  1. The term ''friends'' is bandied around quite freely here in Thailand and seems to include many of the population.

I am proud to admit to having no friends who have or would commit such acts. I would not want to be exposed to the enemies

of these 2 casualties if they consider those responsible as ''friends''

To coin a hackneyed phrase: with 'friends' like these, who needs enemies.

  2. After watching this video a number of times and reading prior post. My opionion is the pedestrian is at fault. Had he been in a cross walk then the table is turned. He is another unwise person in the middle of traffic failing to look both ways then he darts and is struck.

Had this been me I still looking both ways before I dart across the street. This being Thailand you always have stray dogs and not wise pedistrian making the decision to cross the street when not safe. As in the video here. My 2 baht!

Sorry, I have to disagree. Have you ever seen any drivers or motorcyclists stop at any pedestrian crossing? No way they will stop, ever! You take your life in your hands every time you walk across a major any road, especially in built up areas. Why do you think there are so many overhead pedestrian walkways? Because the various government authorities know from experience that fatalities are inevitable. Hell, drivers and motorcyclists even go through red lights in this country so why would you expect them to stop or slow down for a lowly pedestrian? Conclusion: lack of common sense, lack of education, lack of caring about others, it's all me, me, me.

  3. If the Aussie did indeed consistently park in a restricted and private area, and consistently ignored requests not to do so, something was bound to give. In true Thai style, the 'give' went over the top.

But I wonder what sort of protection the guard is expected to offer in the event of a threat to the safety of staff or customers, and what authority the bank has to hand out a gun to its security guard?

Why don't you look at post #76 instead of assuming the Aussie did something illegal, because when you ASSUME it make an ASS out of U.

  4. And the rest, hundreds die each day on the roads here. Just not reported or reported incorrectly.

There used to be a FB page with all the daily carnage & it was horrific. It has now been removed.

The mixture of piddly motorbikes & huge SUVS, trucks, buses + alcohol is not a great combination. Add a soupcon of speed!! and you have the recipe for disaster.

Article back in March 2015 lays it on the line: http://asiancorrespondent.com/2015/03/thailand-road-deaths/

  5. Engineering has got to be one of the best paying and most secure professions in the world. The adaptability of the knowledge you will gain in this degree is unbelieveable. Stick with it, in the end you will never regret the decision to keep going and finish. What you may need now is other side interests like vocational courses you can do in the afternoon, at night or the weekend to use that valuable time you have now in the U.S. As my old maths tutor used to say: "here's some work to keep you off the streets for awhile" biggrin.png

  6. This is slightly off topic but does anyone know about automated irrigation systems for farms? We have a very long and wide piece of land and it's a pain to keep having to turn spigots on and off, primarily due to low pressure and different types of produce grown. Thanks.

  7. 2 Aussie brainless bimbos + 2 officers in the cockpit = All hoping for some "afterflight" activity

Both of them are South African, 'Jonti' is a South African name, not Australian + the commentary in the video states that 'Jonti' was visiting Australia for a year. The rest I agree with entirely.

  8. Back to the Palestinian government minister:

Dr. Hen Kugel, the Israeli doctor who took part in the autopsy, told Ynet that the report was not final and that they were awaiting on the return of some tests, however "we know what happend there – he died from a heart attack. He had significant blockage of the arteries and his heart was in bad shape. When they grabbed his neck it caused massive stress which led to bleeding and then full blockage which is what killed him."

"There is no disagreement with the Palestinians about this, the only thing we still need to find out about is wounding to his front teeth, tongue and windpipe. These could be a result of resuscitation attempts or an attack as the Palestinians claim, but it doesn’t matter, he died because of his heart and stress," Dr. Kugel said.

The deceased suffered from heart disease, and there was evidence that plaque buildup were clogging more than 80% of his blood vessels, as well as signs that he had suffered heart attacks in the past.

The IDF source stated that the issue is still under investigation, and that there is a need to question all soldiers involved in the incident.

  9. Anger management problems...............a small piece of cloth and some thinner would have done the job (on the window of course).

Can't blame the car wash.....the sticker was removed

SEND HIM HOME HE IS A NUTTER

behaves like a typical Aussie. Met plenty of them in oz

what a stupid comment, typical Aussie my arse! I think you must have stepped off the plane a little too early and hurt your pointy little head. Typical Aussies are nothing like this wretched example. You must have lived in the rough Arab neighbourhoods in Australia, they have plenty of scum living there.

  10. The one positive thing is TAT has been muzzled, it appears. Perhaps someone with integrity was asked to provide accurate information, for a change.

Great care was taken not to mention the islands, but again this was an opportunity missed, they could express condolences and support for (real) justice to be served.

Besides, KT is not symbolic of all the islands - far from it I would hope.

My contact on Samui tells me that tourism IS down on the island compared to last year.

  11. Sam Harris, author of Waking Up and an expert of Islamic extremism, quantifies the percentage of Muslims supporting extremist ideology directly and indirectly (Skip to 4:05):

Liberals: BIll Maher agrees with him while whiny little Ben Affleck rambles, "We are endowed by our Forefathers..." 555 what a <deleted>

how many years has the expert Sam Harris (the son of a Jewish mother and therefore "de jure yahudi" a bona fide Jew) spent for his research in the Middle East or any other Muslim country?

Since at least 2001 when he was researching data for his 2004 book The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_End_of_Faith

Is that long enough for you?
