thanks Ubonjoe , happy to read your quick response . One more thing , about the tm30 .Until now I still have not made such a report .In the past they did not make a point of doing this . I holiday once a year now knowing it is required these days but wonder should I do now on my next holiday or don't bother till I return back fulltime and get a new passport .I probably get a fine or how it works ?

Hi , sorry to interrupt , but I was reading a response from Ubonjoe to the OP about needing the 400k in the bank account to come from oversees transfers . I recently made a post in another thread asking about this need for oversees transfers for the marriage extension was needed .I got the response that this was not needed for the marriage extension , only for retirement extensions .Now that I read this response from knowledgeable Ubonjoe got me a bit worried again .Because I am in my homecountry now and will bw more for a couple of years before returning and start the process over .I have deposted 400k already in my wifes account I want to use later for my extension but I have brought this cash in .Please can you give me some clearance about this .thank you so much .

Hi thank you so much for your reply , that is good news for me , saves me a lot headache.

Hi , I read this thread with alot of interest . One thing I wonder about and that is about the marriage extension 400k in the account .Does this now have to come from abroad or os this only for retirement ? Cause I banked 400k in my wifes account intending to use in a couple of years for that extension , I brought some of that money cash while visiting my wife on holidays . If so needing this I probably have to save the amount again on much less favorite exhange rates and start over .In the past I have had multiple extensions approved not needing to come from abroad .So my question is ,is it now ? Much appreciated .

Now its time of those in power to ease foreign hubands/family rules regarding stay and capabilities of work pemits doing any job you feel needs to be done for taking care of your family asap . Probably never but still hoping for a surprise ....one day .

I agree that Chiangmai is filthy as most larger Thai cities . There is no policy the homeowners have to keep their property to a level of standard beautification or sort of . If it is written in law it would improve the sight in major cities a lot .Goververment starting with less polution and traffic crazyness solutions in return perhaps the locals can agree to work together ......but not anytime soon .....

I've made the trip in the past , if you have your own transport you could make the trip in one day .
By public transport probably 1 night at the border town ,which is still dirt cheap , Laos visa 1500 baht approx .
So altogether ,even with a night sleep , no more than 4000 baht .
Or have you done many land border crossings recently... , if you have not there's nothing to worry about to do a crossing , no problems
at all if that worries you .
-
May I suggest you to just cross the border at Chiang Khong to Laos for a 15 days or 30 days , 30 days for a G7 country and 15 for others .
Chiang Khong border cross is as close to Chiangmai as Mae Sai is , both in Chiangrai province . At Mae Sai they do not allow but to Laos THEY DO ......
So I might make you save a trip to KL.....................
-
Thanks Ubon , good news , has been almost 10 years since I did the last crossing at Mae Sai ,
Chiang Khong even longer , but prefer the Mae Sai crossing .
Isn't my run good for 90 days not also a visa run.....no visa run means no visa exempt run is it not ....
Its their writing whats confusing not so much whats is allowed or not imo....
-
I certainly hope so . I've got to cross at Mae Sai / Tachilek next month .
As I do not see any refusals of entry for people crossing with a non O yet , I too worry a bit if I will be able to do the crossing .
Bit confusing of the reports about in/-out refusals and the dislike of it by authorities , they really mean visa exemptions ,
what's not the same as having a visa , but I still go in and out the same day .....
I wish someone reports from Maesai crossing with a valid non O succesfully .
Can someone tell me how it's done at Chiang Khong these days ,can I go and return the same day ,and do they give a huge visa sticker full page
if returning back to Thailand the same day ...I wish not ,but if its the only alternative ,not much you can do is it ...
-
you can get a multiple non -O in SVK Laos Connda ,without financials , you can get singles at Vientiane and Penang malaysia .if you are a married person that is .

Elliot . If really happened as you said what happened , I really feel sorry that this has happened to you , I really do .
I did not in specifically manner meant that you were scaremongering , I meant with all the fuzzed stories coming out lately , it can be an opportunity for some , feeling like doing so , so to speak . I doubt what you wrote because its not usual , seems more like an area foreigner crackdown or something ,have you noticed more of it ?
I would certainly make a complaint it they showed up at my place like that ,but they probably were looking for someone ,if randomly to whomever and whenever ,i guess I would make up my mind and pack my stuff and leave this place for a long while ,thats for sure .
-
I doubt your story Elliot . Although I do read some awkward stories lately , I guess its easy stuff for the scaremongering trolls to monger some more .
But if its really getting the new normal , which isn't , let me be clear , there must be a lot more going on at the higher up echelons for it to turn rogue in many expects in the police force .Not impossible , but it will tell us the real state of affairs , and it can turn messy pretty quickly .
Intervening Farangs or foreigners for that matter. trying to stick their nose and complain at a meeting or whatever trying to lobby into it is not the Thai way and works into the opposite direction ,they will cut conveniences as the queue online etc , typically a Thai reaction to us to keep our mouths shut , until the time comes its convenient for them to listen to any of our stuff .
Its said to say so , but is just works like that , we should know when to say something and when not , at least thats their interpretation , and not only to us foreigners to locals also .But it will all turn no normal eventually when the pressure on them will decrease , exactly the reason why we should stay calm and not get into this mess off talking shit anyway .
-
Seems they desperately are looking for a money spinner , for obvious reasons , I do not believe they suddenly enforce these pathetic rules in the long run .
My wife is happy to pay the fine if needs so , but certainly will not go and report the gestapo like conditions .
If they going to , I will pay the fine and play stupid ,and wait till it turns back again ,if it turns worse I too will seriously think about going to the West again , maybe a new opportunity after 16 years anyway .
It seriously is changing to the worse , especially if its not only about enforcing the existing never enforced rules ,we should all watch it very carefully .

I thought I might react an experience I had in this thread . Last week I went over the border at Mukhdahan over to Savannakhet into laos .
The border IO lady asked why I left for SvK , and demanded to see my original marriage papers .
I had them with me because I was set to make a new Non /- O based on marriage , which was a successful application btw .
I have had 8 previous extensions and haven't left Thailand in this period , so it might be a bit shocking to see that someone like me had
to make a visa run actually . She wanted me to make a re- entry permit....which I refused , the stupidity really with one week left on the permitted to stay stamp , and told her I was going to start all over . And asked me why ....didn't had enough money seasoned this time and the faith of the foreigner is to go out and make a new visa by law even .They also asked me if I worked etc , which I don't , I'm hanging on the shoulders of my Thai wife ,which sarcasting is a joke in Thai language ,and they relaxed with chit chat .
I wasn't impressed or whatever but its certainly the first time I got a drilling on going out of the country ....I suspect it has something to do with me having 8 years of extensions in my passport ,which they should be happy with anyway , bad luck can happen to anyone and I hope in a year or 2 probably I will be able to make normal extensions again .
Certainly do not hope so every time I leave the country after 90 days they ask me questions , I'm planning exit at Maesai /- Tachilek next , see what happens . Actually bit exciting again to do some short trips instead of extensions , has been long ago I did that , and now I realise again we are tourists forever and ever in their eyes .whatever that means .

I've got a queue online appointment for the 16th of may at 10.00 hours , I want to cancel it , but it not possible anymore I saw , so any takers ? Can give the code to any of you , not sure if you can change the reason and name online .....
For in return , I want a new appointment from half July till Aug 3 , they are fully booked.......nice exchange....preferably ....I'm not kidding , if no exchange possible ,one of you are lucky .pm me .
-
felt a aftershock just now
-
Well thanks for the info UbonJoe ,getting a little complicated to understand this all , but I believe I made my last extension about the 22nd of July , and had to take my approval from Bangkok Sept 3 , my extension is valid until august 3 .
So probably same as you say , and I'm right in the middle of the rule change , lucky this time around , next time more careful .

To bump my old threat up for a short while , sorry folks .
I can't say how it would have worked out , about my little problem ,because at CM immigration they just gave me the transfer to my new passport ,
and to my big surprise they gave me my old date back , which is on august three .
Now I have to cancel my appointment , can't make a new one so will have to camp in front the office to get helped that day , but still better then getting refused because of the little mistake I thought I made , that problem at least is solved .
wonder what the mods have to say , because they really did give me my old date back and not until the date of my expiry of my passport .
-
All thanks for the input guys . Yes I knew about the 60 days option , although I never looked into the matter because I never needed it or thought I might need it with the current requirements , which I already took 7 extensions of consecutive .
I just made a small mistake , forgot a small detail and kept my money (over 400 k though) a little short .
I will try my regular extension , the 400k will be seasoned only 27 days though ,and was only a tiny 50 baht under 400 k for 19 days , and my bankbook shows well over 400 k of all of the past year . On the bankbook they will see by the code it was an atm fee which brought me just under .....
I know I should have been more alert , but still have good hopes they will overlook this rule , its clearly not that I'm borrowing somewhere to get my extension , that's what the seasoning is meant for anyway !!. Would be the top of bureaucracy really if they stick with the 60 days imo , but it is the top here from experience .
But just in case I will mention the 60 days if its a no no , and will report next month how it went , let it be a warning to all of you , normally I'm very alert but got hit with it this time .............
-
Guess I try to get the extension , cause have got an appointment anyway .
Still guessing if I will point it out to them or let them spot it themselves , if I point it out next month , and they say sorry cannot , I probably will get the chance to get the extension based
on visiting my wife instead .I presume I 'll be able to extend that again in the last 30 days of the 60 days total right ?
If yes , don't think I will get in much trouble except 1900 double....
-
Hi ,
I have had seven consecutive extensions based on marriage .....Already made an appointment for next month , kept over 400 k all the past year on my account as usual . But I kept the amount a little short over the 400 k , and suddenly I thought they probably will take out a Atm-card fee on my account , checked and its 50 baht under the 400 k now ...I wonder if immigration will waive my small mistake , I popped it up immediately again and has been under 400 k for 19 days (in the 60 days period).............in total .
It was already confusing , because I'm still waiting for my brand new passport to arrive in a week from now . the usual date got trimmed with 2 months , because of the validity date ......
Anyway , what to do in my situation now ? All help and experience much respected , thanks .

It appears you are applying for an extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai. It is not a visa.
You need a recent Kor Ror 2 marriage registry from the Amphoe.
Copy of wife's ID card.
Be sure all copies are signed.
Hi Joe , as I have stated before once , I wanted to clearly state that Chiangmai immigration do not need Kor Ror 2 at all .
I have taken it the last 2 times during my extension , and they took it out twice , clarifying not needed it.
If other members had different experiences lately I would love to hear it .
cheers .
