  1. No problem blizzard, I am pushing 51 & she is a looker. I would feel silly walking down the street with a 21 y/old. It would boost my ego, but everyone would look at me like they look at the sex tourists & bargirls in Pattaya. I don't want kids and neither does she, so all's well. I will take care of her & she will do the same for me in my later years.

  3. Hello Andrew,

I am another one that will not hide behind a mask.

I have started a few threads asking perfectly reasonable questions as well as responded to existing threads with my thought on the issue. Invariably, someone using a pseudonym will blast me, insult me and/or laugh at my point of view. I, in return, lower myself to their level and blast back using whatever insult seems appropriate. Needless to say, their trail of insults persists.

I dare say that these anonymous posters would not be so bold as to say these things to my face. This is why they will not use their real names. As I ponder this, I think these people are intelligent in at least one regard. If I knew who they were & happened to run up on one in Chiang Mai, the outcome might not be so pleasant.

I fully anticipate a volley of insults from some of the members. Know in advance no response will be forthcoming so feel tough & let loose the tirade. You will have to wallow in the mud by yourself.

I have decided that this will be my last post on ThaiVisa. I have a very bad taste in my mouth regarding this "forum thing" in general. From this day forward I will read this forum for news and search for answers to specific questions only.

Good luck to you, Andrew Hicks. Good on you for not hiding.

  4. My dear Khun Marco...

As an Italian, I understand your desire to be submissive to any one or anything that threatens you. This is ingrained in your DNA and there is nothing you can do about it.

Maybe, just maybe, you could be the first & when threatened or attacked by a soi dog, you could at the very least growl back at the little siht, or better off, send him packing off down the road. Wait, I forgot, you are Italian. The only thing you can attack is a defenseless female.

    With kindest regards, Tlloyd

  5. Call the authorities in Thailand...surely you jest. If the "authorities" are to underfunded, incompetent or lazy to put out all the fires in the North (which cause problems for thousands of people) I seriously doubt you will ever get one Thai "authority" to even attempt to catch one nasty soi dog.

Don't get me wrong, my bestest friend is Gracie, a 6 y/o Golden Retriever. I love dogs, but I will not be "submissive" to any of them, even Gracie. A nasty soi dog is asserting itself in it's territory. You either dominate or submit. You (humans) are the dominant life type on this planet, especially to a soi dog. Time to start acting, or rather taking , your place.

  6. The Royal Rainmaking Operations Center ????

A better idea would be to collect aerial fire fighting equipment from all over Asia to come in and extinguish ALL the fires. That & the predicted rain to come would be the only way to clear the air.

After just returning from 3 weeks in the North, I must admit I was confused by the lack of concern of the local fire departments. On the way back from Mae Hong Son, I witnessed no less than 8 fires all burning within close proximity to the road, and not 5 minutes later passed a fire station with all trucks parked under the shed and no one in sight. The only fire fighting effort I ever saw was a group of children in front of their school, pouring water on the bushes out front, as a fire burned across the street (?) Only in Thailand.

  7. Left Chiang Mai last Wednesday after 3 weeks in the North (CM, CR & MHS). I would have killed for a storm to clean the air & extinguish some, if not all of the fires. I leave & you get rain, just my luck.

  8. Too much discussion of a very simple problem:

Shaking means the tire is out of balance, defective or axle is bent. Alignment only cures steering geometry & has nothing to do with a shake. A high speed balance with the wheel & tire on the car is, IMHO, the only proper way to balance. Not only do you balance the tire & wheel, you effectively balance the the complete suspension assembly (rotor, bearings, everything). If you notice in racing cars, no matter what type, each tire awaiting to be put on at a change, has a position noted on the tire: RF, RR ,LF,LR. All the tires were balance on the car prior to the race.

If you vehicle pulls to one side or the other, tires wear out unevenly, or the vehicle CRABS down the road you need an alignment. Alignment will not affect shake in any way shape or form. It will, however, tell you if you have bent suspension components, possibly caused by running your tire & wheel into an unforgiving curb.

If you pranged the wheel into a curb, you may have also bent the wheel as well as possibly damaging a strut, lower control arm and least likely the steering knuckle. Smoothing on a scuff may not have fixed the problem. If the shop has to add unusual amount of wieght to balance the wheel, it is most likely bent & will require replacement.

  9. Gents

New deal at HSBC = 6% offshore dollar account

It's being advertised here in the US, however, the 6.0% rate is only good thru April 30, and it only applys to new money ADDED to your account since 29 January, 2007. Currently, the HSBC Direct is paying 4.94% with a yield of 5.05%, not bad for straight savings, no matter how you look at it.

  10. Thank you peaceseeker...Your informative input is appreciated. When you say it is a little out of the way, in what way/manner do you refer?

Thanks again...maybe I could hook up with you & your significant other & repay the hospitality when I get to CM later in February.

  11. After doing some searching, I have come across 3 places that seem to be reasonably priced and somewhere i would want to stay for 3 or 4 weeks. I would appreciate your opinions prior to me booking. Also is one's location better than another.

    1. Viangbua Mansion....Looks very nice & reasonable price (they have not responded to my e-mail regarding availability).

    2. Fortune residence bungalows...Available & reasonable, but seem to be very close to airport runway.

    3. Downtown Inn Hotel...by night market. Most review opinions are positive, a few negative.

Also, my Thai GF found a house for 18K BT p/month and sent me the link, but I don't read Thai. I have no idea where it is. Could someone punch this up & tell me what you think. www.chiangmaihouse4rent.com

What say you, members of the forum?

  12. Ulysses G. ....Tried to get in & edit my last post (I suppose I waited to long as edit not available) as I wanted you to know I was not slamming you or your post. I (unfortunately) have a sarcastic sense of humor & it has been known to get me bum in a crack, now & then. :o

    Regards, TLloyd

  13. Funny you should ask. I to will be in CM from about 2/21 through 3/13 and am also looking for a home to rent. I would like a decent place (preferably with A/C & hot H2O). My Thai GF wrote me this AM & evidently knows of or has a friend who knows of a place for 1800 BHT p/month and was that OK. That's super cheap so my expectations are not very high. I am now trying to get details from her. May be difficult as she is in BKK.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I would like to stay under $300 to $400 US if that is doable. If so please point me in the right direction.

  14. Yes, I saw that and that prompted me to resurect this thread. I appreciate the insight on tuk-tuks for sale, but my OP was why do we not see more farang driving tuk-tuks? Is there a reason that I am missing? They seem very practical/cost effective to me. Enquiring minds want to know.
