  1. Hi Bina thanks for the detailed reply … much appreciated!

That's interesting , I already follow both those guys on Facebook and had sent the young guy a message thru the Etheng site but got no response.

He seems like the best though, I love the look of his instruments. I will chase him up using your contact details.

I have never played a phin other than a cheap one in a market. I have been a pro musician on guitar and keys and I reckon it would be fun to try and master the phin.

  2. Hi all. I'm on a little driving trip around Issan. Currently in Mukdahan and heading to Surin next. I'm looking for a good quality electric pinh. Does anyone know of a decent shop anywhere in the region that sells quality instruments?

Cheers in advance for any help.

  3. I'm surprised I never did a follow up to all this - all my opinions changed!

Bangkok Dental Hospital turned out to be awful - a senior bitch dentist there suggested it would be easier to pull out three of my teeth rather than work on them. What kind of dentist in this day and age suggests pulling teeth?! That is the absolute last resort. 2 of them were healthy teeth!

I was so flabbergasted at her dreadful, unprofessional and bitchy attitude, that I left and never returned.

That would be the "senior bitch" on the fourth floor right .. room 404? She is a nightmare .. always trying to tell you your teeth are ruined and you need crowns or implants. She's tried this on me a couple of times and I called her out on my last visit and she wasn't happy about it. Apart from her I find the place great, although they have increased the prices massively over the five years I have been going there.

  4. Interesting project.

I wonder if anyone would know. Where in Isaan would be considered the centre of Morlam music? Are there studios in Isaan or is the recorded music all produced in Bangkok?

  5. Hi everyone.

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have been doing my homework on this and have also been down to the immigration office at Chiang Mai but didn't get much help from the kids behind the counter who just gave me the photocopied page of requirements which doesn't answer my specific question. (It was a busy day there)

I am on a tourist visa. I have 22 days left on my permitted 60 days. I want to convert my tourist visa to a non imm O visa for the purposes of retirement. I understand that first I have to convert my visa type which will get me a 90 day non imm O visa which I can then later extend for a year. I have the required 800,000 baht in the bank but it has not been in there for the full two months yet. If I have to wait for that, then I will have to extend my tourist visa for a further 30 days … obviously costing me another 1900 baht.

Do I have to wait for the money to be in the bank for two months before converting my visa or is that only necessary for when I apply for the one year extension?

If anyone has a definitive answer on that I would be most grateful!

  6. icare in Kad Suan Kaew is pretty much it for Chiang Mai unfortunately. They fix stuff under applecare alright but don't seem to carry any replacement parts, so they have to order everything in from Singapore. Frustrating I know.

  7. There is a hairdressers/barbers supply shop very close to Riders Corner on the inner moat road. I am sure they have both good electric clippers and some great scissors too.

The last time I was there I saw Wahl brand which I think are one of the better if not best and most reliable brands

Go for those ... I'm still using Wahl clippers I bought in 1983. I need clipper oil though, I must check this place out to see if they sell it there.

I've seen clippers for sale at the back of Pantip plaza at the store in the far right corner on the ground floor also.
