  1. Hi, my mother is here on a tourist visa. She wants to stay 90 days. She is Canadian. Her visa expires on March 9. Does she have to make the extension on that day or can she apply beforehand? If she applies earlier does she lose days on her Stay? How early could she apply, I need to go to immigration next week.. Friday.. for myself. Could she do it 2-3 weeks earlier?

  2. Hi,

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy s2. And i'm looking at the best possible service that suits my needs. I'm currently with dtac, had an iphone 1, and pay 800 baht a month for talk minutes and edge service. I hardly every talk on the phone, maybe a few minutes with the wife every other day.. and i haven't used the edge in 6 months cause i have wifi and the edge service is too dam_n slow.

    I see two options....

Get a new package with dtac.... there are 2, one for 699b and 899b that offer 3g for 1gb/3gb plus a bunch of minutes. But i don't need the minutes.....

    or

Pre-paid with happy dtac...... seems to be cheaper but i have no idea how to go about setting it up..... also do i lose my current number?

I see a cheaper internet packages..... so seems a solid option...

Is 1 gb enough for a casual user or should i be safe and go with 3?

    input would be appreciated....

  3. What country are you from?

If US, there are several options to secure a US state teaching license by passing exams and having a bachelors degree.

If Canadian, there is a program through the University of Winnipeg that is offering a BEd and has classes in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. A Canadian BEd is considered a licensed teacher for teaching at International Schools.

Thanks for the info! I'm Canadian. I'll take a look at that program... think its from Payap, right?

  4. Hi, i've been teaching in Thailand for the past 8 years. Four years ago i decided to head back to school and now hold a BA in English. At the time i was planning on taking the teaching diploma right after getting my degree but as we all know that turned out to be a dud.

I want my teaching license. I plan on staying here. I have a wife and child. I want to feel secure.

I'm on the second year of my first wavier and now have to start planning for the next step.

At the moment, the only way it seems to get certified is to get a Masters.

I've heard of people doing it online. Although i've heard of certain downfalls to online degrees, it'd definitely suit my schedule. A mix of online and inclass would be fine as well.

What are my best options for uni's?

    Thanks

  5. We've decided to go for the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport...the model second from the top. Yes, i'm paying more than i wanted but it's probably worth the extra investment in the long run for a quality suv.

I found this web site offering Mitsubishi Pajero Sport at the same price as the dealer but with some extra accesorries,.... GPS system, roof monitor, reversing camera to name a few. Looks promising!!!

Wanted to ask y'all what you think? The sites in Thai but translates okay.

    I'd Appreciate some input

    Thanks

  6. Okay, so now we are considering bumping our price range a bit. We're considering the Pajero diesel / Trailblazer / Everest / and maybe the base model MU7. We decided that they'd be a better investment in the long run. Tough decision anyways... any suggestions???

The specs and prices for the production version of the Trailblazer under under very tight wraps, pending it's global release in Thailand on the 21st of this month, so all we know right now is that it's probably going to be slightly watered down from the concept shown at Dubai, and will have the same basic underpinnings of the Colorado.. Let's wait and see smile.png

    As for the others:

Pajero Sport: #1 selling SUV in Thailand for the 2nd year now, strong dealer network, excellent resale value, so pretty good overall value. Just over 3 years old, with the next gen due around 2014/2015. It's 2.5L diesel was updated in early 2011, making it the most powerful in the segment, with good FE and 5AT. Best ride comfort in the segment also.

Fortuner: #1 selling SUV for several years until Pajero Sport took the title in late 2010. Getting on a bit now (> 7 years old), but aging well due to being so far ahead of the curve when first released. Huge dealer network, excellent resale, but a bit stigmatized due to the way the average. 'Tuna owner behaves on the road. Should not be overlooked though. Wears the magic "T" badge, so many will buy on that basis alone.

Everest: Based on a very old platform and showing it's age. The replacement model (based on the T6 Ranger platform) is due early next year, and promises to be substantially better. That said, it's not terrible by any measure, but it's not especially fantastic either. Some of the 'larger framed' members here have chosen it over others as it offers more space/comfort for bigger 'pum pui' types wink.png

MU-7: Base design is now 8 years old, and tech is very dated. Isuzu engines are well regarded in TH for reliability and FE though, and it's got more cargo space than the others when in 7 seats mode. Good resale, huge dealer network, and there's plenty of standard accessories and blingy bits to take your eye off the fact that it's so old wink.png Next gen being delayed until 2014. Meh for me, but maybe right for you if you want the biggest SUV in the price range.

    Thanks for the detailed information.

From what i gathered, the Pajero is a safe bet. But i'll take a look at the Trailblazer at the motorshow. I actually like the way the Everest looks but they don't have any on show anymore. They make on order according to the office i called.

  8. My wife did a bit of research on Thairung vehicles, and she came across 2 or 3 reviews that say thairung vehicles are assembled poorly and as a result start to squeak after a few years. I'm not if i should worry.

Anyways, we called Thairung and according to the main office there are less than 10 allroaders left for sale. They offered a decent deal so considering it. Will negotiate more...

    How much is the MU7?

Does anyone know the price range for the Trailblazer?

  9. Thanks for the useful info!!! TR All-roader sounds right for us, but i'll give the Pajero Sport SUV a look. My plan is to purchase a vehicle at the Motor Show in March. So it'd be nice if TR unveiled the new model there. Wife's on maternity but will be back to work in April so need a second car by then so can't wait.

Main problem i see is the price of body parts. Does that mean insurance is expensive?

I'm still fighting for the Ranger and won't stop until the motorshow. For those telling me to man up, my wife has a strong personality and thats one of the reasons i married her.

Anyways, thank you all for the replies.

  10. Hi All,

Wifey and i just had a baby boy and are now in the search for a new vehicle.

I originally wanted just a second sedan (because of price) but my wife convinced me that a larger vehicle would suit us better. 600 000 baht range no longer an option!!

Checked out the Azanza and APV, took test rides... and no thank you!!! Drive cheap and look cheap!!! 700 000 baht range no longer an option!!

Ford Ranger... my dream vehicle. Wifey, "no, pick up trucks" Me, "please, they are affordable and size is good for a family of 3" Wifey, "No" Me, "Come on" Wifey, "NO"

800 000 baht range no longer an option!!

That leaves me at the 900 000 baht range. There are some decent MPV's in that price range. Freed and Innova, for example. They'd suit our purpose. However, i bumped into the Thai Rung website and found the TR All-roader..... it looks very intersesting and seems to satisfy both of our needs. I'd like a pick-up and she wants room, perfect. Price: decent. I'd rather pay that type of money for the All-roader than an MPV. But i don't see any of these on the road (been looking for weeks) and very little info/reviews on them on the net. Does anyone here have any experience with this tank or have heard anything about them? I'd appreciate any info, good or bad.

Also any other recommandations would be welcomed... but i won't hit a million baht.

    Thanks

  11. Hi, I'm reposting this. I originally posted in Family and Children forum but didn't get the answers i needed... so i'll try here.

I'm a Candian father living in Thailand married to a Thai wife. We have a 3 month old baby son who was born in Thailand. I want to get his Canadian citizenship as soon as possible since i heard the process is long and i plan on taking him back to Winnipeg for a visit later this year or early next. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the process and could enlighten me a bit. The info on the embassy website is straight forward enough but i'd like to know first hand how things went. One problem i noticed is that you need proof of identification ( two documents ). What can we use for our son? It also stated we need one piece of identification with a picture. Not sure what we could use for a baby.

The focus is on the citizenship and not the passport.

Anyways, any feedback would be appreciated.

    THNX

  13. Hi,

I've been working at an international school for the past 3 years and have been content with the working conditions at the school. Recently, the school has changed principles. The new principle at first seemed decent enough but all of a sudden she pulled a Jekyll and Hyde. I won't get into details. I'll just say that the teachers at the school, including myself, are not feeling secure. I've done a little research on labor rights for teachers and found that teachers at private schools don't have any. What i can't find is the labor rights of teachers at international schools. I want to know if we (inter teachers) are in the same boat as the private school teachers. Are we stuck with only the conditions in the contract? Are we protected in anyway?

I'd appreciate any advice or feedback.

    Thanks,

    RH

  14. Hello,

Do you know any Burmese restaurant in Bkk now ? I heard around SOI ABAC at Ramkamhaeng, but not sure ?

Anything Myanmar doesn't seem so trendy among Thai ?

But photos of Burma food look good !

    Please help !

Yes, i can confirm that their is a Burmese restuarant on SOI ABAC at Ramkamhaeng. They don't have a huge selection but what they have on offer is really good. Truthfully it seems to be more of a tea shop than an actual restaurant but i'd say it's worth a visit.

  15. I heard a story today and was completely disgusted. I thought it'd be best to get the news out about the Monster of the Language School.(changed because of rules)

A Korean co-worker of mine suffered a verbal assault by a manager of a language school at Paradise park. She has been studying there for a month now and has been disappointed with the quality of teaching(i won't get into why but she has valid reasons for being disappointed). Last night she decided to make a formal complaint with the manager of the school. Instead of apologizing and offering to investigate the matter, the guy verbally attacked this poor girl. Before any of you say, well maybe she insulted him or spoke inappropriately, this wouldn't or couldn't have happened cause she's a sweet girl who doesn't have bad bone in her body. The foreign manager just went off on her...who are you to complain? You can barely speak English....Your pronunciation and grammar skills are awful....i can barley understand what you say.. The poor girl ran out of the school in tears. I talk to this girl everyday and her English is decent and i have no problems understanding her. The manager is a nut job. It's so unfortunate because this girl is such an eager learner.

Beware....tell your students to avoid the school that stars with a vowel. (please don't say this is against the rules...Thai politicians do it all the time to avoid legal problems) :)
