  1. Perhaps I ought to know better than to ask such a question in the CM Forum :o .

However, it was a genuine question and I was hoping for some genuine responses. A month or so away at this time of year might be fun and not drastically expensive.

(Does Private Health Insurance cover lung cancer if you live in an area known to have a high incidence?).

I don't know the South of Thailand or its coastal areas very well. Have only ever spent a few weeks at resorts on Samui. I understand that people won't be climbing over eachother to give away their favourite unspoilt locations, but a hint or two would be appreciated.

    How about Malaysia? Cambodia?

Perhaps I should be asking this question in a different section of the forum?

    Go Pattaya for a break,

it is not unspoiled by any means, but the air is better :D

  2. It depends on the traffic what is on the street , but I was calculating at a speed of 50 km/hour on a motorbike what is actually slow driving.

So you're moving 833 meters per minute , what make 1666 meters in 2 minutes. The place is not more than 2 km. from Kad Suan Kaew.

Then it also depends if you're lucky by one red light where you normally have to stop but you can do it the thai way and go through it when it's even red. :D

Anyone who wants to challenge me , I drive a Honda XR250 Motard :o

    Regards,,

    I see

If you were a pilot, the distance could have been 30 kilometres, still just 2 minutes, eh :D

    5 minutes from Night Bazaar.

    7 minutes from Airport.

Baht 10,000/month (excluded electricity , water , tel. bills)

    Interesting.

Could you describe, where exactly it is ?

  4. The 15 day VOA is only available to a small list of countries. As he has been using 30 day visa exempt entry (90 days in a six month period) he is not on that list.

    1.

I have a German passport, is 15 day VOA available for me ?

    2.

First entry was Oct. 1st 2007, counted from this date, the 6 month period ends March 31.

Is it right, what jstumbo wrote ?

On April 1st it will start a new 6 month period for him. So he should be able to get a visa exempt entry

    Thank You

  5. Hi all,

beeing unsure, whether I need a Visa or not ... This is the case :

Have arrived BKK Oct. 1st 2007, went to Penang, stayed in Chiang Mai, went to Cambodia, did a visa run to Mae Sai and stayed in Chaing Mai again. Altogether the allowed 3 months per 1/2 year.

Have left Thailand on the 14 th of Feb.2008 at the last possible day, according to the Visa-Stamp in the passport.

At the moment I am staying in KL.

I intend to travel KL - BKK April 19th, just to catch my flight to Germany, scheduled April 19th from BKK

    The question is:

Do I need to apply for a Visa at the embassy ?

(Have been thinking, that, beginning from April 1st, another 1/2 year period may have begun, but I am not sure)

    Thank you very much

    Stefan

  6. I've never had a single problem here with the exception of the Internet connection which is terrible.

I also had no major problems until the incident like described in the initial posting......

By the way, some days before the end of the lease, I was planning my stay for late 2008 and was shown around in another building of the residence.

By chance I opened the fire-door to the stairs and found the stairs partially blocked by sort of a cabinet with shoes and stuff.

When asking, who expanded to there, I was told that someone from the management was living next door....

Since my Checkout-Problems seemed to be mainly caused by now-show of the management who could hand out the 24000 Baht, I think the problem is not the ordinary office-clerks, but the leadership of the whole.....

  7. Have been in Huay Kaew Res. 5 months 2006/2007 in a 10000 Baht Apt.

Last time 5 months 2007/2008 in a 12000 Baht Apt.

Despite it is pretty noisy there, I like the place because of its proximity to everything.

What I noticed last time was their change of terms of rental.

Contrary to the first stay, they charge now by the full month.

That means, if you move in e.g. at the 5th and leave next month at the 4th, you would be charged 25 days in the 1st month and a full next month....

The running machines at the fitness room are broken, never got repaired. I was told that the fitness room likely will be closed next time, because of expenses.

So far so good..... have been booked at the Orchid Fitness anyway, but would have liked a run at the residence now and then too ....

When there was time to end the lease and leave for another destination, to Kuala Lumpur, everything went smooth at first.

My flight scheduled 11:05 from CNX.

The residences Office opening at 9:00.

Inspection of the Apt. took 5 minutes, no claims.

Paid for electricity and water, all done at 9:15

But then, despite they had been noticed in advance about finishing the lease, they could not or wanted not to pay me back my 24000 Baht deposit.

We, my wife and my Taxi-driver waited and waited minute for minute, while the staff now and then called the manager, at least they said so.

Getting nervous about my flight, at 9:40 I asked the English-Speaking taxi-driver to tell them, I would contact the Tourist-Police, if I miss my flight.

Then everybody got upset, a guy and a girl appeared, presumable the Manager(s), and at 10:55 we could leave with my deposit.

We almost missed the flight, they closed check in early and took off even 7 minutes earlier than schedule...

Ok, it's the land of smile, mai pen rai and all, but I think that is not the way of treatment a customer deserves.... :o

  8. You better search for "gym Chiang Mai"

I don't understand why searching for "gym" in the Chiang Mai forum yields no results, but "gym Chiang Mai" does .... Does not make any sense to me.

:o Thai thing it is..... :D

  9. First post in the local forum, greetings from a new resident ...

Anyone go to a gym in CM? Recommendations welcome ...

If you perform a search, you will see that this subject has been covered many times before on previous posts. Good luck....

iwas i9nterested and done a search and this is what i got

    You searched for: gym

Unfortunately your search didn't return any results.

Try broadening the search parameters by searching by different keywords or altering the format of your search.

Remember to use the wildcard '*' to increase the number of matches. Apple* will match 'apple' and 'apples'.

You better search for "gym Chiang Mai"

  10. I've made this trip every three months for the past seven years, and only twice in all those years have been asked to show money. However, I do know personally someone who was refused entry because they didn't have the cash on them, and had to quickly find an ATM, get the cash, and get back to the bus station.

The VIP bus is a great idea, and if you book early enough (I always book 2-3 weeks in advance) you can get seat A1. This seat has an extra footwell that permits you to recline in your seat and stretch out fully (unless you are 6'3") and sleep the whole way back should you grow tired of the view.

We did the run 2 days ago... booked the minibus through a travel agency, it took us from our Condo, brought us right to the border, then back to our home. We left 7:30 am, arrived home 5 pm...., for 700 Baht each :D

That sound like a very good deal! Great price and fast, convenient service! With the VIP bus, you leave at 8am and are back in Chiang Mai around 7-7:30. The min-van seems to be a good way for most to make this run. For me, I've grown tired of the sight-seeing along the way and prefer to sleep comfortably going and coming. I get on the bus in Chiang Mai and go to sleep. I wake in Mai Sai. Coming back, I get on the bus in Mai Sai and go to sleep and wake in Chiang Mai. I can't sleep as comfortably in a mini-van. I like to stretch out. The only part of the trip I really don't want to miss is the shopping under the bridge on the Burmese side. I love it! :D

I just wish my visa would allow me to just sign the book at CM Immigration..... :o

That makes 10 hours of sleep daysover....... you seem to be a busy guy at nighttime LOL :D

  11. Just an inquiry to see if anyone has done the visa run CM to Mae Sai recently?

My 3mths are about up ("O" visa) & checking what the protocol is on arrival to MS.

    Any info appreciated,

    Thank you.

Have just returned from my run this evening. 3 months permsssion to stay on my "O" non-imig. visa.

I am presuming that this will be your 1st run.

Take yr passport to the bank in CM to purchase US$10 currency for 337 baht - or alternatively take 500 baht. You will need this currency for your entry into Myanmar.

Your bus will stop you at the bus-station from where you will get a 10 baht songtaew ride up to the border immigration-post. Enter the bldg on the left hand side taking the right stream where your passport will be stamped out of Thailand

Continue through and out of the building and pass through the right hand side of the next building without any further formality.

You will proceed across the bridge to the actual Myanmar immigration point on the right hand side of the road where you will surrender your passport and your currency. You will then be asked to sit before a camera and after a bit of computer notes your passport will be surrendered to that office ( all in one small room). You are given a counterfoil voucher that you will have to exchange for the return of your passport if it is your intention to proceed into Tachilk and go down into the market, or whatever.

You will return to the Thailand point on the left hand side where you will obtain ,from somewhere close to the head of the queue, the usual "arrival / departure" form which you will fill in and then present your passport and that form at the window - and you're home and hosed !

    Have a good trip.

    Cheers

P.S. There is a sign up at the window which states that you are expected to show 20,000 baht cash on entry into Thailand.

My wife and I certainly weren't asked to do so and I don't know anyone else who has had to do so.

Perhaps someone else may care to opine on that issue.

  12. ~

I haven't been keeping track of the news about the new airport in BKK. Are all international and domestic flights now going in and out of there?

If so, does anyone have recommendations for an overnight hotel that is reasonable and not far from the new airport? We are leaving soon at just after 6am and returning near midnight so need a Bangkok hotel in both directions since we live in CM.

    Thanks

I am just sitting at the Lounge in the new Bangkok airport.....

Came from CM yesterday by Air Asia.

Had a room at "Grand Bangkok Residence" just minutes from the Airport.

Have booked trough Travel Agency 1700 Baht per night incl. Breakfast.

Pickup complimentary, to Airport by Hotel Car 200 Baht.

New and clean place..... but nothing interesting around....

  13. All,

Spent alot of time trying to use Airasia booking with Credit card etc. The error messages are not always correct as to your problem.

Try putting in your telephone number like you are calling from out of Thailand.

I had good results after that.

    LLL

Had trouble yesterday, process was stuck at Payment.

A fresh restart of the whole booking not possible...

Had to delete Temporary Internet Files, Browser Cache etc., after this went smooth.... :o

  14. @ ALL

Yes, I have experienced same like peter991 and MTW some times :o

This time I was taken from home to the Restaurant, had a 3 hour dinner with samplers of the delicacies the place has to offer and which are planned for the future...

The whole party were old friends and some partners and I, as the only newcomer, was very happy, not to have come with empty hands.... my small bouquet of flowers was very appreciated, sitting at the end of the table... :D

Oh... and not to forget..... no bill presented.... :D:D

  15. Don't be surprised if you get the bill at the end.

    :D It's funny because it's true

    :D

Have asked some senior Thai People, despite being invited, one usually gets the bill, except at weddings and birthdays :D

Well, I am glad to have asked, would not have expected to get presented a bill eventually .... :o
