  1. If reliability and price matter, pre-booking online is definitely the way to go. It gives you time to read the rental terms, check reviews, and make a decision without feeling rushed after landing. I've used Vipcars in the past just to compare prices and get a general idea of what was reasonable, and it made choosing a rental much easier. When we arrived, everything was already sorted, which was nice after a long flight.
  2. It's a gem, but it depends on what you're after. If you want waterfalls and hiking, stick to Koh Kood or Koh Chang. But if you want a flat, easy-to-explore island with a "slow life" feel, Koh Mak is it. Pro tip: Bring enough cash as ATMs can be hit or miss, and definitely grab a drink at the Blue Pearl Bar (the one on the long wooden pier), it's easily one of the best sunset spots in Thailand.
  3. It's definitely real. While Bangkok used to be the clear winner for budget travel, BKK prices have risen while Japan's yen has been relatively weak lately. You can find very clean, modern Airbnbs in Osaka for the same price as (or even less than) a condo in Sukhumvit. Osaka is definitely the spot for affordable living in Japan, it has a much better cost-of-living ratio than Tokyo and the food is actually cheaper and arguably better. Just keep in mind that while rent is comparable, things like transport and eating out will still be slightly more expensive than Thailand.
