  1. Based on your inane remark, I bet you never struggled with the addictions of nicotine...

That is quite right, I am not addicted to nicotine or any other health harming substance for that matter. In fact I had the good common sense when I was a child not to experiment with such things.

My comment, which seems to have angered you, came as a direct flow on from the heading posted in Peters' opening post: "SMOKING IS THE BIGGEST PREVENTABLE KILLER."

The all important word being "Preventable."

Kids who are contemplating taking up the smoking habit need to have their heads kicked to knock some sense into them. Their smoking parents need to take some sort of influencing role in deterring their children from taking up a killer habit....and not necessarily 'smoking parents' but ALL parents.

Smokers who express enjoyment of smoking whilst partaking in this killer habit, particularly when such expressions are made in front of kids, need to take some responsibility for (inactively) encouraging others to take up the habit.

For you smokers who are addicted to nicotine and are trying to quit, you have my support but not my sympathy.

You have no one to blame but yourselves for your predicament.

I have made comment before in the Smoking Forum that the best and quickest way to stop smoking is to go cold turkey and have the intestinal fortitude to fight through to the end.

So Mr Warrior, you won't quit the habit by blaming the likes of me. Your fight is with yourself, the nicotine addiction and the advertising campaign from the tobacco companies, not with me.

.....and finally, my comment in my previous post, which has infuriated you, was not meant to be funny.

Read Allen Carrs book. The Only Way To Stop Smoking Permantely.

I was a 30 cigarette smoker a day. I read this book from cover to cover and found it interesting. After finishing this book I followed the instructions. I am now an ex smoker and have been for the past 3 weeks. No withdrawl symtoms or any others. No cravings. No tempations. This book can be downloaded from the net

  4. I applied for a Non-Immigrant Visa O Multipule Journey in Australia and it was issued on 17th July 2006. I was due to do my first visa run in October 2006. I went to Jomtien Immigration prior to my date for visa run and was issued with a Retirement Visa valid until 20th July 2007. My income was based on 65,000 baht requirement. I have to leave Thailand (7th April 2007) and return to Australia for family reasons and hope to be back in 3-6 months. If I am back before the 20 July 2007 then all I have to do is apply for an extension of stay. My question is what happens when I decide to come back after this date :o:D

  5. I am returning to Australia on the 7th April for 3-6 months and need translation of Thai address in Bangkok to English.

You can PM me with your phone number and I will contact you and talk to my Thai GF and then to me for translation.

This info is needed on bank details to transfer funds from Australia to Thailand.

    Thanking you in anticipation.

    Grant :o

  6. Could anyone tell me about Rayong ? I am coming over this summer to stay. I have stayed in Pattaya and Jomtien, and would like it a little more less in your face and cheaper. I have a Thai lady who is going to stay with me. I am going to look at Hua Hin, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen. I was thinking of Rayong because of the

ocean and beach. I make $2,200 USD a month on my retirement. With the exchange rate I hope that will be

enough to live good. I don't drink, or smoke.

I would like a place where there is an expat community. Any info, or suggestions, you could give me would

    be most appreciated.

    Thanks

    whittler/ aka Mike

    Hi Mike,

I have land and a Condo in Rayong on Hat Mae Rampueng beach.

The beach is about 12km's long and is clean enough.

It is very quiet but extremely relaxing, I loved it as a get away, as you do not drink this would be a benefit, because there really isn't a lot to do in this part of Rayong.

The plus part it is only 10 mins from Ban Phe where you can get across to Ko Samet, which again is very nice and quiet.

15 mins from Rayong Town which is a bustling little place.

Ex-Pat community, well its growing but pretty much scattered, there is a couple of villages! springing up, but they appear to be Swedish and other Europeans, I met one American and one Canadian whilst in this area but I am sure there are others.

If you would like to know more about this area, I know a decent enough Hotel, a good guest house and a good taxi driver that can get you about safely.

As for your money, you wont know how to spend it here, I spent less here in two weeks in December than a couple of days in Bangkok or Pattaya.

If you want further info let me know.

    Good Luck

    Moss

I have checked this place out MaeRampueng. There is a New Zealander (Peter) there who runs the Maerampueng Guest House. Has been there now for 8 months. He is very helpful and easy to talk to. 3 bedroom townhose, fully furnished 6000 baht off season, 8000 baht high seasons. Small condo 4000 baht. 20 baht for transport to Rayong by baht bus every hour. The only drawback with this area is that it gets busy on the weekends as many Thais from Bangkok come there.

The beach area is very clean and tree lined (20 metres). At low tide the sand beach is approx 35 metres wide.

The temperature has to be 5-8 degrees less than Pattaya-Nakula area due to the breeze.

  7. YOu have to wonder how often buses do catch fire without being reported, there was one yesterday on the expressway. Not sure of the company but it was blue and white.

I guess the blue and white bus was the ones that run from Pattaya to Ekami Bangkok. I have travelled this service regulary over the past 9 months.

On the 20th this month my GF and myself caught a bus with this company to Bangkok. 30 minutes into the trip the airconditioning system failed. The driver pulled up under an overpass bridge, ie in the shade, and used his mobile to call for a replacement. The replacement bus arrived 40 minutes later.

Now this driver cared for his passengers!!

Did his loss his job for these actions!! :o

  8. I live in the Pattaya area and am due soon to return to Brisbane, Australia. I have approx 2 cubic metre of furniture, electrical goods and clothing to send.

Can anybody point me in the right direction as to who is available in the Pattaya area?

    Thanx :D:o

  9. I live in the Pattaya area and am due soon to return to Brisbane, Australia. I have approx 2 cubic metre of furniture, electrical goods and clothing to send.

Can anybody point me in the right direction as to who is available in the Pattaya area?

I have been quoted one figure of 18,100 Baht for 2 cubic metres. I think this is rather high.

    Thanx

  10. I am about to leave this wonderful country, Thailand to relocate back to Brisbane, Australia due to family committments. I am truly sad that I have had to make this descision!

I have a dining room table plus four chairs, a sofa settee and miscellaneous electrical appliances. The total of all the things that I require to send would total approx 2 cubic metres.

Can anyone advise as to the best way to send these items to Australia?

I am currently in the Naklua (Pattaya) area, Chonburi.

    In anticiipation

  11. There are two probable scenarios to this tragic event as I see it.

1). This was the work of criminal elements.

2). It was the reaction of a national of Thailand who lost face.

If it was scenario #1 then all law abiding citizens, residents and tourists have not to much to worry about.

If it was scenario #2 then we all must tread softly on the ground.

My deepest sympathy to the families and friends of these two human beings.

My the Kingdom of Heaven hold you close and your names be written in diamonds in the sky.

"If it was scenario #1 then all law abiding citizens, residents and tourists have not to much to worry about."

    Why would this be?

Are you assuming that the girls were also criminal elements to reach this conclusion ie it was only those involved in nefarious activities that were hurt?

What about if it was the work of criminal elements and the girls were total innocents?

Your logic tree is not complete!

Read the words not between the lines as you see it

    And #2
