  1. Dear All,

1st of all needless to say that i am getting mad really mad with the purchase i

made 1 year ago. I bought a philips plasma tv 127c wide at the horrific cost

of abt 3'900usd and recently purchased the ps3 and to my great astonishment

there is no HDMI connector on this tv only DVI so i have today purchased an

hibrid cable called HDMI/DVI so i can connect the ps3 to the tv now that

i can finally see an hd movie using the bluy ray player incorporated in the ps3

but on my screen either when i watch an hd movie or playing a game i have

multiple red points moving around on the screen but this does not happen

when i watch the television. I had this problem before also when i was playing

with the xbox 360 (which i sold to buy the ps3) i am thinking that maybe it is

only a cable problem or worst i dont know, PLSE HELP is there anything that

    can be done.

    With regards

  2. Thanks Pumpuiman for the valuable info.

I notice that you are still a young lad, when do you intend to move permanently in LOS

As for my self i am 35 and intend to work 3-5 more years in Switzerland then move there

and hopefully make a living out the farm (Fruits and Vegetables or anything with a good yield

and profit). I do not intend to become

rich but simply being able to raise a familly of 2 children and maybe 1 more in the near future as

well as supporting my future wife's family a bit. But i do hope to be able to make enough money

to be able once in a while to return in Switzerland to see some relatives and still have a confortable

life in LOS meaning being able to travel around Thailand and SE Asia with my wife and kids.

I am also simply tired of the working office environment eventhough i am making quite a lot of money

but it does not matter to me anylonger.

I will be travelling around Surin early April and hope to meet some farang doing farming there

in order to acquire more experiences from them and share a few beers.

Where is Pimai located and are you going to be around the area during this time ?

May i add you on my friend list ?

    Have a good day

    Tato

    Tato,

Pimai is about 30-45 miutes drive north-north-east of Korat. You may find it on a map as "Phimai".

I am able to take several months a year off from work....and in the future hopefully as many as 8 months.

I dont intend to live full time for 10-15 years, but will be there often.

Also, my father in law has trouble climbing stairs...and it was very painful for him to climb up to his Thai style house on stilts.....so we added a bedroom for him downstairs, and also a shower, so the house will be lived in when I'm not there.

Feel free to put me on your friends list!!

I hope we can get together....my travel plans at present are uncertain due to an impending back surgery, but I'm hoping to recover in my new home!!

As far as other posts concerning square meters...here are the original plans just click #11 for my plans...and add a small bedroom at the back off the kitchen.(just square off the rest of the left side of the house with the back....had to re-locate septic)

The wall cost per meter...I never figured it....not sure of the length, sorry.

    Eric

    Hello Eric,

Lucky you, i wish being able too taking so much days off during a year :o

I sincerly hope that you will feel better with your back, i know the feeling myself

too, frome time to time it happens that just by carrying something not that heavy

or simply doing some house cleaning, helping my wife a bit :D my back is blocked.

50-55 years old before moving permanently there, well dont think i can make it,

much too cold here with lots of people judging before knowing. Therefore saving

as much as i can and take my poor punsion fund before its too late, meaning nothing

left in the state social funds when reaching the age of retirement. :D and

i am still finguring out how we could manage to make a standard living there.

Maybe building a guest house with pool, karaoke, big tv screen for int'l soccer

championship, restaurant & BBQ corner. We have time my wife and i to think

about that while travelling around Isaan to find exactly where to do.

I will certainly drop you a line before moving there for holiday early April and

    looking forward meeting you.

Funny but actually the plan you have reffered to are the one i have seen before

on their website and the house you built is the one that pleased me (the

number 11 or 12 i think) and i was not sure whether it would be a good

investment, I MUST ADMIT I CHANGE MY MIND

  3. Would it be possible for you to provide us with the contract? I would like to see how you have things broken down in stages. After seeing your house, my girl wants one (instead of one a little more expensive) so your experience may have saved me some money.

Also, please PM me the contact details for your builder. Thanks

    Ski....

    I shall.

If anyone wants his #.....PM me

    Hi Pumpuiman,

I would be very interested to get a copy of the contract as well, we intend to build one new house

and would be nice to see how the contract was drafted.

    Thanks for your kind support

    With my B.Rgds

    Tato

  4. To those who have PM'd me for the contractor's contact details.....I promise to get back to you.....The wife wants to ask his permission first (and I dont feel like arguing about it :o )

He has been away for a couple of days. I will be sure to get back to you as soon as I hear something.

    Sorry for the delay,

    Eric

    Hello Pumpuiman,

My wife and i would also be interested to get your contractor contact details

many thanks in advance for your kind cooperation

  5. Hi Dave,

Well my wife and i are considering settling down there in 3-5

    years time from now.

We would like to build a new guest house (15-20 rooms) with a pool, 1 restaurant,

1 karaoke. The karaoke will also be used for watching int'l soccer championship.

U said that indian food is hard to find there, that's a pitty coz its one of my

favorite food too. We will certainly include this type of food in the menu.

I also love to organize special BBQ once in a while.

Are they live jazz band pub in town ?

I heard that Surin is a passage point for travellers/backpakers headed

toward Cambodia, is that true ?

Is The Chang festival the only cultural evenement ?

Lampard is mentioning that Surin is attracting more and more industries around

guess then that the future of the area is quite promising.

You intend to settle down there soon are you going to work there

or simply a retirement life. I will be in Surin early April we could meet and i

would invite you for a beer or two.

    Best regards

    Tato

  6. Dear Members,

Are there many Farang on this forum leaving in Surin or nearby.

I am interested to know the opinion of those people living there about

what they would think to be needed there. Such as what type of food is

not found, is there any karaoke, bluzz &jazz bar if any, how many guest

houses are available, are they many of them fitted with swimming pool.

Is there a permanent flow of tourist going in this area, i suppose that

being the elephant town of Thailand as well as a passing point for

going into Cambodgia i would think yes.

Your ideas and opinions are most welcome.

Wishing all of you an happy, healthy and prosperous new year.

  8. My fiancee and myself are considering buying 30 up to 40 rai near Surin area,

about 10-15km away from center town.

We would like to build a house there on this land lot as well as farming the

    rest of the land.

What price shall we espect in this area always bearing in mind that we must be

located on a land with full electricity and water supply ?

Plse also indicate whether adsl internet connection are available in this area

Many thanks for your usefull advise

  9. Hello Pumpuiman,

It is a charming house, well done. May i ask you how much did it costs and on how many rai

    is the house built ?

I am still looking around Surin to find a nice place with water and electricity access to build a house

with about 20-30 rai next to it for the farm we and my fiancee are dreaming off.

With my best regards to you and your familly and all the best wishes for a happy, healthy and

    prosperous new year.

    Tato

  10. Dear Tim,

First of al i am wishing you and your families an happy, healthy and

    prosperous new year 2007

Your post are all excellent and i have printed them all out for future reference.

I am a Swiss guy married with a nice and charming Thai wife and intend to settle

down in Thailand within the next 2-3 years. We are considering buying between 20-40 rai

and still wondering what to do with it. My first thought was growing Palm trees but then

we would need a much bigger piece of land and put maybe too much money for the next 3-5

years without having any income from the trees but quite a big amount of money to take

care of the land / tress while they are growing.

Reading at your post it appears that Makua business would be a better choice, understand that

you have 20 rai north of Kon Ken but are you only growing Makua for a living ?

May i ask you what is your monthly running costs for growing 20 rai of Makua ? What is your

    approximate net monthly revenu ?

Do you know the land price around your area 1) not near land or water facilities 2) near road

    with water supply ?

    Many thanks for your advise,

    B.rgds

    Tato

    CNXPAT

Hers another option to discuss this with your other half - "Makua", those small hard green tomatoes you see in Thai soups and other dishes.

If you do it properly they will take 3 months to start producing and from 3 or 4 rai you'll be able to pick daily and generate around Baht 1000 - 2000 per day - yup, you pick them daily.

The Thai's love them (i.e. you will have no problems selling them at any market).

They're a tough hardy plant which are easy to grow (if done carefully are a commericaly vaiable - I have 21 rai) and will be a cheap introduction to farming, rom which you can easily get out of without lossing anything, should you change your mind or circumstances change.

Discuss it with your other half, and if the idea sounds good I'll fill you in on the fine detail.

It will get you out of bed early every morning ... they are best picked at dawn when still full of moisture.

    Tim

  11. It depends.

If you have alot of cash lying around, doing palm or rubber is better than

having the money in the bank.

(Never borrow money to do this)

If you came and bought the land like 10-15 years ago, it was actually quite

    a good investment.

I calculate that I got my whole investment back in about 5 years, back then.

Today I guess it'll take between 20-30 years, cause of the high land prices

    and maintenance costs,(fertilizer etc).

10 years ago the oil palm price was exactly the same as it is today !

Most Thais don't seem to realize this, but what it means is, that the price has actually decreased over the years.

    Dear Friend,

Do you have an oil palm tree plantation yourself ??? if yes where about

    in Thailand

In your view what would be the running costs for such a size about 80-100 rai

    Thanks and happy new year

    Tato

  12. My wife and i are considering buying 50 to 80 rai near Surin and

    start growing oil palm trees

Reading your post it seems that the dragon fruit would be an easier farming

    business compare to palm.

What is your operating costs for 5 rai with 700'000 baht per year

    in gross revenue ??????

    With regards

    Tato

  13. Dear All,

My Thai wife and myself are planning to grow a palm tree plantation near Surin

and would like as much advise as you can provide. The intention is to purchase

100 rai to start with (ideally in 1, 2 or 3 lot max provided not far from each other)

    1) I think that first we must be very carefull with the type of land we want to purchase

(holding title paper) as well as the composition of the soil (deep, flat with good draining

properties and with good nutritional properties for the tress. TELL ME IF I AM MISSING

SOMETHING ABOUT THE SOIL). We would like her parents (who are rice farmers) to look

after the growing trees while we stay in Europe for the next 3 years (this is the time when

the tress will be giving their first fruits for oil extraction)

    2) Is it possible to buy palm oil trees already 6 months old and at what unit costs and where.

( i have calculated that about 3'200 trees will be needed for a 100 rai plantation is

    that right ? )

    3) We must make sure that there will be a oil processing facilities not to far from the plantation in

order to minimize most probably the truck rental costs ( i understand that there is 1 palm oil

refinery near Surin, correct me if i am wrong)

    4) In your opinion how many daily workers (including the father of my wife who will be the supervisor)

will be needed to take care of the plantation while the trees are growing and how much will be the

monthly pay roll for the workers.

    5) the yield is about 4-5 tons per 6 rai every year but how much can we get from the oil processing

facilities if they do the extraction themself after we only bring them the fruits ?

6 ) Does anyone already involved in such business and where ?

    Your expertise is most welcome,

with my best regards and best wishes for the new year.
