  1. Hi Every One,

I am like so many others. I want to spend a lot of time in Thailand (also other countries) but can not afford to retire. I would appreciate any help with determining what would be my best choice for education in an area that would make it possible to ether work in Thailand or neighboring countries. Also, maybe working else where but in a job that would pay fairly good and allow me lots of time off. I was thinking some place where I could work on a project for 6 months to a year and half than be done and take time off. Later be able to find a job like that again when I am ready (need money).

I am 48 years old and have been working in factories pretty much my whole life. I went to machine shop school and worked as a machinist for a while. Was good at but its been a while and can not really consider my self an expert machinist. I have experience with machine set up, process and line mechanic in a few different types of factories. I did the Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer thing for NT4 and will be finishing a 2 year degree in programmer/analyst this spring (no work experience in this field).

I live in the US and will be spending the next 4 years or so raising my son here ( he is 14). After that the plan is to try to move to SEA for a while. I have started learning to read write and speak Thai. I have to work full time so I am pretty much looking at part time school. I need to decide what my best path will be as far as education so I can make plans for classes next summer. I am not that excited about computers, but I have a head start with the 2 year degree and they are OK so continuing with that would be alright; changing to some thing else would be alright too. I know getting a job in a factory over seas is not the answer but since that is what I have been doing all my life, maybe an education in a mechanical area would be best. I don't know. What do you guys think? Please give me some idea's so I can work toward my goal in the most effective way.

    Thanks a lot

  2. Hi,

I will be in Thailand October and would like to see the Naga fireballs. I know its October 14, but could actually end up being a day late. From what I understand the best place to see them is actually a ways down river from Nong Kai. I am not sure if that is correct. Also, I do not have a room reserved in the area. I am afraid they may be full by now. If anyone could give me more information on this event I would appreciate it a lot.

I am wondering if it would be possable to find a room in a town near by and be able to find transportation to the event. I am also wondering if it would be possable to see this from the Lao side of the river. Maybe stay in Vientiane. If so, any information I can get would help me figure out how to see this.

    Thanks

  3. Thanks guys,

Yes, I am in USA and I did  mean the 30 day stamp deal. I thought I would be ok with that but wanted to be sure I could do it a few times in about 20 days time. I will get my plane tickets Monday or Tuesday. Today I am trying to decide  how long to stay. I am off work 25 days. Mostly I need to worry about money. Hate to be hanging out in the Kingdom broke; hate to go home before I run out of money ;-)

    Thanks

  4. Hi,

I am planing on visiting Thailand in October. I want to stay a few days then go to Cambodia for 3 to 5 days. Then likely back to Thailand for a few more days. After that visit Myanmar 5 to 7 days. Then back to Thailand. Who knows, maybe even make it to Laos for a little bit. I was planning on getting the visa on arraval stamp each time I come back to Thailand. I think this would work ok, but I would like to ask to make sure. I would hate to end up not being allowed back in as my flight home will be from BKK. What do you guys think? Will I be ok?

    Thanks a lot

  5. Hi Guys,

If I show up in Thailand and want a bigger bike. Legal plates and all. About how much would I have to spend to buy one? As compaired to here in USA, an older bike 700cc or more that would cost between 800 and 4000 US. Could I buy some thing like that in Thailand and how would the prices compair? Here I have an 86 Yamaha 700 Maxim and a 2001 Yamaha Road star. Could I get some thing like that in Thailand and about how much.

                                                                     Thanks

                                                                        Jim

  6. Hi,

Good luck, I think its a good idea to bring some gifts. I would not spend a lot, but its always nice to get a present. If you really like the girl (and you must if since your going to see her) spend more on her. Get her some thing nice and for the rest of the family some thing cheap but nice will make them happy. Who knows what, you probably got some good ideas from this post. How about an IPod for the girl. My girl liked hers. I brought a lot of stupid little things like Magnets, or trinket things from my city. It was nice to be able to give them her friends or who ever.

Try to be yourself and do what you think is right. To many people have there own opinions that may be good for them, but there not you. You can find yourself being miss led or reading to much into things. Who know where this will lead. But no matter what, its a nice costum to bring a little gift, any one would appreciate that.

  7. Hi,

My girlfriend told me they like spicy food because it gives them more power for long days and hard work. Also more power for bed time. I think maybe its because they like the taste (me to).

  8. Thanks a log guys,

Your response has helped me a lot. I am sure I will try it on my own now. It did not realize that I could do the paper work here for her. I also did not realize that it would be so expensive for the change of status and work permit. One other question, about how long should I expect this to take once I start? I will probably ask some more questions once I get going on this.

    Thanks

    Jim

  9. Hi guys,

I want to start the process for the K1 visa for my girlfriend. I am trying to decide if we should use an imigration law firm for this, or just do it our selves. If it were just me I would do it my self. But I realize she will have to do most the stuff. I know a girl who got one and she said it was easy and not to use a law firm. Then I have read things on the interent that say its better to have help. I am sure getting married and moving her here will cost a lot of money. I dont have a bad job, but then I don't have a lot of exta money ether. So I don't really want to pay the extra for the law firm if its not really necesary. Any advice you guys can give me about any part of this K1 process will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  10. Ok,

Thanks a lot. I think I get it now. My hang up was that I read in my book that äÁéàÍ¡ means low tone, but now I see that it says with middle consonants. I had it in my mind it should always mean low. Lets see if I have this correct then. For now I should remember that the äÁéàÍ¡ means falling when with a low consonant. I am sure I will have some more questions for you guys. Thanks a lot.

  11. Hi Guys,

What is the best way to send money to a person in Thailand? Western Union cost to much. I am not in a hurry, could use regular mail. Just wondering what the best way is. I do not send money very often, but when I do I hate to give so much to Western Union. Must be a better way.

    Thanks

    Jim

  12. Hi,

I am wondering what the deal is with the 10 year tourest visa. I hope my Thai girlfriend can get a visa to visit the US this spring. I am just learning about this so I do not know that much. Do I understand this correctly? If she has the 10 year tourist visa and comes here, is it then up to the imagration officer upon arrival, to decide wether to let her in, and for how long? It just seems strange that it could not be done in advance. She would stay maybe 20 days. I would hate to have her fly here only to be turned away. Is that possable?

    Thanks
