  1. Some new informations about the Foreign Business Act and the amendment voted by the NLA in august.

By the way, the process was not "stopped". But only delayed. Some people inside the gvt still believe -and hope- that the law will be voted before the elections.

An official document explains (published by the Department of Business Developement of the Commerce Ministry PDF file) exactly what the NLA added in august. It's even worse that we've heard before.

"The National Legislative Assembly (NLA), at meeting on 8 August 2007, agreed as follows.

    1. Agreed on definition "foreigners" by extending the clauses containing 2 following contents:

1.1 An inclusion of power to name or dismiss the majority of directors and direct the firm's action as the criteria.

1.2 An inclusion of chain shareholding or multi tier holding company as the criteria."

So actually, they added 2 new criterias to define if a company is "foreign" or not : management control (+ control of the board) and the issue of chain shareholdings...

The 2 other criterias remain the same : % of shares, and % of voting rights.

So what does this basically mean for people that have property under the company route?

  2. Ive just sold my house and want to transfer the money from the sale to my Bank in the UK, Ive heard its quite difficult, what are my options if any?

changing into cash pounds and buy GBP traveller cheques is the safest way.

Thanks for the info, are there any other options?

  3. Im just thinking about getting new car and quite fancy the fortuna 3.0D. I havnt owned a diesel for years because basically the car I had put me off diesels, (noisey slow), but I hear deisel cars have move on alot. Im going to have a test drive before deciding but I wouldnt mind some general feedback from any owners out there, pluses and minuses plus answers to some of the queries below.

How many Kms from a full tank, Kms per Ltr ?

    What the handling you like?

Are they noisey when there first started?

What the speed like, are they sluggish to start? whats the top end speed?

    How much is the servicing?

Any thoughts and feedback is much appreciated

  4. A couple of people have had a few problems, one guy had his house broken into during the day, hed just gone to the shop and when he got back half his electrical goods had gone. Someone else I know got broken into 3 times. They reckon its because its a little far from the city with very few street lights. They got a bit fedup with it and have sold up and moved closer to the city. Saying that there seems to be more houses going up there, maybe it will help or maybe make it worst.

  5. I was wandering how the real estate market is going in HH, and am keen to get a view from people that are living there, have bought or are currently trying sell.

    Are properties selling well?

Are prices going up or down?

Are you trying to sell, how longs it been on the market?

Thanks in adavance for any information.

  6. Im not sure if Id call it a household budget or an allowance, but my wife and I had a long chat, along these lines

she hates asking me for money for every little thing, plus I dont like having to watch the pennies all the time.so I happliy agreed to give her a lump of cash once a month, out of that she pays all the household bills, food shopping cloths etc, if theres anything left its up to her what she does with it. Its worked out well so far, I get bread and water for dinner breakfast and tea, she gets to buy new cloths whenever she feels like it, jokes apart, it does work out well, id hate to be in the position where Id have to ask for cash everytime I wanted something, plus she feels better ,from a trust and self estemmmme point of view.

But all things said, I would question the relationship if I was given an ultimatium like in your case OP. plus bear in mind if you do decide to give her money it is likely all to be spent, so I only give what I can afford.

  7. Since the rain started pouring, I have got thousands of little bugs in the pool, there fairly small and look like they have little wings there using to swim around with, i keep scooping them out, but the following morning there back in there hundreds. My maid says they get them allot on the rice farms. I thought that Shock would kill them off, but not so far.

Does anyone know what they are and how to get rid off them. Thanks

  8. Good for you. My Thai and I would be doing likewise if I wasn't so aged and likely dead when my child would be in high school.

My Thai fathered my grandchild for a year in Australia last year and showed a unique talent for it. We were much sought after by my daughter to "baby sit", if half day of care giving every day fits that description.

She has a Nanny now for the times we served in that capacity, as she works in a big job.

Gender has nothing to do with care giving and loving of children and it is a given that those who think two males or two females can't be good parents due to their same sex gender will go the way of the dinosaurs in a generation or so.

Granted, community attitudes can affect children adversely, but usually to those not prepared by their parents for the bigotry. Bigotry takes on many forms including ethnicity, economic strata and educational level of the parents, but there are remedies to minimize the effect of bigotry on children and certainly such adversities, like any adversity, should not be allowed to operate to prevent such parenting, and it rarely does.

Hi ProThaiExpat, thanks for your comments..judging by the parents at our sons' school I would say we are either the same or maybe younger than some of them!I am 36 and my TBF is 43.

I think we have been very, very lucky in terms of the way we have been treated by other parents and pre/schools here. We have had nothing but support from them and he has been and is presently in one of the top international schools in BKK (the fees hurt mind you!)

Hopefully putting this out there will encourage others who have the desire to have a family to go ahead and do it...our experience has been positive on almost every level (financial and energy being the exeptions!!!)

Take care and thanks for the reply! :o

sorry to go off topic, I just wanted to ask if you mind telling me a little more about the school your child goes to , the name and cost, plus your feeling on the quality of education.

  9. Simbo, any updates? Are you still slimming?

Yes. I'm still taking them. On my second months supply now and still losing weight.

The great thing about them is, one doesn't feel hungry all the time. Of course, one has to eat, but one gets satisfied after a small amount I find I dont eat at all between breakfast and dinner at around 5pm. Then I only eat a small amount.

My problem is, I like a drink. I haven't changed this habit, so the weight will come off slower. I'm treating it as long term project. I've been on crash diets before, but put the weight back on as soon as I stopped.

The only side effect I am experiencing, is increased vigour in all things. :o

is it easy to get hold off over here?regards

  10. well,

as i am german and dont know how to explain in in english properly, i looked it up for you.

"The right to use and enjoy the profits and advantages of something belonging to another as long as the property is not damaged or altered in any way."

The advantage of this is that the usufruct is valid for a life time, not like a lease agreement ( 30 years)

    hope that helps.

    regards

    Timo

Thanks Timo, learnt somethig new today, regards

  11. Hello,

i am just in the process of buying a house, not being married myself. We use sunbelt asia, to have an usufruct registered on the chanote(landpaper). There is no disandvantage of being not married, at least thats how i understand the lawyers from sunbelt, as if married you would have to sign that the property is not part of the marriage deal, anyways. If you get married anytime after you bought the property, your wife only has to goe change the chanote and the land office.

I reccomend you to see a good law firm about the usufruct process anyways.

    best regards

    Timo

Sorry dumb question, whata a usufruct?

  12. If you mean the ugly critters I think you do, the locals here assure me they are very poisonous, and that while their sting won't kill a human, you'll wish it had..................!!

Gotta be my most feared critter here in Thailand. Everybody tells me the bite is more painful than a scorpion and most snakes. Don't mess with them unless it's to remove the head!! Here's a pic.

    rgds

seen lots of these fellas, generally are they aggressive or just tend to run away from you like most things? also what the cure if bitten? Ive got a small baby so want to be prepared just in case.

  13. Most of the stuff you see at the water line is residue from body wastes and the salts that are the result of evaporation. It can be hard to clean especially in vinyl pools as the vinyl gets brittle with strong chemicals.

A dilute mixture of an alkaline cleaner can help, use a domestic scourer (Plastic not stainles :o ) and a lot of elbow grease.

One way of preventing the 'scum line" is to use a surficant type algecide, one that uses benzachonium chloride (spelling ?). Apart from reducing the algae it helps keep the cleaning to a minimum, and one other side benifit is that it reduces the time ducks and water birds spend in the pool. The surficant action makes the birds feel as though they are sinking so they move on. It does not harm th birds.

Thanks phang_paarp, do you know where I can buy some of the Algecide and is there a specific name for it?Ive been cleaning the pool all day and its still not right(pain in the butt) so thanks for the advice.
