the pollution.
