My problems in january started also with a dry cough and also only at night. I tried some cough syrup and also antibiotics given by the pharmacist. It did not help. I could not sleep and I became very weak. I went to see a doctor after 2 weeks. He gave me another kind of antibiotics for two more weeks and it did not stop the cough either and I still felt very weak. He then gave me medicine for allergy and I had to take it for 4 weeks before it worked. So, as others said, I would tell you go to see a doctor as soon as possible. And I believe also it is related to pollution. I believe that here in Phuket they lie about the quality of the air to keep the tourists coming. I am a person in good health usually and this was really not normal.

No, it is not only the British Embassy. A friend of mine went to the Thai Embassy in Brussels last friday to get a retirement visa for his mother that wants to retire in Thailand. She has the 800 000 bahts in the bank but her pension was not enough for the 65000/month. The visa was refused because now in Brussels you need both (not one of the requirements, both!). My friend sent en email to the embassy to be sure this was not a mistake and he got a message back on his phone, saying ; yes, she need both proofs. The 800000 bahts is to be sure  she has money and the second of 65000bahts/month is to proove that she has a monthly income. The visa was refused! The Thai Embassy has always been very strict. And now this! 

Does being attacked with a knife in my house and being raped count? And I know personally two  women friend of me being also attacked, one in her house (also raped) and one on the road next to my house (she was lucky to escape)....

I had the same problem already with two laptops (I use always my laptop with charger plugged in) : one Dell, one Asus. I replaced the charger with an unversal charger and the problem was solved (no battery replacement). Hope it helps.

I phoned today to True to ask the question about TV5. The employee told me TV5 was out the air for 90 days during the celebrations (his own words). I said but the gouvernement said all channels are going back to normal programming since the 14 of November. He answered that they wait for the authorization...I hope your infos are right.

Same happened to me in the late 80ies on a flight HatYai-Narathiwat. I spent the flight discussing with the crew that wondered why a woman was traveling alone. And why go to Narthiwat... Very nice flight.

Here, in Phuket, I started to have disconnections every day at the same hour of the day. It started when they did the upgrade (I did not know about the upgrade at that time). The "technicians" from 3 BB came 3 times to my house. They did not speak about the upgrade, they said everything was ok, changed the splitter and after that told me that I should change my modem-router as from their side everything was working.....I still had the problem, but not every day. Today, I installed my new modem and everything is working, but maybe it would have been working with my old modem too.... The speed is very, very good. Ok, I learned that I must not believe what the "technicians" say...

I am new to this and not a geek.

I bought a Minix Android Box for IPTV. I would like to watch TV from internet (free for a start and for testing because I still have Truevision until June). I have a 3BB connection (15Mb..they say, but that gives only 1,8 to 2,2 Mb for streaming).

For the moment I use an add-on (upnup) and I get 409 chanels...A lot of them do not work at all, some work good and the rest works sometimes....This add-on is for UK, US channels and I get also a lot of South-american TV channels.

I searched the net and for european TV (french, belgian, swiss, dutch), I found only some IPTV providers that will only give add-ons if you buy their product (fair). I am sure there must be an add-on somewhere that can give me some channels for free...but I did not find yet. I am not in sports, I look for movie channels and news.

Another subquestion, if I try to use Netflix, it says it is not available in Thailand, but I read in some of the discussions here (don't know where any more) that some people can use it. How? With a IPaddress out of Thailand then?

I would like to know about that too, because from September (I am out of here for the summer), I will start to use IPTV only (tired from the recurring movies on True, I know them all by now).

My second question is about the internet speed. Is there a provider that gives better speed than 3BB here in Kamala?

Now, I am old, but all my life people asked how I dared as a woman alone to travel. European banks limited the max amount of withdrawal in Thailand. Now i can only get max 11000 baht out of the atm a day. This is as a precaution because there have been too much fraud from out of thailand.

I m waiting for the creditcard company's to follow this and i guess the Quality Tourists won't be happy with it so we will see how long this will last.

I contacted my bank in Belgium to be sure, and they told me they did not hear about such thing. Maybe you are speaking about the "Maestro" function of your bankcard. And that has been blocked since 2 or 3 years for Thailand. But with creditcards, no problem.

I did not read nothing about that. I am Belgian (and I am retired from a bank ) and do not know about that. I got 20000 bahts two days ago....I hope it was not the last time....

I had my creditcards blocked a few times due to a big fraud risk in the region Thailand-Malaysia, since I live here (that is like 5 times in 15 year) and every time my bank sent me a new card. It takes not more than a week with DHL, but of course you do not know in advance when they block as they write to your home address and most of the time the mail comes after you have your new card already .

Maybe my bank unblocked my cards automatically because I go back every summer and they know I am living in Thailand 9 months a year...but they did not tell me (every summer I am in contact with my bank). And if that is the case I will have to thank and congratulate my banker....

But I noticed that my overall limit has been put to 2500 euros per month and it was 5000 and 6500 last year. So, that must be for security reasons.

This will go on and even become worse as long as they do not punish more severely for rape and attempting rape. And this is not only about Thailand. Every woman that is attacked should report (like this one did).
